When pulling out a nail, sometimes you want more leverage, or if the nail is very long. Place a piece of wood under the head of the hammer as that is the fulcrum when pulling the nail.
We actually shot footage of doing just that, but it didn't make the cut - thanks for mentioning the tip!!
I love your terrible jokes.
Xyla, thanks so much I'm updating my safety videos for my students. I'm going to add this to our Google Classroom. Wish you were still in this area.
Excellent video. May I add between @1.45-2.00, keep the shoulder still, drop from the elbow and allow the hammer to fall from the wrist just as your about to strike the nail (on larger nails). Smaller pin nail, technique looks fine. Keep up the good work.
Another is for small finish nail, you might not want the hammer marks on the wood, use a nailset, nail punch for the last 1/4 or 1/8 inch. The smaller nail was a finishing nail.
Thanks for the video series. I come across so many people that jave no idea how to use basic tools. I send them to UA-cam and most of the time come across your videos. Thank you for what you do.
One of the first safety things I was taught when on an engineering apprenticeship was that you should never hit the faces of two hammers together. Why anyone would do that is beyond me but I guess someone must have done it once or they wouldn't feel the need to mention it!

one more thing about hammer.
if you'll be constantly using it, try getting one that has a vibration dampen feature designed into it.
it helps to relief stress on your wrist and arm on prolong usage.
Where are your safety glasses???
The channel never mentioned "Beauty and the Bolt with brains".
Anyone who doesn't want a horrible eye injury!

That's your choice, but for a channel that purports to be instructing people in how to use various tools they should be recommending and demonstrating "best practices".
First time in my life that I'm hearing about wearing safety glasses when handling a hammer. I mean it makes sense if you are handling one all day every day that eventually your hammer is going to fail, but then if you are in that position you wouldn't go watch a how to video on UA-cam.
Huh. A pretty and witty female host that also happens to be good at explaining things in an easily understandable way. Generally pretty good production value with well-lit sets. Interesting spread of content, from basic stuff like this (which is a vital point of entry for a lot of people) to much more complex things. Why does this channel only have
Which one of you two is the "BOLT" ?
Thanks
Wayne
Xyla insists Andrew is the Beauty and Xyla is the Bolt. Andrew doesn't disagree.
LETS GET HAMMERED YEEEAA!!!!
It's printed on the side of the hammer to use safty glasses
Ahem!(raises hand) 'xcuse me ma'am! ...... using your thumb and fore-finger is not safe..... look at your palm in the hand you hold your nail in....place the nail with the head facing you between your fore-finger and middle finger (you should be seeing the inside of your hand and the head of the nail). Not only is this much safer but you can now use your other two fingers and your thumb to hold more nails while hammering. You will find it much more efficient and safer. It's an old roofer's trick. It works real well with those tiny nails. Enjoy!
Nailed it! :-)
If it _wasn't_ such a family friendly channel, I presume, you would have started the video with "Let's bang"? 😁
I use a nail gun.
Pretty girl ppe. All the time
You are very beautiful
Good job, I wanna see you nail it with no editing lol
Marry me xoxoxo
