I've fact-checked the media a couple weeks ago on the coronavirus headlines, now its time for me to keep the politicians honest. From Joe Biden to President Trump there has been misinformation being shared by our politicians. Here are a few examples as well as my take on ending social-distancing.

I don't blame him. The insanity of how this should not be happening, and is only happening due to sloth and greed, is infuriating to anyone who's paying attention.
We should have had a bulk supply in emergency storage : but it costs too much money to do that

It's the president's job to not instill panic. If Trump, Obama, Clintno, or whoever was blunt and truthful about it, the country will turn into mass chaos. As sad as it is, people are not smart and will over react to everything. The president is in a position where he has to show the population the grim reality of whats going on, but at the same time, not have the population go into a huge panic where they flood hospitals and horde toilet paper

I see a specialist for PTSD and I was telling her about this channel and "alert not anxious" and she asked me to write the channel name down for her because she's going to recommend it to other patients who are having a lot of COVID19 related anxiety. She was so excited for an evidence based easy to understand resource she could share. Thank you Doctor Mike.

Telling people to be alert and not anxious is very inconsiderate, IMO. It can make people feel like their anxiety isn’t valid or they’re overreacting, even when they aren’t. So all of the victims of COVID-19 and their families just shouldn’t be anxious? They literally have the possibility of dying or loosing someone they love, and even if they survive it, the virus can be hell to live through. If that’s not a legitimate scenario for anxiety, then I don’t know what is.
Dr. Mike is just completely ignoring all of the individuals and their families who already have the virus when he says to be alert and not anxious.
I know he has good intentions, but this whole series of videos just has an air of being more about shutting down fear-mongering by the media than it is about the actual welfare of the public. Yes, the media and politicians shouldn’t fear monger, but sometimes, as in this case, the fear is warranted.

Berk Sarioz dr mike was making accusations which later turned out wrong. The drug advocated by President Trump has been saving lives.This was a political statement.

Unfortunately, I don’t dislike facts, I dislike the effect that social distancing has on my mental health because I literally have gotten to the point to where I’ve just become mentally unstable with frequent panic attacks
Luna thegamer Talk to friends online, if you have a garden you can go there when your neighbours aren’t, do things inside that make you happier. It’s hard to stay inside for most people and I’ve been inside for over a month now but you’ve got to improvise and stay inside to the best of your ability. I’m not sure if this applies everywhere but where I live you can leave your house for exercise. MOST IMPORTANTLY have a schedule or a routine to stick to. This is crucial to staying sane in a situation like this where you can’t live as normal. If you have something to do and when you will do it whether it be exercise or hobbies and you plan it all out, it can help maintain your sanity and mental health.
Yoon - Moon That’s the problem, I’ve tried talking to my friends and boyfriend online and my boyfriend has noticed that it’s literally made my mental health worse than when I’m unable to see him, not to mention, I’m at my grandma’s house to avoid getting sick from my dad ignoring social distancing rules
The ceo of the company I work at said this in a meeting this week about the possibility of Americans being sent back to work early really stuck with me

I am enraged by the amount of misinformation on social media.
People believe all these crazy conspiracy theories because they are anxious in this current time. When people have little sense of control over events they can feel powerless and seek meaning in the situation. However, each of us has a choice of how we respond to current events. Accepting the situation is unprecedented and reviewing things in a sensible way to each find our best coping strategies going forward.

I can’t believe so many ppl are still so uninformed but it’s really great to finally come across a popular professional creator that is actually trying to help people and not manipulate them. Honestly he came up in my recommended a lot but I kept skipping his videos because of the amount of subs and views they got I figured it was mainstream opinion garbage. But I was pleasantly surprised, it’s very refreshing and also very much needed when it’s about such important information. I appreciate how he drags different politicians and media outlets from all sides while staying unbiased and not stating his own opinion as if it’s fact. I’m surprised he’s been on the news and on tv and still holds his own views. They both consumed a form of hydroxychloroquine, one form is a aquarium cleaner the other is a malaria drug. Common sense says the drug is what was being put out there as a possible benefit not an aquarium cleaner however some people don't contain common sense or the ability to research.

Dr. Mike, my wife is a general surgeon who is also "on the front lines" of this virus, and let me tell you, she hears so many lies and misconceptions from her patients about the situation with the virus it's not even funny. It might be an additional burden on her, but perhaps you two could do a quick round-up of what she's heard and you could debunk them. It could possibly save lives right now (see: misinformed man kills himself by drinking chloroquine). As a front-line doc, I assume she has no time, but if she could relay the basics to you and then you could put them out, that would be a great service to those that are very nervous and hunger for *any* sort of information right now (that is, assuming you have any spare time). Just a thought!
Combating misinformation is not nearly enough. Having a vision of the path through this wilderness, which is not only medical but economic, is crucial. Dr. Mike understands that but does not have the clear view of how to get through this without running out of money to keep up the effort. We need politicians who can relieve the panic as much as we need doctors who can relieve the infection. I think we all understand that if a rumor of a disease that didn't even really exist started in just the wrong way it would devastate the industrial world.

You can feel the frustration and passion in Mike's tone in this video that he's never had before. It's clear he realizes this may be the most important period of his medical entire career. Thank you Dr. Mike. As a high school history teacher, who feels like I've been screaming to an endless void trying to stop the misinformation and lessen the conspiratory talks; watching your videos have brought me solace. I'm just so disappointed in the spread of lies and misinformation, I'm sure that's not benefitting my mental health. If you happen to make a video on tips how to stay healthy during pandemic, perhaps a break from social media is recommended. It's so hard to put the phone down though.

@@markallen8027 Here's the thing, he repeated himself dozens of times, across multiple interviews/press conferences/platforms and doubled down on the comment multiple times, spewing inaccuracies while he did it. This wasn't an idle comment. Pretending like it was is dishonest. And even if, hypothetically, you are honestly that poor at contextual analysis, that you honestly cannot understand that when the president discusses radically altering policy because of colored bubble wishful thinking, even as a hypothetical, that action causes chaos, anger and confusion... It's still a monumentally ignorant thing to say that demonstrates the president is in WAAAAAY over his head. In otherwords, saying he "wants to" open the country by Easter, regardless of how you interpret it, that doesn't actually make it any better. If he intends to push for that as a matter of policy? He said he "wants to" , not that he will. I see it as a good statement. And I believe it gives a lot of people hope, that it will get better, that they can again provide for themselves and their family. I do not see why it should create anger, confusion and chaos. It is a good thing to get to normal, if it is possible.
It is much better then to tell the people, that the virus will get everyone, that there are no resources to care for everyone. That would create chaos.
Ok, but he is not in the same position, financially, as most Americans right now.
Most people I know are either out of work completely, or their hours are cut in half (or more). They cannot pay their bills without working, and we are currently panicking over a virus that hasn't killed more people globally than influenza has killed in the US alone in the last 2 months. So why don't we react the same way to a virus that kills 20-40k Americans each year, but now we are shutting down businesses over far less.
This is a problem of perspective. If I can't work, then my kids starve. If the government pulls money out their butts to cover months and months of not working, then we get taxed for it later, which is what they don't want to have to do.
During this crisis, we are into a situation, nobody, even professional medicals don't agree/know how this virus behaves up to now and how it will behave in the future: It's about to discuss and finally solve this issue worldwide. NOT by personal/political/corporate interests but work together!
First time see this channel and to have an open mind about not only COVID-19 but discuss any other medical topics on a way a younger generation (and even an old 40+ man as me :) ) get a voice and listening ear is a great thing you do, Doctor Mike.

@@alexmaxwell7126 Chloroquine is not an approved treatment for COVID-19, the FDA is allowing hospitals in New York to use it because there are literally hundreds of people on their death beds with no treatment or cure so this drug can't possibly have worse side effects than their eventual death. A clinically unproven hail mary for the dying is not considered a cure or treatment.

I got really scared seeing all of the media and news saying this could last over a year- I was a waitress and currently a college student- and was so worried about when unemployment runs out what I'm going to do financially. But I started watching your videos and I'm only going to stay up with channels like yours and the CDC website. I am really frustrated. Where I am, we never did a shelter in place, and although our cases are climbing daily, they are beginning to open up. The day our governor announced this, my mother was called by her employer. A bit of background - in November and December, my mother was on aggressive chemotherapy and radiation treatments, for stage 3 lung cancer, and in mid-April, her WBC was still extremely low. Because of her weakened immune system, her employer had sent her to work from home, but after the declaration about reopening everything, she was called back to the office. And she couldn't refuse, because the unemployment office is considering that sort of thing a 'voluntary termination'. I am beside myself with worry and anger, especially since I have chosen to distance myself from her, because I work in a hospital and don't want to get her sick! If I lose my mother to COVID-19 after she beat stage 3 lung cancer, I don't know what I will do. I just am so scared for her.

People are thinking about other countries like they are in a sci-fi movie or something, like it's never going to effect them, just as Italians and Spanish did with Chinese. There is a generation of people out there whose worst contagion was the 2009 swine flu pandemic. They are anti vax, smoke, don't care for social distancing and think they're invincible because they've never seen an icu in their entire life. Public health victories in the past century meant diseases like tuberculosis, Spanish flu, or bubonic plague are just footnotes in history, and just because we have fancy hospitals and shiny phones cannot be defeated by viruses.

I was one of the people affected by these politicians pretending they are Doctors and recommending a drug they do not understand for a disease that most Doctors will still figuring out. Hydroxycloroquine is the drug I'm on for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Behcets Disease. It is so frustrating how expensive it is now and how hard it was to find for awhile, because of all the misinformation.

in early 2021 my boyfriend got a job as a staffing coordinator for a rehab facility and omg the amount of stress he was in because of the lack of consistent staffing and disproportionate patient to nurse ratios. The facility was also suffering from low morale, no one wanted to work because it was so stressful, they didn't have a consistent DON because the first two had passed away from the virus in less than a year :( This was his first time working in a healthcare facility and to think that so many stressful things are going on, I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is to love your job. But my mom also started working infection control in 2019 and ended up working SO MUCH overtime and she was working in two facilities at one point. Despite how little rest she gets or the number of companions she has lost, I have never heard her complain about her job and I am proud to have a family of healthcare workers.

he gets a 5/10 for me because he was very very slow to actually point out how dangerous the corona virus is, i remember a video where he said that the flu is as dangerous and to get vaccinated against it, he just used it as a prop to advertize for flu vaccinations, which in itself is a good thing to do because the flu does kill plenty of people, it was the wrong place to do it because a lot of people took away "wow corona virus just like the flu". that is the mantra of the mentally challegned, that he contributed to it is a massive point against him, this video was his best on the subject though gotta give him props for that, anyone can be wrong in their life so i hope next time something like this occurs he will be a bitmore on the side of informing people that it could get dangerous instead of initially following a second agenda.

Mikes info is not correct entirely. Him saying the USA had to pursue its own test method, cause they did not want to take kits away from poorer countries is bullshit, no offense. The most common test worldwide is a so called PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test. This test is like a recipe... most laboratories can do it without further help. This recipe is worldwide available since january. So every country in the world had a chance to do early testing to realize an outbreak. The test was there early enough. Some countries took it, some did not. But it was not an issue of production or distribution of the selfdeveloped test how Mike believes it to be. The mistake was not to take the already available test in january and not pinpointing potential outbreaks with it.

Situations like these are extremely complex and the perfectionist species we are want to find an all mighty miracle solution to end this quickly with nothing else effected. Thank you for mentioning cancer patients. I am fighting breast cancer, and was concerned that I would not be able to get my lumpectomy or chemotherapy treatments. Thank goodness I was able to get my chemotherapy (which worked great to reduce the tumor) and was able to get my lumpectomy last week.
