It’s cuz they don’t run properly like a true fast quadruped, it’s almost like they’re galloping. If you see how a cheetah or greyhound run, their feet touch each other at the middle then extend like a kite when they open up. That’s how a fast quadruped should be running, not bearwalking / running which is just gonna slow you down. And then finally we’ll be able to break the 9.00second threshold.
The best way to run is to not wear shoes. You run VERY differently barefoot. You use all of your joints and muscles, instead of just two joints per leg. You can push off harder. Build stronger feet that can run on anything. And you won't ever fear lego again. I swear it made me 2x as fast.
It would be interesting to have different families focus on different sports through hundreds of generations, thus evolving to be the best at each of them

There was a magazine article in the 70's that said "by the year 2000, female runners will be faster than male runners", because female runners had been improving their times faster than men, slightly closing the gap between men and women's times, so the magazine just extrapolated the data from that. A great example of the dangers of simple extrapolation.

I used to run on all fours all the time as a kid. Won a race in elementary school where we were supposed to go on all fours to the finish.
The other kids weren't quite sure what to think of me. lol

I decided to teach my self to run on four legs for fun and can now run fast and jump really high like that. It's pretty good exercise
