Home again, home again, jiggedy jig! Loved the video, dan. Didn't even need a brick for this one, mate!
I am learning something new. Thank you. A blacksmith from sri lanka
Dan, you might try starting the tip of your scroll over the edge of the anvil first before you go to the jig to both avoid the flat spot (that then has to be tweaked later to look 'proper') and to help hook the scroll into the jig so it grabs, which can negate the need to use rat nose tongs to hold it in place. Nice looking hood/cover for that house by the way, I'm afraid I quite like scrolls :)
When I compare your scrolling skills to mine, you are genius.
Hmmm, just re-watched this lesson and wishing I had looked at it yesterday. Made some decorative scrolled shelf brackets but did it freehand. After watching this I might chuck them and make a jig. Where are you Daniel, we miss your vids.
Very good video, I understand not wanting to do. Things you hate to do, but you're exactly right.
One of the more fun ways I've done a scroll jig is to draw the scroll you want, then build the jig to fit. Thank you Dan for sharing again. Nicely done!
Dan. There isn't much I can teach you about smithing. Scrolls are an exception. Some tips. Your scrolls will look better if you tighten up the first part of the scroll and let the large end get bigger quicker. Think of a scroll as a wedge. It's the space inside the scroll that is a wedge all rolled up.
Start your scrolls at the anvil. It's much easier to get the first part of the curl right before you go to the jig than to try to fix it later. When a bar comes out of a scroll to straight or a curve, blend the transition a bit more so it's hard to tell where the bar ends and the scroll begins. Better flow that way. Last tip. As you make the jig, hold it at arms length and rotate it right and left at a moderate speed. Flat spots will stand out that you can't easily see when the jig is still. I learned scrolling from a true master. His scrolls flowed like water. I get goose bumps remembering his work.
I hope these tios help for future projects.

Yep. Golden ratio
Stan, not necessarily. The beauty of scrolls is that you can make them as tight or open as you wish.
Yep, golden ratio
What type of finish have you found that works best outdoors or in a shop that is moist??
Thanks for this Dan, ill be forging a scroll panel soon for college! you're an inspiration!
Gorgeous and super helpful! Thanks for the video!
Those scrolls look great! 👍
Hello Dan 🙏🇲🇽✊🏽💯💯✊🏽🇲🇽thanks for your help and time
Pleasure thank you for your comment.

I always like watching you hammer on the anvil. Really enjoyed this vid. Keep on making them.
Thank you Dan, I am up tp this point now, and needed the info. You are my remote Professor.
Good fun, thank you for put this together for our entertainment and education.

Crawford out ⚒️🧙♂️
Great job Mate✋🏽👍
I agree mate. Any time at the anvil forging and trying something outside your comfort zone is time well spent regardless of success.
Great video , thank you
Thank you too!
I have a small and large scrolling jigs and they save a ton of time! Thanks for the video!
Yes I know, I need more practice on scroll making. Yours look great.
Nice work. We posted this video on our homemade tools forum last week :)
I'm not sure what you guys do but I would like to ave a conversation with you about it. could you please email me? industrialartstudios@gmail.com.
Thank you for sharing the video
I was once told by a blacksmith at Stoke Bruerne that you can tell how old a piece of iron work is by the type of scrolls. For the life of me I can't remember the dates but Fashion changed from Fibonacci scrolls to archimedes scrolls..
Just in case you fancy doing some restoration work
Nicely done Daniel
Well done as always! Need to stretch to grow. Good stepping out on a new limb. Never know how you’ll do at something till you try. I put my jig on square stock to fit my anvil hardy lots of room around it as opposed to my vise
Great video dan
Nice jig. That's going to look great on the house!! You rock boss
I wish I could say "trust me, I'm a blacksmith", but since I'm not...I guess you can't. Rock and Scroll on! :) I loved watching that double (inverted?) taper technique.
Great video Dan thanks if you don't try you don't learn
Hi, my friend dear. Great video, new friend is here . Full support, full watched. Thanks !!!
I've attached my jigs to a piece of 2" angle iron and actually have a C-(G) clamp that I can attach them to my anvil so that I don't have to deal with the stuff around my vice.
That's a good idea! I did something like that: a base to fit the hardy hole, in this base I've attached a vise. Works pretty fine!
Jelly, rolls are my Nemesis. I hate doing spirals. LOL
As usual another fun video...
thank you so mush ...
Very good video. Have you ever made a jig for belly pickets? I think that's what they are called, They are usually on window railings. They look like a profile of a fat man. I use two different jigs to make it, and it takes a long time. There must be a better way.
Ngl im just using this to try to learn to make a scroll plate for a hand forged lathe chuck
Mite be the best scroll jig I've seen
Hell of a lot easier than trying to get consistent scrolls by hand at the anvil, although that too is a skill one should practice.
Spot on Daniel! A thought, would it benefit, to add a square shank, for the hardie or swage block? Good mass, and less effort to reposition the tool, to get the most out of a heat.
Top de mais 👍🇧🇷
Thanks for this one scrolls are not one of my favorite items .maybe i'll make a jig it mite help .
Nice Dan. Have you done a video on making the scrolling dogs?
Scrolls with a jig look easier than by hand and eye
Is there a reason for choosing the vice as medium to hold the jigs? Or is it just better, instead of welding a T shaped mild steel block under it and use it in the hardy hole / or the vice? Or is the hardy hole not the best place to bend scrolls in a tool?
Good one Dan, did you make the first bit higher didn't quite see it. I watched John from BB Forge and he made the first bit higher to start the scroll off. I"m talking about the Jig.
You need a diacro bender dude
Alright Curlers?🤔👍😊
The hardest part I have is painting a scroll. It seems I always miss a spot or two.
السلام ورحمة الله لاباس متوحشتينيش😁👉
I bet for this operation, you wish your vise was mounted solid to the floor for 360* operation. 😜
I love it but you wore my ass out! ALWAYS take time to build a jig. Start scroll before you start...
