After 200 hours | Is Ark Survival Ascended really worth buying?

- If you have looked at the community feedback and the public feedback of the game you might ask yourself if ASA is really worth the money and if you should buy it or not. I played the game for 200 hours and give you my honest opinion - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The creatures floating up to the ceiling/sky, getting caught in animals that aren't where they appear to be, getting stuck in floors, etc... has been a a real sour spot for me. And while I'm sure server performance is important it almost feels like this issue isn't even on WCs radar. And once again we're stuck with them investing dev time into dealing with PVP exploits.
They know. But as you said. Priorities are right now at making the game more stable before tackling this one.
Look me personally? Would 100% buy it, but $50 is just too much! Hopefully it goes on sale around Christmas time

I've been really enjoying ASA, but went onto ASE for a while and omg there is so much more to do and bug / crash free, ended up kinda wishing they had just asked us for $50 for a couple more dlc maps and added the QOL improvements to ASE. +100 on the tek binoculars, such a pity they come too late to be useful.
Seriously. I would have bought more DLC maps for base ark. But I have no intention or interest in ASA.
I wish they had given us the possibility to preorder so wie would have never ended up with them getting the Nitrado money.
Can you explain what is DLC maps?
I just bought ASA and it's downloading right now, i don't know if I'll keep it tho but that depends on how it performs for me

I like the new improvements and will stick to ASA. BUT. I just hate using Nitrado. I am useless with anything beyond click and play. So when I saw the interface for the Nitrado servers compared to that of GPortal. I got so lost. I guess I’m just gonna single player. I doubt I’m alone and if Nitrado could pick up their game they may attract a whole bunch of extra business.

ive been sticking with ASE it works fine tbh and I don’t think all the little changes in Asa can justify $40 but I’m happy for anyone who enjoys the new game
You have to realise though, ARK Survival Ascended, while all the improvements added can be done with mods, it is still a good game, on it's own it isn't worth the money, if you've got ARK Survival Evolved like 1 month before ASA released, it isn't worth getting ASA. BUT people like me with no lives, it's worth it. As an example, I bought ASE when it was $60 or so and I have over 2200 hours on the game so that is most certainly money well spent, ASA being an extra $60 (in my currency), if I treat it the same way I treated ASE and got another 1000 hours then that is also money well spent. When the game is optimised more and more updates, DLCs etc it will most certainly be worth it if you're willing to put time into it.
Just think about how long all dlcs will take to rollout and Dino breeding all Dinos in ASA when ARK 2 is supposed to drop sometime next year makes me wonder if it’s even worth starting Ark all the way over again from the beginning, I think not, I don’t know what this company was thinking. But ASE is great, it’s the same thing, ASA’s QOL is the update ASE should of had 5 years ago and graphics 6months ago and free.

ASA and I are not ready for each other. I'm eventually going to get new hardware, but at the moment I'm still enjoying ASE and discovering all the things it has to offer!
ASA wasn't ready for release to begin with....again...just like OG ark
It is tough with an early access game that has official servers. You are either forced to join in early access or fall way way way behind if you wait it out.
The binoculars thing bothers me too. I'm playing on your server but can't properly breed without having insights on the stats. I havnt done any bosses yet and im not there yet by long! By the time I am I already have the dinos I need. Greetings from miakodaNL renegades tribe owner 😊❤
I don’t think I’ll buy it at console release. I’ll probably wait until there’s a new map. I’m not very patient. No pods and only island will bore me silly, is a big L for me. Glad you’re enjoying it tho. Thanks for great content, as always.

I wasn't happy with the pc price until I started playing. It's beautiful. I've spent so much time just enjoying the view. No regrets, even with the bugs
Personally, im having a blast with my 14 man tribe on official PVE. We just impregnated 5 140+ bronto's yesterday and plan on doing all the bosses this week!

I both like and dislike the new breeding, i like the changes so we can get more powerful dinos but my biggest dislike is when a dino wants to be fed it doesnt say what it wants to be fed and you have to try random things until you get lucky
really? that seems like a bug. ours still say what they want.
It should say what they want over their head or look at the box that appears when you look at them. It's either food, cuddle or walk.
Are you using a controller? For some reason you need to move the cursor with a mouse or else the game won't tell you what food they want.

fwiw, The Island being stuck with lower level tames I'm positive is gone. The Ascended Island seems to have 145 and 150s a plenty. Atleast It's been that way on the xbox version.
Yea we dont. We have tons of 5, 10, 105s. Stuff you dont see with the improved levels.

no cryopods is a downer and hope to see them before there DLC in 2 years! there the best type of loot when raiding bases! the games always had that issue with walking dinos, solved that by making sure there's a long enough path from the breeder to the main base. iits based on a straight line. not footsteps!
As a console player on xbox...I'd rather wait. I have an Xbox one, so ASA definitely won't run. I started grinding the story maps this year and I'm nowhere near done on ASE...probably just going to wait until at least a few DLCs come out for ASA to purchase. And make the switch to PS5
For me, it was definitely worth it just for the atmosphere alone. I spent hours simply watching the river by moonlight and walking through the redwoods at dawn, captivated by the awesome sunbeams. However, for competitive play, it wouldn't be worth it. I would likely set all graphics to the lowest to gain an advantage in PvP, which would diminish the game's impressive visuals. Without the high-quality graphics, it just becomes a lesser version of Ark: Evolved.

Some aspects of building improved EXCEPT theyve simplified the whole system. i prefered it where you had to learn skills and techniques to build interesting things. Like fence foundations have been ruined, cannot create perfect circles any more since the fence foundations wont snap to foundations or celings :( no need to dumb the game down, were not all STUPID!!
I have seen several videos claiming circles are even better now.

@@oldrifter Depends. Making stuff more accessible is usually a good thing. Removing blueprints from the game will help with overflow errors they had in ASE when you had unlocked too many things. Decluttering is usually helping a game
ASA 280 hours+ and counting. ASE 9k+ *(mulitple accounts / PC and PlayStation)
Ive enjoyed the game a lot. I make no excuses and admit im running it on a 6 year old Savoroot (Potato) but i can still manage High to Med settings and 40ish fps with beautiful graphics and with crashes and hangs being very rare. Breeding and Taming and Boss fights .. few issues and nothing game breaking.
Hard no from me. I bought ASE when it was still very early access back when it was 24$ on steam. Since I have bought all of the DLCs as far as I recall not on sale which is already a lot of money. and now they want me to pay nearly 50$ for what is functionally a remaster? Hell no.
As expected, QoL making stuff WAY too easy. No fan of "no cables" and similar changes. I will continue to assume ASA to be a cash grab only - especially as bugs in ASE are still nowhere near fixed.
On the other hand i am no potential customer anyways, as long as i can't transfer my save files from Evolved to Ascended. Still, a nice summary, thanks for clarification.
not worth it atm if you play on offical servers, lag, floating dinos babies sometimes falling through the map or teleporting to the other side of the ,map

Yeah, the servers has been clearly the worst thing about ascended.
Host barrier hard limit of 180 meters hard capped means you must play on a server.
I played ASE on Playstation and the barrier killed me and my two other friends enjoyment entirely and that one was 300 meters hard capped.
