- I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade from analog FPV to Walksnail Digital FPV. I like it a lot, I think this is the way forward 👌
Wanna throw me a few dolla to help me keep making videos? www.buymeacoff...
Thank you for sharing your experience steping into HD and leaving analog behind. Glad you enjoying flying in HD goodness :D
Awesome. So glad you got to try WS. Thanks again.
7:22 I've also seen some people who have stabilized the video in Gyroflow and then put the osd on it to make it look better or so
I was actually thinking of doing this. Don't have gyro data but could use Davinci Resolve to stabilize the footage optically, that would probably still look decent
@@gizfpv don't your FC have a Blackbox for gyrodata?
Yeah it does, I meant I didn't have data for this specific flight. In future though I could defo pop a SD in the FC and get data that way
I absolutely love my Walksnail setup. Thinking about upgrading from VRX to the goggles myself.
I'd defo recommend the goggles, they very good
It might help others to add links in the description for the tools etc used for the HD OSD etc. :)
I can't decide between Walksnail and HDZero; I'm leaning more toward HDZero because of it's analog features. Videos like this push me back toward the center again. The video is beautiful.
I was also briefly contemplating HDzero, the HDzero goggles look like the most versatile option going (albeit ugly). However after watching a lot of comparison videos I opted for Walksnail as it's easily got a superior image quality. I think HDzero is only really appealing if you absolutely want really low latency, but for the type of flying I do that's not so important
I have the new hdzero goggles, the picture is ok, but not nearly as nice as this, two things I wish hdzero does better is penetration and higher resolution. I hear that there is a 1080 30fps mode coming , and bot grinder is reporting better penetration with the 90fps cam, however it's only 4:3. I think if you're into racing at all go for hdzero but for this application definitely walksnail or dji
@@gizfpv to be honest hdzero goggle would have been better for you with the module, one device for 3 systems and exact same performance as the WS goggle. only thing is their goggles aren't ready to buy off the shelf right now and the walksnail is
Awesome flying, dude! 😃
This system is getting better and better! But they should make a VTX version with SD card slot... Both fixed wing and quad fliers would be happy!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Oh god yes. A SD card slot and also a proper USB plug! That would be infinitely better
They're rumoured to be working on new hardware. Could be a new VTX with expandable storage etc.
@@wattage2007 I know exactly what Caddx/Walksnail is working on 😉 But I'm not allowed to say what it is.......at least not yet 😋
@@wattage2007 Fingers crossed! 😊
Nice clean looking HD video. Am surprised that many HD goggles don't have HDMI input. Not only would it make usable for simulator (or gaming), it would allow analog option via a conversion adapter. HDMI out might be nice too (external monitor on LR), but Avatar does have a workable option.
While it is great to be able to see and record OSD while flying, it might be worth experimenting with scaling the OSD to 1/4, or 1/6 for youtube video. The extra crisp OSD elements should make this possible offering best of both OSD and raw views (no need to switch like at 7:50).
Not necessary requesting, just an idea that might be worth experimentation.
Caddx really needs to switch to OTA fw updates for the air unit.
That would be a good move for sure!
Haha I like the "2 feet approximately."
Haha I did wonder if anyone would notice that. Goggles legit felt huge with the module and 3d printed spacer thing on
7:39 You could cut out the GPS data in the video with osd and fill the holes with the video without osd. then you don't have these gray boxes everywhere
I know, I did see that option on the OSD generator app, I don't know why I didn't use it
Old habits are not quick to die. ;)
Works great here, as a quick intro to new HD system. Perfection not needed on first flights.
Love mine too
Glad you're enjoying HD FPV. Does this mean you have a Walksnail module for sale?
I do yes!
Features i would like walksnail to add:
- optionally overlay OSD to video file
- graphical/pixel OSD
- improve focus mode
Features I'd like - a USB port on the VTX, and a built in mic!
Hey Giz, do you have a link to the WS mount you use on your T1? thanks!
Just asking if you used the two uarts for hd as it states in manual or did you go about it differently. Thanks.
Not really sure what you mean? I just wired up the VTX to a single UART? Don't know why the manual would be suggesting you'd need 2 UARTS?
Thanks for the walkthrough on walksnail. I have a T1 I just put walksnail in waiting for my first taste of HD. With the fonts on inav, do you see a similar font that is showing here in the googles or just the stock inav fonts? I was considering using Sneakys fonts but there was a note in the file about it not working.
The font you see in the goggles is much nicer than what you normally see with inav/analogue. It's very similar to the one you see in my video here (sneaky fpv's font). Yeah there is a warning that it's not fully supported yet (I suspect that's what it lags a bit) but it does work reasonably well
@@gizfpv Thanks for the clarification, guess I’ll have to take the plunge and upgrade to Sneakys fonts
Now you,ve gone to the darkside, can i buy your Orca,s?
Haha, I am selling them. Got them listed on Drone Junk Yard on Facebook if you want then lol
having any gps issues due to the noisy vtx? reading that people are having to ground the heatsink / shield the cables to the gps
Nope, not had any issues at all. GPS seems to be working fine
720 or 1080p at 60 FPS, the file sizes are very similar....🤔😳😏😏🇬🇧
What firmware are you using?
I'm using the most recent official release
@@gizfpv Im using the latest firmware from Discord...I think it's 31. I was using 29 and the image was not good at all, a huge improvement. I'm surprised you didn't buy the HD Zero goggles as combined with the snail VRX you could run analogue. I bought the Avatar Goggles as well though, pretty pleased with mine TBH....I also have the VRX combo cos it was cheap, that setup is with a 10 monitor for FW flying....Goggles for my Quads.....🤔😳😏😏😏🇬🇧
@@EnglishTurbines I did consider the HDzero goggles, but ultimately decided against them as it would be a bulky setup. Rather just have a separate set of goggles for analogue I think. Oh really? That's interesting about the firmware. My buddy is running the 31 firmware on his avatar's, but can't say I can see any obvious difference between his footage and my own 🤔 I should probably upgrade to that firmware anyway though, seems most people are using it without any problems
@@gizfpv Agreed about the HD zero's...Yes, load up the 31 firmware, it's way better...The difference is considerable, but only noticeable when flying low using a quad!!!...Blurry grass....Have you loaded the Sneaky fonts into your goggles?...If not, do that first...before 31...🤔😏😏
