    Great lineup. Scotch of the year for me was easily the Port Charlotte 18. The runner-up was Kilkerran 16. Ledaig 18 is also fantastic. I wish i could find a bottle

    Frey Ranch "Farm Strength" was my absolute favorite this year. Never had it before but I picked it up at an allocated sale at my grocery store as a random taste. $60 bottle but I'm still trying to decide if it is the best bourbon I've ever had... It might take the whole bottle to decide because I know where to get more... Lol

    • @whiskeyisajourney

    Great list! Always nice to see what you're digging.
    If I exclude single barrels, here's my list:
    Irish whiskey: Redbreast px finished
    American Whiskey: Bardstown Bourbon Company Amrut finish
    Peated Scotch: Port Charlotte 18
    Unpeated: Old Pulteney 18
    American single malt: Westward Milestone Batch 2
    Rye: sagamore triple cask (MD only release
    Bourbon: Bookers the Reserves
    It was a great year for whiskey. For whiskey prices? Not so much, lol.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Місяць тому +1

      Great list! I have not had the Port Charlotte 18 or the Westward Milestone. They would probably have been on the list. A lot of people love those bottles. I never saw them in my area when they came out. It was a great year for whiskey and you are right...prices sucked! Have a happy new year Anthony!

    Great video.
    My Irish of the year was Redbreast 21. I loved the Missouri Oak as well.
    Love the Little Book Path Not Taken & the Infinite
    My favorite peated Scotch that I owned the bottle was Octomore 14.1 and Port Charlotte 10 runner up.
    Favorite non peated Scotch was my Glenfiddich 21 and runner up was a barrel pick Speyburn Companion Cask. This inexpensive pick beat so many very expensive scotches in blinds it was incredible.
    Rye of the year goes to Michter’s 10 year rye and runner up is the best valued always on the shelf rye whiskey JD SBBP Rye ( love the Sag 9).
    Best whiskey I have had this year is hands down the Russell’s Reserve 15.
    Runner up for me is the Stagg 22b.

    Awesome list! I need to start my journey into Irish. I’m well into Scotch for a long time and started Bourbon and Rye recently. I went to too many Bourbon distilleries this year and I will recommend you to try a couple of Texas Bourbons. First is the Garrison Brothers. Their Cowboy Bourbon is expensive, so try the Guadalupe. It’s very good! But my #1 recommendation is to try 1845 Dist Co. They were awarded double medal in SanFran in their first competition and got Top 3 Bourbon by Forbes. They have 3 mashes in 2 different options. One is 100 proof and the other is barrel strength. The barrel strength of their wheated mash is my favorite. It’s now on Total Wine for $69. It’s worth every penny!

    This is a great list that is mostly attainable to me. I met a Scotsman who said he uses Craigellachie 13 year as a palate cleanser. Arran 21 I may have to get overseas. So happy that Jack Daniels SB BP is getting love. My Scotch of the year from 2024 is Ardbeg Uggiedahl. I got it on sale in 2024 and enjoyed it tremendously

      Can't go wrong with RR15 as a #1, but in my personal rankings I have JW 211 as my only 'perfect' bourbon I've tasted. I have this year's GTS, RR15, last year's FR 135th, FN Batch 010/Hell Diver...still, JW 211 is tops for me; this is likely because if I wanted to go out and purchase any of the aforementioned bottles again, I'm going to probably pay (at least) twice what I could for yet another JW.

    I just had a look at my tasting notes and realised that 2024 was almost entirely unpeated Scotch for me! I've only listed one Irish (Athru Small Batch, which does deserve to win for that category) and one bourbon (Holladay Soft Red Wheat BiB, which doesn't!). There were a few ryes and a couple of other American whiskeys, but they were overshadowed by English, French, Welsh, Indian and even Brazilian examples. There were even only half-a-dozen peated Scotches. Not representative of a typical year at all...

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Місяць тому +1

      Athru is interesting. I have not had the small batch, but I have had the 3 14year releases. I am not exactly sure what to think of them. Billy Walker is involved with it correct? In 2025 I need to get more "international" bottles along with more American Single Malts. Happy New Year!

    Been hearing good things about the Jack Barrel Proof Rye but I dislike ryes. So I ask: If someone poured you that but didn't tell you what it was, would you say it's a bourbon or a rye?

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Місяць тому +1

      I would say yes it still tastes like a rye, but maybe more like a high rye bourbon.

      @whiskeyisajourney  День тому

      I shipped something overseas for a giveaway on my other channel and it was ridiculous. It was a phone gimbal and once it arrived there was some kind of extra charge that needed to be paid or the item couldn't be delivered. I think the entire shipping cost was something like $150.

      Wow! Thats a lot of money, the bastards😂….maybe if you had over 10 internationals putting 10 dollar in it could be worth it? I’d pay £10 for a chance at some of that good bourbon you’d have 😂. Do am international one separate, see if you can still make some money for the channel, bet you have loads of subscribers outside the USA.
