1st time watcher. Love the fact you go round all the main areas/countries and flavour profiles. People like different things and you go through your favourites of the year. Appreciated 👏
Since day one of the channel and continuing on I will always be covering different categories. It is what the channel has been built upon. Cheers and thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it.
Great lineup. Scotch of the year for me was easily the Port Charlotte 18. The runner-up was Kilkerran 16. Ledaig 18 is also fantastic. I wish i could find a bottle
The video I lost/deleted was a Sip It or Skip It with my sister on Christmas Day and we did the Kilkerran 16. I have to add it to my wheel again so it will come up again. I like all your choices. Cheers!
Great video. My Irish of the year was Redbreast 21. I loved the Missouri Oak as well. Love the Little Book Path Not Taken & the Infinite My favorite peated Scotch that I owned the bottle was Octomore 14.1 and Port Charlotte 10 runner up. Favorite non peated Scotch was my Glenfiddich 21 and runner up was a barrel pick Speyburn Companion Cask. This inexpensive pick beat so many very expensive scotches in blinds it was incredible. Rye of the year goes to Michter’s 10 year rye and runner up is the best valued always on the shelf rye whiskey JD SBBP Rye ( love the Sag 9). Best whiskey I have had this year is hands down the Russell’s Reserve 15. Runner up for me is the Stagg 22b.
You have some great choices on your list. All of them are wonderful whiskies. At least the ones I have had. Glenfiddich 21 sounds interesting. I am still trying to get my hands on anything Michter's 10. Cheers! Happy New Year!
Great list! Always nice to see what you're digging. If I exclude single barrels, here's my list: Irish whiskey: Redbreast px finished American Whiskey: Bardstown Bourbon Company Amrut finish Peated Scotch: Port Charlotte 18 Unpeated: Old Pulteney 18 American single malt: Westward Milestone Batch 2 Rye: sagamore triple cask (MD only release Bourbon: Bookers the Reserves It was a great year for whiskey. For whiskey prices? Not so much, lol.
Great list! I have not had the Port Charlotte 18 or the Westward Milestone. They would probably have been on the list. A lot of people love those bottles. I never saw them in my area when they came out. It was a great year for whiskey and you are right...prices sucked! Have a happy new year Anthony!
Great video and greetings from the UK 🇬🇧. Some wonderful drams there. My personal whisky of 2024 would be Glen Scotia Victoria from Campbeltown. Happy new year 🎉 ✨️
Need to go check out that JD SBBPR review. Just picked up one at 137.2 and I have another at 137.9. Just couldn't leave them on the shelf even though I've never had it before.
I also watched for the first time and subscribed. Very interesting selection. Plan to taste my Russell 15 on New Years Eve with my son. Thought JD Coy Hill was amazing.
My top 5 discoveries this year may not be the newest, but Alberta Premium cask strength rye, Jack Daniel’s single barrel barrel proof rye Heroes selection, Still Austin Cask Strength bourbon, Still Austin Cask Strength Rye and Jack Daniel’s triple mash bonded. Honorable mentions are sagamore double oaked Rye, Larceny barrel proof C924 and Blantons gold.
Good list! I’d you liked booker path not taken try the Hardins creek Jacob’s well. Many said better than found north and best bottle of GTS. Mix of high rye with bourbon mash 15-17 year age
Can't go wrong with RR15 as a #1, but in my personal rankings I have JW 211 as my only 'perfect' bourbon I've tasted. I have this year's GTS, RR15, last year's FR 135th, FN Batch 010/Hell Diver...still, JW 211 is tops for me; this is likely because if I wanted to go out and purchase any of the aforementioned bottles again, I'm going to probably pay (at least) twice what I could for yet another JW.
Hey Peter! Great list for a great year. My list is longer on the EU side than US side, and in some categories I have more than one (peat head here!) Irish: Blue Spot. Runner up: Bushmills 16. American Whisky: Balcones Texas Single Malt Peated Scotch: Ledaig 18. Runner Ups: Ardnamuchan AD CS & Compass Box Secrets of Smoke. Non-Peated Scotch: Compass Box Hedonism 2024. Runner up: Glengarioch 12 (amazing VFM) Rye: Barrell Seagrass Bourbon: Eagle Rare 10 (again, amazing VFM). Happy New Year and looking forward to the channel in 2025!
Happy New Year! I will be doing a Redbreast Frist Friday Flight Fight January 3rd. The Tawny Port will not be in it, but the 18 and the 27 will. It will be interesting to see where they land in the lineup. Typically I am not a fan of port in whiskey. Cheers!
Thank you for the kind words and the well wishes. The same goes out to you and yours as well. Cheers and thank you for all the support during our journey together.
The blend would have been epic! I have been drinking too much over the past few days so I had to take a break. I will try it later once my palate calms down and my liver has time to rest. 😁 Happy new year Tony! I really appreciate your humor and all the comments over this past year! Cheers!
@whiskeyisajourney Thank you. But we should acknowledge "epic" could go to either end of the extreme of the spectrum of 'yum' or 'what have we done'! I do hope for the former. I thank you for your channel, and your sharing of your insights into this journey. Your journey.
Nice list! Redbreast PX is a great Irish pour! Old Elk dbl wheat is awesome! Little Book 8 really nice! Not much of a scotch guy:( Sagamore rye’s are all hitters! JDSBBP Rye is hard to beat! I found a store in Paso Robles California that sells the JDSBBP rye and bourbon for 49.99 all day no limit. Russell’s 15yr is top notch for sure! I paid 325.00 out the door and I would buy another if it pops up! Cheers!
I just had a look at my tasting notes and realised that 2024 was almost entirely unpeated Scotch for me! I've only listed one Irish (Athru Small Batch, which does deserve to win for that category) and one bourbon (Holladay Soft Red Wheat BiB, which doesn't!). There were a few ryes and a couple of other American whiskeys, but they were overshadowed by English, French, Welsh, Indian and even Brazilian examples. There were even only half-a-dozen peated Scotches. Not representative of a typical year at all...
Athru is interesting. I have not had the small batch, but I have had the 3 14year releases. I am not exactly sure what to think of them. Billy Walker is involved with it correct? In 2025 I need to get more "international" bottles along with more American Single Malts. Happy New Year!
I have been sipping on Power's John's Lane the past few weeks and it is really good. I would not be surprised if it made my list next year. Especially if I get my hands on the CS version.
Really enjoyed watching you and your sister this year. Love your videos. Have a merry Christmas and a happy new year. Cheers I’m not sure what my whiskey of the year was because there’s been so many good ones I guess like I said to somebody else the Highland Park 27 year-oldfrom Gordon McPhail at 59%. I open for my 60th birthday was absolutely delicious. I’m gonna try and make that last for a long time.
Very interesting. I could buy bottles over $100 but I just feel it to be a waste for me personally. I can tell difference between a $20 and $80 bourbon but not $50 vs $90 ones. ( There are a few bourbons that I may pay the higher prices for but they are ones that are never available for me. Good thing I guess). You did a good 2024. Looking forward to 2025.
I think a lot of people including myself would agree with you on the price thing. Thanks! 2024 was amazing and I am looking forward to 2025 just as much as I did that past few years. Cheers!
I am not sure if any store specializes in single malts, but I would recommend Trevor's Liquor and your typical Total Wine stores. Enjoy your stay in Phoenix. Cheers!
Been hearing good things about the Jack Barrel Proof Rye but I dislike ryes. So I ask: If someone poured you that but didn't tell you what it was, would you say it's a bourbon or a rye?
I only reviewed 3 Japanese whiskies this year and a few world/international bottles this year. I need to strike a balance in 2025 and bring in more for reviews. Cheers!
Now that I am retired it might be something I start up sometime in 2025. I need to give it some thought and figure out what I can offer that will provide value. I am open to suggestions.

@@whiskeyisajourney I really enjoy your Sip it or Skip it series 🥃
I have been enjoying Teeling Blackpitts lately. For peated scotch, it is Laphroaig Elements L 1.0
I don't think Blackpitts gets enough recognition. It's a good peated Irish whiskey. Happy New Year!

American Whiskey: Cedar Ridge Quintessential Single Malt
I have heard great things about that bottle. I need to keep my eye out for it. Cheers!
Solid pick!
Sure wish I could have found a Russell's 15 this year. Found a 13 last year but no luck this year.
I got lucky with the lottery from Total Wine. Otherwise I never saw one and would not have gotten one. Cheers!
Went to a tasting that had Pappy 23, George T Stagg and Russells 15. The Russells was far and away the best of the bunch
Like I said in the video...it's the best whisk(e)y I have had so it does not surprise me it did well. Cheers!
Great picks Peter!
Mine might be:
Peated- Kilchoman 16
Unpeated- Glen Scotia 9 Fino
Rye- Willet 4 Year
Bourbon- Knob Creek 18
Irish- Blue Spot 7
All very good choices. What release of the KC18?
The 2024 KC18……
I should also include the Bruichladdich 18 in there too I really liked that a bunch too.

Arran 21 is almost impossible to find in UK/Ireland/Germany (at RRP)
I think it is available here because it cost so much. Not a lot of people are buying it at the price I paid for it.
That Redbreast PX is amazing! 2nd only to Power's John's Lane.

Is RR15 or Rickhouse better? Had a chance to buy a pour of Rick house and it was quintessential RR. I was in heaven lol
I have not had the Rickhouse so I can't comment which one is better. I would imagine you can't go wrong with either.
Every list, #1 russels 15. Shocking.
Standout bottles typically hit #1 for everyone. It was a no brainer. Cheers and have a happy new year!

Been hearing good things about the Jack Barrel Proof Rye but I dislike ryes. So I ask: If someone poured you that but didn't tell you what it was, would you say it's a bourbon or a rye?
I would say yes it still tastes like a rye, but maybe more like a high rye bourbon.
Next year we need a Japanese/ world whiskey category 🗣️
And I’d also recommend doing a category of all blended whiskeys regardless of origin
