You were in my spot. Pulled a 200lber out of there👍👍 23:19
Great job guys! Can you introduce me to Lance for fishing trip. We going to Alaska next summer
Road tripped as a kid from the east coast to Homer and back. We loved Homer so much we bought a little cabin and a old 6 pack charter boat, and we spend most summers there.
Try catching a halibut using that Walmart rod y’all bought! 😂
Hahaha we shall
I love your halibut videos, boys! My Father-In-Law (who has since gone on to be with the Lord) brought salmon and halibut back from an Alaska trip and I don't know if it was the way he cooked it or whatever but it was the best fish I ever stuffed into my face.
The 5:30am Chief Keef 😂😭 waking up Homer right
😂😂😂
1:05 _"No way we couldn't say no"_ *Is that like....* _'Yes! We have no bananas'?_ 🤣
Awesome halibut fishing and your weather is looking good ( not much wind ) will try the cheeks, thanks
Thanks and they’re pretty good!
The collars make great fish stock or chowder. Sweat some celery, onion and garlic in butter. Add the collars and water. Season with salt and pepper and then simmer till the meat comes off the bone. Add some fresh chopped parsley and potatoes and cook till the taters are tender. Enjoy! The soup lends itself to the stronger flavor of the collars.
Nice Hali's guys. Here in Cali, we fish anywhere from 10' to 30' in San Francisco Bay. Another great funny video.
Thanks!
Northern halibut is if not the best tasting one of the best tasting fish you could ever eat
Met the MinnDak boys about a week ago in Homer, solid ass dudes who are very down to Earth. Keep up the good work fellas
Appreciate you! Hope all is well!
Great show ! Now I'm real hungry ! Thanks guys ! G
Also, I don’t use it but Sea Alice lol hilarious 😂🤣
😂😂😂
I retired selling it! Spelled differently.
My pb California halibut weighted 37. My uncle and I both caught two back to back. It was a shock they all weighted the same but some where thick and others were long. All before going to work.
You guys rocked it in this video!!!
Beautiful fish!!! I must say. You guys eat well. Fresh as fresh can be.
Stay safe. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks!
Last time I was up in Ak we were fishing in 500 ft of water. This looks like more fun than reeling up 2 lbs of weight 10 minutes to check your bait. Best videos as always. Heading up to DIY Moose hunt in September and maybe get after some ducks.
Jeez!
It amazes me how regularly these large guys are caught they’ve done a good management job on them it seems
It’s crazy
Look up the annual bycatch from the commercial fleet. It's tons of dead fish being dumped back.
@@duckwacker8720 and if thats the case, they need to do something about that. Thats frankly a waste they could at least donate it to local stores and such.
The fish are big because of their genetics, as seen in the record differences between Alaska (459 lbs.) And the californian record which i do not know off of the top of my head. The charter captains are only allowed two a day (4 in possessio), one under 28 and one of any size. Likewise, self guided boats can have two of any size and 4 in posession. The comercial longliners generally fish in areas way farther out and way deeper than the charter companies or privage owned boats.
@@DrewsfishingtripsBycatch means fish other than halibut being thrown back. This is sadly the case, but most of the fish they throw back have little to no market value. Or the harvest of such species is illegal. In the case of it being illegal, they are required by law to not retain it as part of their catch. The fish they throw back, however harmful and bad for the environment, are still consumed by other creatures and in turn, feed the halibut.
Damn!!! Fighting Butt! Sheeesh!
Shewww
Born and raised alaskan!Mayonnaise, lemon slices lawreys seasoning salt, a dash of lemon pepper wrapped in tin foil!! With copious butter to tatse!
Yum!
Aloha, try some toasted coconut flakes in there too.
Thanks for the awesome entertainment in the great state of Alaska!
No problem
Wow huge halibut my fav tasting fish
i heard the upper crooked creek has good king fishing right now 🤫
I heard that Jaden garner likes……
Some advice from a local…
Throw back anything over 30-35 lbs. One reason is the flavor is best in the younger halibut. You’ll notice a definite difference in texture and flavor as the fish gets bigger. Large halibut are simply gross to eat because they are flavorless.
Another reason is how much fish you get. A 30lb fish will give you plenty of fillets for the freezer. Two that size and you’ll have halibut in your freezer so long you won’t want to eat it.
Beyond that is the impact on the fishery. Large halibut are our breeders. They produce millions of baby halibut every year. Take a picture as it’s next to the boat and release it.
Absolutely 💯 % NOT true, halibut up to 120# have great flavor just the filets are bigger. The specific body condition of the fish had not to do with the flavor. Only really small halibut have a diffent flavor.
I’ll get on a plane rn and come fish/film with y’all 😂 541 MinnDak colab????
Hooooooooo yaaa
Say less if you got a bed for me I will 100% send it. Never been to Alaska
Cheek are the best. Jonny's season salt and butter. Smoke the collars
So jealous of the life you live. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks! It took a long time to get to this point!
Yeah salmon collar and belly in One cut specially freshly caught! I can Emagine what The BOT taste like.
Hell yeah!
My first first! I wish I could catch halibut like that
It’s fun!
Thanks for the code. Received the first shipment of many to come from Custom Seafood. Best tasting and overall deal I’ve had to date in South Texas.
Heck yes!
Not bad for frozen.
I love your videos so much🎣🎣🎣
I love you so much
@@MinnDakOutdoors thank you 🙏
Still waiting on the battered deep fried halibut. Half frozen halibut cut into 1 inch squares dried w/paper towles and dipped in beer batter + seasoning (pancake batter) untill golden brown.
Yum!
We had a seventy pounder slide into one of our crab pots, I tried to remove it with one hand and that damn thing made me punch myself in the face three times trying to gain control of it. I smashed his head in with a ball hammer and fifteen minutes later it was still flapping around but later on we ate that sucker. Yummy!!!!!! Well worth my black eye. We also encounter eels, those things are just as dangerous. Man the ocean has some cool shit in it to catch. I miss fishing. This is living! 😂
I wish you guys filmed fileting the halibut. I want to see how you cut off the batwing.i love the cheeks.
Wow that’s awesome fish I thought our 47 lb shore fish was big wow! You are such lucky guy to do what you do. Maybe one day you can come try Seward shore fishing with us it would be awesome BOUTDOORSALASKA if your interested. I love you videos
Thanks bro
I love Halibut and in Calgary it costs $35 per pound so what you brought in (80.7 lbs) would cost $2824.50 here….cool!
Facts!
Head out to Port Hardy on van island and bring a whole bunch back with you for big savings and a lot of fun!
Hey Minndak, as a long time Sub I have a question, its my dads 50th Birthday next year and want to take my dad on an Alaskan fishing trip almost exactly what youve been doing, the stream fishing, the salmon fishing, the halibut etc. how much does something like this cost??
I’m not 100% sure but for all of your salmon and trout trips, I would contact hunter at H&H fishing adventures! He offers all types of trips at an affordable price
Sam sure gets teased a lot
Yummy
Walmart tackle isn't reliable?
Do another halibut video
For sure!
I might not never make it to Alaska so your videos are really nice to be able to let me dream about it ! You guys put out some really good content, I love when you pull those Hali- butt in the boat and you have to stand back or they'll kick your Butt!
Facts!
Homer is good but Yakutat you catch them in 100 feet of water!
Out did yourselves on this one ...
Thanks!
I caught a halibut bigger than that or around the same size, I jig alone sometimes and it took me like 5 or more mins to put it up to the surface and I was freaking out because it was big and I was always told to bring a gun but I didn’t expect to catch a barn door and all I had was a gaff and fought it while it was shaking then it was in my boat and it was flipping out so I was not going near it until it calmed down, I’m not trying to get a broken ankle or leg so I just kept stabbing the mf in the head until it was dead and I was exhausted I tried a couple more but I think there was whales so I just left back home
DO LANCE DO ANY CHARTER GUIDE
I didnt know you have to shoot little tiddlers like that !!
How many times you gonna make the same video?
69 times
Lance is on the meat.
Always!
Where's Otto ?
“That’s why you shoot them”…..proceeds to violently react. Shooting it once clearly wasn’t enough. Love y’all’s videos, would love to continue seeing them. Stay safe.
Hahah
It’s known nd of crazy how the halibut don’t die with a gunshot in there head
Facts
Wonder if the captain realizes Alaska law state who ever picks up the rod not land the fish had possession of the fish......
0:31 are you serious?
Tasting
Yoooooo I’m here
Sup daddy!
If you shoot them in the right spot they don't move let alone flop.
Tru
❤️👊💪🎣
👍👍👍
No cleaning? what da?
Awesome video, but I really don't understand this captain's desire to shoot every fish. Usually this is reserved for much larger fish that would be left in the water to bleed. No point of shooting it, pissing it off and bringing it all pissed off onboard... Defeats the purpose of shooting it and introduces a very real hazard on the vessel of having a live gun alongside with dealing with a pissed off fish... Just my 2 cents as someone who's been fishing Alaskan water for 20 years and never had to shoot one yet.
Yo
John Wick or Lance?
Lance wick 😂
👍
Why are you shooting a halibut that size? Just pull it in and bonk it like you did anyways.
Aloha, and clicks. We used to harpoon them, bonk them boatside, gill them, then bring them into the boat. Had one captain who used a bang stick .
@@adamyoung480
Aloha. 👍
I assume you're referring to larger fish because none of that needs to be done with the smaller fish. With the larger halibut a modified .410 loaded with #7.5 shot works well. You know some of those pellets are going to find the brain. A handgun is a poor solution. Halibut have such small brains that it's unlikely you'll hit a moving fish in the brain with a single bullet. Besides, yeah, I'll admit it. I don't like even seeing animals with small brains suffer. Get the job done right the first time.
Harpoons, yes, I've seen that but never used one myself. Bang stick, nope. 😄
My largest halibut was a 101 pounder northeast of Port Hardy at a place called Shelter Pass. My second largest was a 77 pounder taken in the same spot literally minutes after I landed the 101 pounder. Nothing truly massive, but not bad. Both were brought under control with one shot from a .410.
Cheers. 👍
@@Mo_Taser Aloha, I’ve never used a firearm on a fish. I never harvested the big ones. They’re the breeders and the meat is not as good. That was just me. But I did have a captain once who used to use a .38 bang stick for larger ones. Sometimes I think it was for tips. He was a Highliner and my boss, so who was I to argue? But yeah, there was no other reason to shoot fish of that size in the video other than views.
Y’all must not have any forks .
shoot a 20# fish? GO GETUM COWBOY
Why not just gaffe the fish?
Did he just shoot it in the head?
Let’s gooooo!!!!
😤😤😤
