LightBurn Tips - Fixing GRBL Intensity Problems!

- In this episode, we will show you how to properly set the intensity values inside of LightBurn to match those of GRBL. As in the example my GRBL based laser was only outputting 1/4 of the power when set to 100% (i.e. S1000). At first we though it to be hardware issue however doing some digging we found the S-Max Value and it was set to 255 approximately 25% of the actual max value (i.e. $30=1000) which GRBL understood to be the maximum. So if your having issues with your GRBL based laser under performing this, is the first place I would suggest looking!

Oh man!!! I sure hope this fixes my problem. I've been having to run my laser at really stupid slow speeds and high power only for it to not match anything the stock creative space can do for my D1 Pro 20W. I was fixing to spend some money on the 40W laser head out of desperation to finish up a project this month. This might save my bacon!

I bought a used 15,000MW universal blue laser. It worked okay but then I replaced the diode with an A40640. Then trying to get it to work with the existing control board was less than fun. So I scrapped the mainboard and am using an arduino uno with shield and DRV8825 controllers. I'm having issues getting it to fire the laser at all. I think the issue is in the config.h file to swap around the Z+ limit to be the PWM (from pin 11 or 12). Do you have any videos addressing this already?

Do you have a video for listing the correct $ codes, my Atomstack A5 M50 is not conforming with the size of my X410 Y400mm, second is my laser doesn't start when I press start, would appreciate if you could direct me to one of you video for this problem with lightburn. Hello, I have an 80watts diode laser grbl 1.1 and when I want to put the pause the travel stops but the laser is still on. The laser keeps burning in the same place and makes a hole. Please help me. Thank you very much ☺️
Thanks for the brief, concise video! However, I checked my settings and they match, but still can't burn anything with LB. LaserGRBL works fine, so I know the laser is functional. Any ideas?

I have a question my laser burns for the beguining but the stops it keeps going though like it’s burning but no laser
My K40 I have S=1000 in the equipment settings, and $30=1800 in the GRBL settings. This give me about 19mA output at LightBurn 100% so I don't overpower the tube. I also set $31=7 as the K40 laser tube won't even fire at very low mA.
Yes you can do that also however I like to set it even as sometimes I do run my K40 at 100% (~21ma) as I think fret too much about running the tube lower as it is a trade off as no matter what the tube is a consumable and if the higher power saves time that is money and I am ok with. However each person needs to make that decision...
I did this on my Atomstack X7 Pro. $30 showed 1000 so I changed it in Lightburn and the laser was burning way too hot like it was locked at 100% even if I had it at 10% power on the layer settings. Not sure what is going on.

I am having a problem with Alarm 3 Reset while in motion.GRBL cannot guarantee position. Lost steps are likely. Rehoming is recommended which I did. ON or near Line 0. Please help!

Good afternoon. From your video I understood the following: 255 is 1/4 of the normal laser power. Always use 1000, the full laser power. The question arises - is it harmful to the laser? Perhaps this will shorten the life of the laser? This concerns the program LightBurn?
what you run the laser at (i.e. duty cycle) is separate from this. As the idea of this is to align the two values other wise S1000 only equals S255 which is about a quarter of the value. Also no there should in general be no issue...
@@DIY3DTECHcom Now I am sure that S-value max on Ortur Laser Master 2 should be set to 1000. I contacted Ortur technical support and received the answer: S-value range from ortur machines is 0-1000 therefore S-MAx is 1000. S0-S255 is usually the range on 8bit controlers, Ortur is a 32bit controler. The limitation of the 8bit controlers implys the gradation in power can only have 256 divisions (8bit). This limit is not present on32bit controlers as ortur ence why S1000 is max.
My problem is the Laser( Ortur Laser master 2) does not shut down after a burn. It stays at full burn well into a minute after the Job. So glad I put it in the Ortur Enclosure as I would have a burnt table. Have gone over the settings in Console many times Everything matches. I have to shut the power off on the laser to get it to stop. should not have to do that>
I have an eleksmaker and there is no $$-30 showing on console. S-value max is 255. Should I add the $$$-30 to console.
ah, the lightburn ui is a bit mess... i looked multiple times into the device, there are no settings at all... now, your video showed me another bunch of device settings. not shure why they should have to be at two different places. thanks!

HI! It seems that I have exactly the same problem, but even after I changed the value from 255 to 1000, laser seems to be operatng only in low power,
It just left a dot burned in the starting point, and then no mark on the paper, on the path where it should cut.
I have Neje Master2 machine. Any ideas how could I fix that?
Make sure $30 and this value match...

In the video it shows $32=0 surely that is for a router? For use with a laser I understood that it should be $32=1 - it just adds to a bit of confusion.

Having a problem with my burns maybe you have come across this problem and possibly have an answer. My burns on my projects are spotty letters not entirely burned and in some areas not burning. Appreciate any help Thank you.
