    LYRICS:
Spray a little ether in the breather
    And hope she cranks
Pour a little Folgers from the thermos
    And take a drink
    Hard pack them Marlboro reds
Check the oil and the recap treads
    Little Rock’n’roller on the radio
    You’re gonna miss your boys
    but it’s time to go
Put eighteen hours on eighteen wheels
With little white pills nippin’ at your heels
Like some outlaw asphalt cowboy in the wind
Ridin’ high till you run out
It’s an uphill battle just gearin’ down
Try’n’a to get somewhere on a road that just don’t end
Racin’ time and losin’ miles you’ll never get back again
Little boy wishin’ he was fishin’ in his dreams
Never got to know you too good,
Now he says things he don’t mean
Ya couldn’t make a good thing last
Always had to go so fast
But age caught up, slowed you down
And the days, they just fly by now
Like eighteen hours on eighteen wheels
With little white pills nippin’ at your heels
Like some outlaw asphalt cowboy in the wind
Ridin’ high till you run out
It’s an uphill battle just gearin’ down
Try’n’a to get somewhere on a road that just don’t end
Racin’ time and losin’ miles you’ll never get back again
Well this cat in the cradle never got a silver spoon
Now I run the roads just like you
There’s cities between her and me
    and a real life
Man, I swear that it feels like
    Eighteen hours on eighteen wheels
With little white pills nippin’ at my heels
Like some outlaw asphalt cowboy in the wind
Ridin’ high till I run out
It’s an uphill battle just gearin’ down
Try’n’a to get somewhere on a road that just don’t end
Racin’ time and losin’ miles I’ll never get back again

30 years of watching asphalt disappear under my feet. Not sure how much longer I’ll keep going. I miss the days you refer to in this song and they ain’t coming back. Hell, I’m too old for that anymore anyway. Great song and truly appreciate those of you in the music industry that take the time to acknowledge the sacrifices we make out here every day.

@@anthonyhousewright3180 this is 100% truth. I didn’t even get a cell phone till 2005. Life as a otr driver was a lot better back then. I’m just thankful that I got to experience that and am close to retirement now.

My baby drives otr flatbed, I miss him everyday. Nobody knows how hard the trucking life is just so people can have the simple things they take for granted. You dont know happiness until you hear those jakes around the corner and the air brakes pop when he comes home, or the sadness and pain when that engine starts back up to leave.

I agree 100% my husband has been a trucker 90% of our 7 years of blissful marriage he works for Coleman those military members are the closest ones that understand about missing your families like we miss our husbands the sweet sound of the air brakes never gets old though then they leave and you pray they will return to you safe and sound

@Elvie Shane... It was such an honor to meet you at #CFF2022 in Tooele Utah! You really made my boys so happy when they came up to you in the crowd. Thank you for being so humble and down to Earth.
On April 16th, we lost a Truck driving legend. He drove oversized loads most his career, but he was also a driving instructor at the local college out here in Utah, he not only taught my husband how to drive a big rig, but became a Father figure to him and made him a good man. This song touches my husband in a whole new way. God Bless You Elvie. R. I. P. Bill Hall... The rest of these miles will be in honor of you. 🇺🇲🦅❤️

Saw Elvie Shane at Countryfest last week. It was Daddy-daughter weekend for me and he didn’t disappoint. His music just hits a little different, a little deeper, a little closer to home and the heart strings. I had a firebird when i was 17. I’m a father of 4, two of which are girls. “My Boy” is fantastic, but the “My Girl” version I thought was even better. My best friend’s Dad was a truck driver and passed away a couple years ago. My friend has his old Borg-Warner odometer in his office at Bohan in Nashville with over 800k miles on it. I can still hear his Dad calling me “string” growing up.
    Thank you Mr. Shane

(He's now a retired life-long truck driver)Me working 12-16 hrs/day 6 days/week in construction away from home, missing out on family get-togethers & milestones he once asked me, "Baby girl, are you working to live or living to work? Moments and time with loved ones? Well life didn't come with a rewind or edit button. Really think about & evaluate that for a bit." #lovemydad ❤

My late husband owned Against The Wind trucking company out of Holland, Michigan. I took time away from my job and became his "Lumper"...he got very sick in a matter of weeks. He agreed with me that he just couldn't do it anymore. 2 weeks later he passed away from Renal Failure

I think this song has some serious Bob Seger vibes, and I think if you can do that, then you have serious talent, amazing song for those of us who live that life. thank you.
