This the first time I have ever understood someone explaining how to write chords and melodies! Thank you
Same
the idea of making music is stuck in my head for months, and i got so much anxiety because i didn't knew where to start, it looked so hard and not for common folk like me lmao
i just want to cry because in a few minutes thanks to you i made what i couldn't do in weeks, thank you so much
You remove all the intimidation out of trying to make music. Inspiring!
Ah, where have this channel been this entire time 😭😭
This is the most well put together tutorial/demo I have ever seen. The understanding you have of your craft shows in your teaching style. You have done what many struggle to do when teaching, removing the intimidation of the process.
Honestly, this should be your most viewed video, I have watched this at least 7 times and you have shown that I and others can do it.
Over 30 years producing, writing and playing- and this was a great video. The fundamentals of current music dropped here were nice and easily digestible. Clearly, being more creative will be more interesting, but starting here is a great place to build from.
I love your vibe man! Just found you today and I can’t stop watching. You make things so much more simple than others that try to explain things. Much appreciated!

True bro
*you put a lot into a short time without feeling rushed, impressive dude.*
I'm not into EDM but you've given me new insight and ideas. Thanks for the inspiration.
Milton Kendrick that’s awesome man thanks
This is genuinely one of, if not the best tutorials for beginners out there. Thanks Alex :D
Gotta be honest after you mentioned "helping thousands of students" I figured this was going to be a bunch of clickbait BS but was shocked to find that you then gave us ACTUAL PRACTICAL TANGIBLE tips on making music! Thank you for surprising me!
(Two year later edit:) After watching this video and posting this comment, I started on my first song, hardly can believe it's already been so long but I spent a year on it before publishing it. Despite knowing that the chances of it ever reaching a significant audience were miniscule, I absolutely don't regret the learning experience of creating a song by ear, and trying to make it sound as realistic as possible. It's inspired by the 70's and 80's progressive epics that molded my tastes, bands like Pink Floyd and Rush. If anyone wants to hear it, it starts a bit slow but grows in intensity and complexity until the end: ua-cam.com/video/7S7SuOwiBhI/v-deo.html
same here, i guess its just my trust issues tho.
@Official it’s all of the people who say that and then don’t help at all haha
He doesn't have to boast does he. Compared to all these scam advertisers that interrupt your viewing on UA-cam
Was surprised too.
Earned my Sub click and i wanna see his content going backwards and if im happy, I'll buy his pack.
Almost left video after that
As an absolute beginner, I've been watching how to do cords for days, and you just explained it more clearly than all the videos combined, thank you!
Why didn’t I know it was this easy 😭
Also thank you for making this video, it’s an absolute blessing
i have watched about 30-40hrs of other music production tutorials until i found your channel yesterday and subscribed straight away. This video has taught me more about making chords a tune and a bassline to start off music then any of the other 40hrs of content and tutorials I have watched. Thankyou so much and please keep up the amazing content whilst I browse and watch every one of your videos I can!
here i am two years in production and still love this video!
I still need to watch it again I think, he did not really say you need to stay between these keys? I need to check it again I guess
Honestly Alex i love your tutorials. They are very short and straight to the point. Thanks for everything!!!!
I'm a longtime subscriber and this video still blew my mind. I knew of chord counting as a technique, but I never really have dived into it and definitely have no music theory. I would just pick notes and keep them close to each other until I found something that worked. But this is way faster, and the fact that you can transpose them to any key is what really excites me! Lack of music theory has been kinda killing the fun I feel when producing music, but now it's back full swing and I can't wait to start making music again! Thanks bro!
Also I really need to jump on the Splice train lol. Soooo convenient.
Thank you for posting this! At the end I was on the verge of tears seeing what those initial sounds were composed into.
Rare talent in music creation and teaching. Thanks for sharing.
I found your channel accidentally and when you said it was possible to create music without previous musical knowledge (which is my case) I was not very convinced (English is not my home language) until I followed your tutorial and it was great!
Thank you for showing me the beginning.
Good luck with the channel and you already have a new subscriber.
This is soooo great, so great explained and it looks so easy when you do it so quickly. When I do the same, it takes ages (started to produce a few months ago from zero) but learning more and more.
Thank you I was so lost and needed this. You have put the hope back into me.
Like, I could have done this a thousand times already but I was stressed about life in general and I couldn't do shit . Now you brought me back to the light !!!
I gotta say, ive been messing with making music for a while and you defenitely have the most clear and useful tutorials that ive found, keep up the great work👌
Dude, you make me feel little more hopeful and better in music production, thank you so much for this. I just subbed to you today, great work and keep it up! ^_^
I feel like I just made THAT track. Thank you
Definitely one of the best tutorials out there! So easy and straightforward! Thank you very much, Alex!
This is hands down the best video for anyone with no knowledge and getting started!! Thanks a lot Alex. ✨
I just wanna say thank you for sharing this video. I’m new to music and have never been able to get past melodies and lyrics. Chords have always been a huge struggle and I’ve never understood production. This video has helped me SOOO much. Thank you thank you thank you! I feel one step closer to becoming an artist! ❤️
Alex, I love this video and others that you've pup up here in UA-cam. Really appreciate all that you do for the music community.
you honestly helped me so much, I’ve been watching like a lot of your videos and I’m getting better and better thank you so much💜💜
I legitimately started smiling because I only knew a little about music theory, but youve made it so so so much easier dude!
Awesome! All of the other tutorials i tried to follow were way too vague, yours actually thought me how to make it in a simple, easy to follow manner. Thanks for helping me out!
Thank you Alex! My mistake was to picking up the sounds and instruments before having a clear chord, melody and bass' lines! this video helped me understand everything!
Hey man, i really loved how you continued and showed us how to make a beat with the knowledge your just taught. Really makes the lesson hit home. You're AWESOME man!
I have absolutely no music knowledge at all although I enjoy "trying" to make music. Your direction and language was so easy to follow along with and understand. I'm definitely subscribing
My dude you just earned a sub, been looking for this video for years now, the chords were the hardest part for me, thank you so much, will share some music when im settled in!
I have had 13 years of drum/percussion experience, been on tours with aspiring artists I went to highschool with from a small town in Canada, worked with dozens of B-listed old rock n roll Canadian bands well known still to this day, I’m a karaoke guy at a local bar, a tv news reporter for a local news station, wedding and shag dj on the weekends, with lots of other side projects on the go with my parents horse farm as well as other projects. I have so many feelings and ideas I’ve learned on the way, with good guidance on what to do and what not to do in terms of presenting myself and being kind to everyone I talk to. I wanted to put these words out here to tell myself to push through and write my own songs to see if anyone can relate. I haven’t written anything yet but today Saturday May 18th at 11:45 pm is the day that I’m going to finally persue my own vulnerabilities so that others may be able to relate to what I’m feeling. This comment is for myself, I’m going to start working on my own project instead of being behind the scenes of other arrogant artists who only want to make it into Hollywood (that actually is a real thing that makes sense to me).
EPIC! You make it look so easy I was really happy about that, impressed and both compelled to just keep doing the same. Its about having fun with the tracks and enjoying what we do. Much love thanks for sharing!
I keep coming back to this video when I'm too in my head. The absolute best video for production without samples
Wow! I love that positivity of yours! You make me feel like music is all about fun and that I shouldn't be afraid of trying! Thanks man!
Great musician and a great teacher.
thanks I appreciate that (:
Music theory wasn't meant to be a compositional tool. At it's core it's a form of analysis.
Composition is a more intuitive process, and knowing theory won't give you intuition.
That said, oh boy does knowing theory keep you from having to reinvent the wheel! Just sayin...
Yeah, I didn't really know much music theory when I first started making music, things just came naturally. But the stuff that came naturally wasn't enough for me, which is where learning music theory came in handy. I wanted to know how to switch scales, change/enhance feelings, and understand chords. Music theory isn't required but boy does it make composition not only easier, but funner too.
@@DERIVATIVES-mh6ej ^ this and only this.
You rock!!! Everything you said was straight to the point and helpful. Your video definitely gave me some confidence to try making music! Much obliged good sir, keep doin what you do!

This was very inspiring! It's just exactly what I was looking for! I'm into photography and trying videography, and this is where I have to learn sound design and how music is being created overall. And thanks to your video, it is no longer intimidating, and I found my starting point!

As someone who recently has become interested in dabbling in music production, specifically EDM style music, this video had been VERY helpful to me!!! I was in choir in HD but never took music theory, let alone play a piano (that wasn't goofing around), thank you for this information! The end result was dope top and so simple
