got a hiace getting on a boat soon that I'll likely need to do this on. thanks so much for this clear concise video! your hiace content is crucial for those of us in the states seeking info anywhere we can. will likely be doing your low budget lift as well :)
Just got a '96 Hiace! I haven't checked to see if the timing belt has been replaced already but it's just a little over 100K km so it might be due. Thanks for making this video!
I have no clue. My light wasn’t on. I did a quick research and it looks like you have to move a screw on the instrument cluster? I’ll have to take a look at mine when I have chance and maybe make a video on it.
Great video! I'm buying a Prado with the 1KZ at the end of the week, not happy about trusting a 13 year old timing belt on the ~4 hour drive home. If this is all it is, I'll do it in a nearby parking lot........
Thanks for video! I have a ‘96 KZH100 that just reached 100,000km. Do you recommend changing the ac belt and the alternator belt along with the water pump when changing the timing belt or is that overkill?
A good thing about this engine is the water pump is not driven by the timing belt and the water pumps don’t have a reputation for leaking prematurely. If your accessory belts look good I wouldn’t necessarily replace them. It would be wise to purchase a couple to throw in your tool bag in the event one did break. I was in the same boat as you - trying to decide if I should replace these parts. I only replaced the timing belt components and have slept like a baby since. Something else to consider. If you have knowledge that your van sat immobile for years in a harsh environment, then it would probably be wise to replace the water pump and belts, too.
very cool, straight forward - did not know it was right in front....

Awesome! Glad I could help. I’m trying to get more content together so stay tuned!

Great video. Do you happen to know how to turn off the timing belt light in the dashboard?

Nice!! I was thinking that I needed a vid for encouragement!!! I have 2 townace’s
You got this! But townace should have a different engine so procedure will be similar but different
Super Helpful! May I ask which website or where you got the 3 OEM parts?
I actually bought it off of eBay. Vanlife Northwest sell the parts. You can also buy them from amayama.com but it will come directly from Japan.
@@realtoyotology Awesome, Thank you!
@@JOELISGONZALEZ-nt6cm Amayama treated me well. Incredibly reasonable prices and shipping. It does take a couple weeks.
Alternator is so difficult
Timing belt easier.
