  • First run of a Aster GWR Pannier Tank loco after fitting a new two wick burner, a smaller pressure gauge and sharpening the regulator needle tip down to an 40° angle which did improve the speed adjustment slightly. Enjoy!

Excellent film of twin burners and smaller pressure gauge.

Glad you like it. I hope you have enjoyed the rest of the video, too :-) I guess the flimsy cab roof will be replaced as well and the unsightly roof hinge hidden behind a high whistle shield (some o fthe 57xx Panniers were fitted with those)

Yes I liked all of the film. Yes that hinge does look like an afterthought by Aster. Will the new roof tilt the same way? Lift off? Or tilt sideways?

I will most probably make it completely detachable

The hinge's gone completely an the roof is now simply sticked on the cab. After closing the gap caused by the removed hinge, the cab front was repainted with an exactly matching paint (mixed by a local paint dealer for a modest sum). You wouldn't see any difference against the cab sides.

Did you cap the 3rd wick? Mine seems to run either very fast or not at all.

Hi Carl, I made an all new two wick burner and put the original burner aside. I made good experience with less wicks allowing a freer airflow to the wicks. The steaming is usually improved by this. I sometimes also adjust the blast pipe diameter to fine tune the steaming rate of the boiler. Smaller exhaust nozzles will slow down the model by generating a counter pressure in the exhaust system.

Yes that is what I did with my ROD Robinson 04 class 2-8-0.
