Terence McKenna and others were talking about it before but I was surprised to hear Joe mention memes in their true etymological and definitive context. Joe’s voice changed a lot since 31 but you can really tell how bright and confident he was.I think Adam probably felt a bit of competition with Joe making smart points and ALSO being a comedian with the assumptions that come with that. Just a hunch but great episode. One for the history books.
I think you’re reading into it a bit too much boss they had a good time yuckin it up like some buddies didn’t get much of a competition sense personally
@@forehandburrito I like reading into these old episodes. It entertaining to me trying to see through the persona/entertainer of Adam vs who he was between the lines. Also these pre 2000 episodes from 1999 I think are the golden era of Loveline and love thinking about popular culture discussed in the show at the time to make a sort of time capsule out of it and remember what life was like. Loveline is one of my favorite shows of all time. Only radio show I ever actually tuned into on an old pocket radio before MP3 players and smart phones. I remember being bummed falling asleep on weekends at night when they had some electronic music show playing rather than Loveline on weeknights. It was like a podcast to me before podcast existed in the sense I never missed an episode and new exactly when to tune in. I suppose all radio was like that but I’m basically saying this show is gold and full of memories to me. I could be wrong about my assumptions but it’s history now and just a late night muse and slice of entertainment for me to fall asleep to now.
We should form a club. Everything you said resonated with me, it does all those things for me as well, only difference in my story is that I never knew Loveline existed, and I hate that fact. I would have loved this if I knew it was happened just a flip of a switch and turn of the dial to experience this!? And even worse, there will never be another one. This show wouldn't happen today, kids dont tune in to radio nor do the even have LAN lines lol. That world, the 99s and 00s, came and went so fast... *deep sigh* bitter sweet nostalgia, it's all gone forever, but this is a real slice of the times. Wish someone would make an awesome loveline movie or show based off of the tapes. Show Drew and Adam and their life coming together at the studio, give the callers faces and homes, paint their many many pictures, it would be a goldmine of great scenes and material. And Drew and Adam's lives have been pretty interesting and would be worth writing about.

16:41 He's talking about Bryan Callen here. This girl he's talking about is the chick that was on Survivor back in the day, she later revealed on Howard Stern she got mad at both Joe and Bryan because Bryan came inside of her without asking. Weird, wild stuff.
Just going through all the 1999 episodes of Loveline and crazy to stumble on a Joe Rogan episode from decades before the podcast and where he is today. Seems like lifetimes ago.

It’s fun hearing this old Joe. His current podcast is so great that it’s nice to hear how he stuck with it and found a way to do what he wanted. And although he gets criticized for his current show, he’s clearly doing what he loves and he’s making entertaining radio all the way.

Joe sounds good on the mic. He should start a podcast or be a stand-up comedian or something. Both if possible, why not?
