as a fan of Day6, they've never really been known for having the best instrument-work as a band. It's mainly because they were never meant to be one? They were training to be kpop idols and when the company thought it was best to form a band around Sungjin, some of the others (including Sungjin) had to learn instruments to be in the band. They also had to learn how to write songs just to debut so that might also be a factor as to why their music might be "simpler." Their main charm as a band is their relatable lyrics and nice vocal melodies especially because for most of their career, they had 4 genuinely great vocalists who had such different vocal tones from each other. Though as their career progressed while gaining more experience with their instruments, I feel like they got more confidence in their playing and some of their later songs become a bit more interesting. But the main thing they will always focus on is their vocal work and lyrical relatability.
That’s so interesting that they were made to learn the instruments once the idea for their direction changed. In that case they deserve major props, especially considering how far they’ve come.
@@ohacade408 Guitarist Sungjin, whose voice you said you liked the most, apparently was so bad in dancing, even with months and years of idol training, that JYP had a crisis because they refused to lose such a vocalist. So they ended up forming a band to be with him, while the better dancers ended up debuting as idol group Got7.
just a little bit of correction tho, Sungjin was the only one who had to learn the instrument after day6 was formed or maybe Young K had to learn bass too but he already played the guitar prior to joining day6 and he was also the lead guitarist until Jae came in so he had to learn bass but in comparison to Sungjin who had zero knowledge about instruments, he had it easier. The rest of the members although came in as an idol trainee all knew how to play the instruments already. If anything I wouldn't say they learned the instruments to be in a band but rather, they had to practice it so they could play in a more professional level.
You are spot on around 5:30, the glasses guy is jae (lead guitarist) departed 2021 and junhyeok (pianist) departed 2016. When junhyeok left wonpil got assigned both synthesizer and the piano roles.
Thank you for doing another reaction to Day6! As many people from your previous video must have pointed out their comeback has been very long awaited so it’s really nice to see people taking an interest in them. I know it was voted lower on the poll, but I’d really love to see you react to the “I’ll Try” live clip. It’s in my opinion one of their most beautiful songs, musically and vocally. Also, if you’d like to watch something that centres the members a bit more, I recommend their “Hi Hello” music video. I wouldn’t say it’s their most groundbreaking song but it’s very pleasant and the music video is really sweet. It’s a personal favourite of mine and was the MV that got me into the band. I think it’ll help you learn their faces a lot quicker too ^^
At this time there wasn’t many Kpop bands. From what I remember it was Ft.Island, CNBLUE, Led apple, and Lunafly. These bands only have one or two main vocalist compared to Day6 who had 5 main vocalist at time of debut. As someone who has been following Day6 pre debut what caught my attention was their vocals and lyrics. They are lyrics you can relate to and easy to understand like you mentioned. They have lyrics for every occasion. They experiment with their music later in their career. I hope you keep reacting to their full discography.
I'm pretty sure there were already a lot of bands in Korea but there were only a few idol bands. But you were right, day6 was the first band to have all 5 members as main vocals at that time hence gaining so much attention from non-fans.
A lot of their music videos are story-based so just a little heads up! Congratulations is so special because of the lyrics and the music video (featuring Choi Woosik who was in parasite) and the storyline continues from the woman’s perspective in You Were Beautiful. A lot of their music videos feature actors that are already established or have since established themselves since being in the music video which is always nice to see!
Day6 are generally known for their heartbreaking ballad songs with simpler instrumentals so you'd notice most of their more popular title tracks are within those genre but ofc not all of their title tracks are like that. They do have some hard hitting ones and some on the brighter side. I feel like when it comes to day6, the thing that most casual listeners would think of when thinking about them is their vocals. Though if you want to hear more of their songs with a more unique instrumentals then I really suggest their bside songs especially in their "The book of us: the demon" and "The book of us: entropy" albums. They have some of the most diverse music I've heard in kpop. They have over a hundred songs which are all composed and written by them. Also just want to let you know just incase you might think why they keep on having the heartbreaking ballads as their title tracks. It's because they have this system in JYP in which the call the "confirmation system" in which the staffs and jyp himself will listen to the songs the members submitted and it is it's up to them to decide which songs they're gonna approve on the album and as title track. So even though they have 100% hands on their songs, they still can't really decide freely which songs they can release on their album because it's all up to the company. The members have mentioned a couple of times how there are some unreleased songs that they really like and would love to release but just can't because jyp won't approve it. Even some demos Young K has released (songs he made for day6 but jyp did not approve of so he just released his demos as gift for fans) are better than SOME of the songs that were actually included on their albums. I wish Jyp would stop on pushing their "heartbreaker ballad songs" as title tracks cuz as much as I love those songs too, but it can get a bit tiring and boring considering how much they already have those types of songs as title tracks. It irks me whenever interviewers would tell them about how they're known for their heartbreaking songs and like in my mind, they actually have other songs than those that are positive, inspirational, boastful and some can even get slutty lol but all they know are their heartbreaking songs. They have so many great and unique songs on their albums but sadly some people won't even know about it unless they're actual fans.
Hi.. I enjoyed listening to this with you!! I have loved this song since the first time I heard it.. My friend was actually a fan of them and decided to show me this MV around the time of their first concert. I immediately fell in love with the song mostly because of how sarcastic it is, especially Young K's rap part.. Haha.. I think knowing korean language might be why I feel the delivery and rhythm of the song is so interesting. It feels like watching a 'dissing' from the male lead. I might also relate more to this song because I really hate being ghosted. It is just so frustrating. So this is one of my go-to songs during karaoke to relieve stress. 😆 The male lead in this MV (not a Day6 member) is a popular actor named Choi Woo Shik. He is one of the lead actors in popular movies such as 'Train to Busan' and 'Parasite'. 😁
Pretty sure others already pointed out previous members as well as the actors. Another fun fact I'd like to add as that they were universal with their instruments and some shows [not OT6, but with 5 of them] they've done they've performed with switched instruments. There's a few videos posted with the amount of instruments each member knows as well as switched instrument performance. Hope to see those reactions!

Thankyou for reacting to Day6! I’m glad you’re enjoying their music as much as us fans! Some songs for you to react to are “Dance, Dance”, (not featured in the killing voice) and “I’m Serious” (was featured). Looking forward to more of your reactions to them. Subscribed just now, too 🥹🤍
13:59 oh wow finally someone who doesn't want characters in an MV, I have the same problem with day6 MVs where they have some sort of story going on with actors who aren't part of the band, including their latest MV. I'd rather that they give all that screen time to the members themselves. (like the "I Wait" MV which I think might be a song you'll enjoy) But I guess the agency thinks otherwise that seeing the members just play and sing will be boring for people or they can't convey the message of the song, whatever the reason is, I hope they will understand someday that it really takes away from the actual artists playing the song. And if they want to do a story I'd rather they have the members play the roles than other actors. (they did that once in a trilogy of songs and it was interesting to see that as a fan)
Loving your DAY6 reaction! If you want to see DAY6 in a more dynamic instrumental play, you should definitely check out their japanese title tracks like Stop the Rain, If and Breaking Down. Since the japanese tends to lean more into that hard rock kind of song, so DAY6 really shows more on their dynamic instrumental play there.

Yeah, the guy acting alongside the girl is not part of the band, he's actually an actor, Choi Woo Shik 🙂

Your favourite guy, Sungjin is my bias. Kinda wish you will focus on the lyrics as well.
