I'm not from an English speaking country and we don't have this culture but can someone explain to me why dreadlocks or braids, I'm not sure how to properly call it, but why is it offensive? I really don't understand
To put it simply, to some people, dreadlocks are seen as an eyesore because of the way the hair is styled and presented whereas in some cultures, it is a tradition connected to spirituality. Therefore to some individuals, a brown skinned person with dreadlocks is categorised as violent and aggressive which is not the case. Dreadlocks are a protective hair style that us as brown skinned people do to maintain our hair texture, hair line and promote growth, for worship. It has nothing to do with the negative stereotype that people who do not understand our culture portray it as. It is also a part of the Rastafarian movement as its followers connect to Jah Jah ( Lord God) through dreadlocks. # As civilised human beings, let us not belittle or play around with other people's culture and beliefs just because one feels like doing so.
