Robert H. Treman State Park - Gorge Trail Hike | New York

Welcome to another hiking adventure. Today we will be exploring the Gorge Trail located at Robert. H Treman State Park. Located in Tompkins County within the Finger Lakes Region of New York, The park has become famous over the years for its vast gorges, dense forests and large waterfalls such as -the 115ft. Lucifer Falls, the highlight of this adventure. Robert Henry Treman purchased land in 1915 which encompassed Enfield Falls. He then worked tirelessly to populate the forest by planting over 1,000 trees. He eventually donated the park to New York state in 1920 which led to the creation of Enfield Glen State Park. In 1937 the park was renamed after Robert H. Treman himself following his untimely death.
The Gorge trail is approximately 2.25 miles long with an elevation gain of over 400 feet, and may be a challenge for inexperienced hikers, which is why I recommend bringing plenty of water with you. Enfield Creek flows through this 1,110 acre park eventually leading to Enfield Glen where our journey will conclude. Along the way you will notice how drastic the terrain changes from moderately sloped hills to extremely wide gorges offering beautiful photo opportunities for tourists. The park also features a Rim Trail, Red Pine Trail and Old Mill to explore. Hike through thick forests high above the gorge on the Rim Trail and enjoy panoramic views of Lucifer Falls and the wooded canyon it spills into. The Red Pine Trail bypasses the upper gorge through a stand of old-growth pine trees. In the upper park, visit the Old Mill which harnessed the power of water to grind wheat for local farmers in the 1800s. Although we did not make it to the lower falls on this adventure, it is a very popular swimming destination within the park.

Yes you have to my friend you will love it! There is also a parking lot at the top of the falls near the Old Cabin if you want to skip the uphill part of the hike. Thank you for watching 😁
