- I have my FIRST DRIVE in this 240bhp Clio RS, and my initial thoughts were correct...it's a baby A45 AMG! This car has an RS Tuning Stage 2 package, which is pushing out nearly 250hp. Even with a less power than most hot hatches, it is genuinely one of the most fun I've driven so far! Can't stop thinking how awesome a track spec one would be...

Try a 220 Trophy. It's kinda the best option, you don't need to mod it, Renault tuned it perfectly to be able to pull the power down all the time, even at launch. And best thing is ph2 you can even get them used still under waranty!
Was it always too loud, or is it just when you're giving it some gas?
I like the way the more modern Clios look but it's a shame they got rid of the manual, probably would have got them a lot more recognition if they'd kept it. Brand snobs will turn their nose up, but they're the people that don't realise that Renault and Peugeot have made the majority of the most iconic hot hatches of all time

@@markrhoden68 I personally couldn't give a toss about the Merc's, or the rest of german hot hatches tbh. They look amazing, but not as good as the Renaults. I'm a Renault fanboy and I'd definitely choose one of these over any of the German rivals any day. However, I do love those Audi RS Estates. Those things are beautiful.

@@CiroDiMaRzio12304No. The 7DCT300 is exactly the same in all brands. The software of the gearbox is different. This gearbox is in some Mercedes, BMW, Mini, Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia and Ford. The Hybrid version with a mounting flange for a electric motor is called 7HDCT300.
I can't wait for having mine, a 220trophy fase 2, test drove lots of cars and this was by far the most fun.
I don't get the 'should have made a manual version' shouts. if you can't afford/don't want to pay for a Golf R/M140i etc (and hardly anyone buys those in manual), then these are a perfect alternative. at legal speeds, the RS is also more fun on the twistys imo.

I owned a 220 Trophy for 2 years and thought it was awesome. I really have no idea why they got such bad press. I have a Cupra 290 now and in terms of how fun they are to drive and engagement I really don't think the Cupra is any better.
@iNSTAGiB Hi! I've had one of these over the last few days and in all honesty it's a really good daily, I drive about 9ish miles to work and it's a combination of different types of roads (like A's, B's and a dual carriageway for a mile or so) and it does average around 43mpg. I bought the car from London and had to drive to west Wales which was about 245 miles and it took around 5½ hours with all the stops and I used around ¾ of a tank from full!
Keeping the car in auto mode is a bit annoying sometimes as it has a habit of bringing the revs up to 3.5k for a few seconds when going up a slight hill.
The car stock has got a good power to get going up to 70mph. I've gone from a MK5 1 litre which averaged about the same because I spent most of the time trying to floor it up to the speed limit most of the time.
I'd definitely rate this car as something that can be quite economic for the most part, but when the fuel gauge goes under half it definitely feels as if its slurping through fuel. So far on a full tank being economic it says it will do around 340 miles to a tank? No idea how accurate that is though because I drive like a knob quite a bit 😂

Great drivers cars. I’ve driven a Clio Trophy and I own a R26 that I track often. Try a R26R if you can that is a very special car.

I've have always loved Renault's hot hatchs.
my brother has a rs 200 but modded with a airtec intercooler. full miltek exhaust, intake and remap.. great car. simply amazing around corners, yes the interior may not be the best quality and there is some noise comming from the suspension component's (known isseu) but if you can live with that. great car. shoud have been available as an manual tho..

My missus had one oh these got it through her work ,it never went over 70 ,utility it started coughing n spluttering up at certain rev range ,my mate told her it needed a good kicking , keys where handed over I jumped in , holy ,,,, after he hit the throttle and it coughed spluttered for a while it put me in the bck oh the seat ,what a car ,

Everyone turns their nose up when they hear the Mk4 Clio has an EDC (Renaults equivalent of DSG!) but honestly it offers a completely different level of fun and engagement. It’s so responsive and intuitive that you can focus on SPANKING the car and not have to do arm-things mid corner to change gear 😂😍
Have a 172 ph1, its amazing and raw.. love the 197 as well. now i'm thinking about the new hyundai i20n which will come with a manual, 200hp and and lsd.. the clio 4 rs is just out of the equation because of the auto

Why do you regret putting a downpipe?? I got a downpipe and a res delete, map this month. It sounds insanely good.
@@dreaded6623 I regretted taking it to the guy i took it to. He did a terrible job. I rate the res delete will give me the deeper tone and crackles I'm looking for.

@@aoncgn2431 the TCe family engine (1.6 M5M, 1.2 H5FT and 0.9 H4B) were engineered with nissan.
@@aoncgn2431 i got the 1.2 H5FT with manual gear box (because i love manual) and this small engine is very fun to drive! Especially into mountain roads 😍
I’d like to put on more horsepower because 118 aren’t enough.
Always liked these. Great alternative to a Fiesta ST, especially if you want sommat much more exclusive and enjoy using flappy-paddles. They also don’t seem to have any real common issues either, as a lot of it is Nissan. The bad press and reviews killed them off.
I’ve had it for two and a half years and can’t name a single issue I’ve had. No recalls, not even a windscreen wiper stopping working, it hasn’t skipped a beat!
@@Bitofpizza could see myself buying one, one day. I’ve got a Cupra 290 and it’s mad fast but it’s not got that fun factor that sommat like this has. Your channel is sick btw!
@@samculpan891 Thanks mate! The Cupra 290 is QUICK!! But I think the AWD German cars are too numb to enjoy, something like the Clio with its qwerks and imperfections makes it so fun 🙏🏻
@@Bitofpizza yeah it’s rapid, even with standard power. FWD makes it more fun but it still feels very typical VAG. Makes a great fast daily though. Nearly got a Megane 280 instead.
@@samculpan891 the meganes nice I tested the 300 trophy before buying my current i30N. I owned a 270 cup megane and they are fantastic but made the switch to a Golf R mk7, quick car but dull. It was a tough choice between the trophy and the i30N and I'd still like another RS megane at some point. Nice Clio you've got there and ideal on tight roads that Megane RS is pretty wide now
Very late comment. I’m thinking about straight piping my Clio (same from the primary cat) and was wondering if the noise is too outlandish? Like would it be a pain to daily drive this. Essentially, is it obnoxiously loud even in the low rev range.

@@Astro-ol8mw yes I did, with stock diameter. I did a centre resonator and muffler delete. It isn’t too loud and and certainly not obnoxious and the exhaust note is actual very very nice.

Its not always been 1.6 turbo 172 182 and 197 all use to 2.0 natural engines no turbo. Due to emissions regulations Renault had to tone them down to 1.6 but to get the power back up slap a turbo on. Wasnt happy but thats life. If they had kept it 2.0ltr slapped turbo on power output would been well over 250bhp and very high torque. K-tech racing in Devon do £10k turbo conversion for them.
Paddle shifter doesn't seem to react as fast as in the Megane 4RS ....
How do straight piped cars pass MOT?

The trophy had the updated edc gearbox the original was a tad slow apparently..
I think it's just a software change and you can get it updated on the older models.
@@terminator4652 nah i heard some same story's the phase 1 was known for errors in the gearbox the phase 2 has upgraded gearbox and software.

Iv been umming and ahhring about getting one of these clio sports for about 2 years. Just all the horror stories you hear about renault reliability issues that you hear is stopping me getting one.

Wonderful car, so much fun i had with mine 200edc phase 1. what’s the 0-100km/h with 240hp? Stock is something like 6.7s 🙄
I've clocked my RS trophy at 5.6 0-62, but its at 260+bhp. Really decent time considering its not made to go fast in a straight line
It’s not Vbox verified by any means but the built in timer on the car’s infotainment clocked a 5.7
@@Bitofpizza i clocked my 5.6 on a draggy, unsure how accurate that is compared to a vbox of course but its anywhere from 5.6-5.8 mapped by the looks of things

I have one they are ok around town if you travel distance they are kinda horrible after a while. I think they are too high

I don't really get the constant comparison to an A45 there hardly comparable. A new A45 can set you back nearly 60k even the best specced trophy new would be sub 25k. Having owned 2 they are great little cars. I'd love to see a review without that comparison to a car that it is nothing like. Maybe a comparison to other hot hatches that were on sale at the same time and in a similar price range. Mk7 fiesta st, 208 gti, jcw mini and polo gti.

This shits on a fiesta st standard. Standard its a powerful quick little car, theres a drag video standard fiesta vs a standard one of these and it leaves it for dead.

New gen interior is marginally better, the way the screen sticks up is weird but I can see the appeal.

Seria muito bom se no Brasil tivesse essa versão esportiva, tanto 1.6 turbo, 1.6 ou 2.0 R.S, o que temos no mercado brasileiro é apenas o "clio comum 1.0" que não chega nem perto desse modelo forte e bonito, acredito que se não fossem os covardes políticos corruptos que temos nessa nação com tantos aumentos de impostos/taxas, estaríamos com modelos de carros mais interessantes assim como é no mercado europeu, sou dono de um clio 2015/2016 e tive que fazer diversas melhorias no design dele pra ficar um pouco próximo do design esportivo europeu e obviamente não fiz nada em relação ao motor fraco 1.0, pois ficaria muito caro pra mudar tantos detalhes e ter finalmente um hatch esportivo forte e bonito.
E o clio que a gente tem aqui foi descontinuado há um bom tempo, hoje substituído pelo sandero, que é da dacia...

Renault Sport is on another level compared to their standard vehicles. Drive one if you can, or buy a Clio 197 they’re relatively affordable

Just buy a clio 197/200 with manual its way more fun, also capable of megane rs engine swap so you can get a clio 197 with 350 hp

Wrong wrong wrong, it's a clio rs trophy, standaard of has 220 bhp not 200, straight pipe airfilter both ads about 10 bhp. I know becouse i've tot one. Still lots of fun.
You'd be right normally but in this case the owner had a standard 200hp RS got a remap yielding +40hp and had the trophy decal added. Great cars looking forward to modding my 220 trophy in the near future 👌🏻
