I’ve been buying a lot of their surplus stuff. A bit hit and miss, as with any surplus stuff, but their descriptions are pretty accurate. Most of the German surplus is amazing for the price. The German army gloves, and parka (when in stock) are great. I haven’t been able to afford the Sarma stuff yet, but this jacket may make my Xmas gift list.

Excellent! Would love to see you do a review of their Sarma Lukha - their short poncho. Beautifully simple to sling on over the top of whatever fleecy/wooly thing you're wearing.

I have the grey one. It's great, though the zippers on the upper arms do let cold wind through (so it's not great when cycling to work in winter), but the fabric keeps you warm enough. This jacket was the first time ever that I went outside in winter and somehow felt neither warm nor cold. It was a very funny experience.
Be aware that the main zipper is a point of failure; I wore out the plastic bit on the bottom (which meant that it became increasingly difficult to get the zipper to engage and close up), and had to have the zipper replaced by a tailor.
Also: wash it at least once. Otherwise, the first downpour you get stuck in will soak the jacket and bleed colour into your underclothing. I managed to ruin a dress shirt with the blueish dye they use for the grey jacket by not doing this and wearing it while walking the dog in the rain.
Edit: My only real problem with this jacket is that it has a hood. I hate hoods. I never wear them, they pull the collar back into your throat and they get in the way. I really wish it was removable. Oh well. Price is fine. I've had mine for over two years now (hence the zipper wearing out).

I'm a huge fan of woolen clothing, and this jacket is kinda nice, but to me it's overbuilt and underbuilt for me.
Nix the silly shoulder pockets/zippers. nd the armpit venting zippers.
The hood would be nice with an ample bill for folks with glasses, and removeable.
Nice ya found something ya like.

Looks smart. Be good to hear your views on it in a month or too.
You tried theRussian Gorka4 Mountain suit, mate?
It looks very similar, but looks like a more ‘ventile’ material and a wool liner, (but don’t quote me on it).

@@RedBranchBushcraft I've experienced this issue before with several Finnish suppliers. For example, I was interested in a particular backpack some time ago but, apart from having to negotiate about a price, due to exchange rates and VAT etc, there was the issue of what amounts to import duties. That means HM Revenue & Customs getting in on the act, at least for mainland UK purchasers. This has led to me not pursuing my interest in Finnish gear as advertised by Finnish outlets as I really don't need HMRC in my life! It's a shame but there you go, without UK importers for this kind of stuff you have negotiate the murky waters of government bodies if you want to get hold of it. I'll have to pass.
