It's never too late Marcus, I was sort of like you. My parents came from the Philippines, migrated to Hawaii whare I was born, I watched in secret in the evening when my father and Godfather played or practiced. Because I wasn't allowed to watched. It was at age 12 when father thought me a few lesson but when I used it in a fight, ( it was self defense, I was being bullied) he never told me what the art was but I clearly remember the moves, my father stopped teaching me.
By age 40 I tried to trace my father's roots I landed here now in the Philippines and still learning the art (and with a family here now of course) 😊.
      Find your roots my friend.

My late grandfather was a guerilla during World War 2. He told us his story about the war and the guerillas. He was 15 when he joined the guerillas. Not only they were masters in martial arts, they were also masters in magic. He witnessed that their two commanders were repeatedly fired shot by the Japanese soldiers but still alive. The bullets were just like muds when landed to their bodies. Those were ones of the unrecorded events during the war.

oddly enough, in terms of the long bladed weapons, the PKT moveset is even more devastating when you're running it with a typical sundang/itak/tip bolo as the weight is more concentrated near the edge which gives a more powerful swing but its probably slightly slowing down the user compared to something like a pinuti or the graceful looking ginunting which is balanced in all aspects.

They have a tendency to use footwork that is very similar to what you see freestyle wrestlers uses. One foot forward, with body crouching forward and low.

This fighting style is meant to be learn from a young age to be very effective and precise. Same for all type of system and even sports like boxing. Pacquiao trained to be a boxer since maybe 6 but formally train as a boxer later. Longevity of training makes you stronger not the fighting style itself.

Wear pads so that you won't hesitate when you hit.
I need to see how the thrusts work. No one is doing it in sparrings. I have yet to see thrusts in actual combat. At the very least I saw some here.
Ironically, it is the one that kills in real life but no one is showing it much.
Do you have any participant in this year's SEA Games?
