I switched to C1 a few years ago purely because they allowed me to buy a lifetime license instead of forcing me to pay a subscription every month, and as I got used to the program over the next few weeks, I realized how incredibly flexible and powerful it was. There were all sorts of benefits, like the superior handling of noise in Fujifilm raw files, interface customization, file handling, etc. Additionally, I use the tethered shooting for studio work and it's an absolute dream just to have the picture pop up on a giant monitor as soon as the shutter fires. It's great for me to be able to look for little details, and for the person behind the camera to be confident in how the images are coming out so they don't have to "take my word for it." Glad to see they've partnered up with you, your channel is a goldmine for Fujifilm users!

What has happened to your Capture 1 tutorials?
I used Lightroom from it’s beginning but moved in to Capture 1 about six years ago.
I recently took Lightroom off my PC.
You are excellent in your videos and my number one source on all things Fujifilm.
Thanks for all that you do.

Boy, I'm happy you are picking up the Capture One topic! I've been dragged into it by the free Capture One Express license that came with my X-S10 and recently I decided to upgrade to the Pro license. I have a lot to learn and I am looking forward to your Capture One videos. Please don't ignore the C1 Express, as it still has a lot to offer.

Congratulations on the sponsorship. I've found all your Fuji advice very useful since I first bought into their system. It might have been yourself who recommended the Capture One for Fujifilm, which I obtained. After a fair trial I bought the full Pro version and use it all the time. I tend to stick with what I know but I realise there's a lot I've not yet discovered and I'm sure your videos will encourage me to experiment and learn more.

Chris, I’m so glad you are taking this project on! I’ve used Capture One, have 22, and yes it’s way easier to use. That said, I think you’re the perfect person to act as a guide through the software. Their tutorials and webinars are great, but they don’t hold my hand enough. So that said, the energy you’ll bring to the community is great and serve as a perfect complement to their current collection of support videos. I’m very much looking forward to the series. ❤

I have used Capture One for a few years after coming from Lightroom. I really like Capture One, and I like not having to deal with sidecar files. In the beginning, the most significant selling point for me was the masking feature. I use the catalog feature though I did try sessions; it was easier to learn new software by staying with the catalog format because of LR.
I look forward to your upcoming videos on using C1P; Chris, your attention to detail will make us pro-users of this excellent software editing tool in no time!

I am very much looking forward to your lessons with Capture One. I have had Capture One for some years now, and really haven't dove into it much. It's been rather daunting for me, I haven't made much headway with a workflow so I'm kinda just rattling around in it. I absolutely abhor the "subscription" format Adobe has forced upon us and have been trying several of the different options around now. Love your content - all of it, and the enthusiasm you bring to the table.

I'm fairly new to photo editing. After using another program, not Photoshop, I recently switched to Capture One. I knew within two hours of my thirty day trial that it was far superior to what I had been using. For a relative rookie I found the learning curve to be fairly flat. It's very easy to use and I'm still learning new features all the time. I'm impressed with how much it has helped me in my journey to improve my editing. I'm excited to see your new tutorials which is something I've been looking for as I find the ones presently on UA-cam to be hit or miss. Thanks.

@user-on8gd3rc3o Affinity. I could never get it to work properly even after getting a newer, more powerful computer. Totally frustrating to use. As an update, I dropped Capture One this last spring as well for Lightroom Classic. C1 worked well but I feel that LRC is much easier to use, is more intuitive, and produces superior results. Maybe I've just gotten better at editing but when I switched I almost immediately saw a dramatic improvement. Others have mentioned it also. The other thing is that there really aren't many tutorials for C1 whereas for LRC there are hundreds, if not thousands, of them from many sources that all have a little different take on editing. I find that I can pick and choose what I like and what I don't.

Great you eventually do C1 video. I have used it for 2 years and I only start to manage it recently. I will follow your videos. I am also a Fuji (X-T3) user. C1 was really a game changer for me, my photos enter in a total different dimension. I don't need to upgrade my camera or get a new lens : the next step for a photographer is a good PC and C1 !

Great video Chris and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. A big thank you to Capture One too for the sensible way in which they treated those of us who used to subscribe to the manufacturer specific versions of Capture One that used to exist - in my case Capture One for Fujifilm. When they scrapped the manufacturer specific versions and moved to just the Pro version, they carried across your subscription agreement from the manufacturer specific versions to pro at no extra cost as long as you did not cancel your subscription and restart it. In my mind that was an honourable and considerate thing to do and it has maintained my loyalty.

    THANKS Chris!!
    Capture One suggestions:
Catalogues are nice but putting all eggs in one basket bothers me.
Default action could be “new session”. (Preferences)
    1. Automatically create session with catalogue: That way, if catalogue becomes corrupt, you haven’t lost everything. Catalogue would be auto-updated when session updates.
    OR
    2. Add session(s) to catalogue:
Checkbox when creating session. Also add "scan disk for/ import sessions"
2a. Remove session from catalogue (that affair you had in Denver)
    3. Find missing session (much like Lightroom) so if you move a folder to another location you can simply point to it.
Bottom line: EVERY folder contains a session DB that can also be read into a catalogue.

I'm so excited that you have this partnership with C1. I've been using C1 2021 but was just thinking of moving over to LR because there are so few UA-camrs that use C1 and use Fuji. I upgraded to this 22 version just a few days ago. It's great and a little easier to use than previous versions. I purchased the upgrade mainly for the new HDR option to merge multiple bracketed raw files. It's the best photo editing software I've used for Fuji cameras and has brought new life to some of my older Nikon photos.

I've moved from Lr to C1 for already 3 years, and I really love to use session with customize workspace. Not to mention my favorite tools are layer editing, dehazing and the most favorite tools is Grain setting, really blowing my mind, since I shot a lot of photo on film. I've seen C1 keeping improve their software, especially the new version with HDR Stacking and Panorama Stitching.

"Sessions" are a great idea. Like any database a catalogue works fine at the beginning but gives you headaches after some years. Now if you have been using Lightroom for years like I have, Capture One can import your catalogue, no problem. But it would take lot of work to reorganise it into sessions. I will use sessions going forward and stick to my old catalogue for my older pictures for now...

Congratulations on the sponsorship. I am glad they finally integrated Fuji into their system and not have purchase additional software just to get Fuji's to work with C1. tried C1 years go and went back to Adobe. I am not a fan of Adobe however, they priced their products to be competitive. Getting multiple apps for subscription of $24.00 a month from Adobe is a better cost savings than subscribing to a single app for $24.00 a month. I'll jump in a heat beat when C1 starts bundling as Adobe has.

Capture One is amazing. I used it for years when I was running a web design gallery. I used to spend 1-2 hours each day preparing large screenshot files - until I found Capture One. I cut my time down to 20 minutes with their preset features. I was able to auto-name the files in the sequence of my choice, resize to the correct dimensions, crop and position, and save the files with the click of one button after I set it up for the first time. 💯

Struggling w C1 on a slow Macbook Pro from 2013 I went back to Lightroom having high hopes and ….wow what a piece of c*p software. Not at all how I remembered it. Now with v 22 and an M1 Macbook Air I find the customization and flexibility to be soooooo superior to LR. I had this idea in my head that the LR workflow was better but boy was I wrong! All this time learning C1 had «unlearned» my old habits and opened my eyes to a different way of working. Now if C1 could handle my large catalogue, everything would be perfect! Maybe I need to start using sessions? Looking forward to your insightful and entertaining series 👍

I am a relatively new photographer, but I made the decision to go with Capture One from the beginning. One of the things I love about C1 is that when shooting in RAW, the RAW image in C1 is automatically displayed with the film simulation I chose on the camera. I still have the flexibility to choose another film simulation.
There is one area that needs improvement, and another that needs to be implemented. The HDR Bracketing, or Merge to HDR needs to have some control over the process. The default implementation is not always very good. The ability to Focus Stack would be very nice. It seems that best software for that is still Photoshop, but I don't want to pay for the Adobe Universe when Capture One is so close to doing everything!
I am really looking forward to your thoughts and and best practices for C1, especially when it comes to workflow. It is often overwhelming when I come home with over 4000 photos from my granddaughter's softball games!

Thanks for this, even though the official capture one videos are extremely informative they do lack a little seasoning/sparkle, plus being an old timer going from film to digital has meant 90% jpeg for me, so your style of presentation suits me perfectly; as a fuji shooter I should have subscribed years ago, looking forward to checking out everything I've missed. Congratulations on the new sponsorship. I bought CO20 for the click through file selections and (I think 21) for the Nikon curve integration and speed edits. I'm completely satisfied with 21, which works well. However, I'm not getting 22 for improved icons. I'm going to upgrade my version ONLY when they integrate the ability to create custom camera color profiles using X-rite software or similar. Using that feature with Adobe Light Room 6, it was easy to achieve excellent color balance with any camera and keep it consistent from photo to print with many different cameras. Now, the objection would be that there is a way to do that with COone. Well, I tried and it just doesn't work. It makes little difference and it doesn't produce consistent results.

I use the catalog workflow in Capture One, because I want to store my photos on my NAS only, and not (also) on my PC. I'm not a professional photographer working on client projects, and I don't do photo editing while travelling/on location, so I have no need for the session workflow.

It is my first mirrorless camera and I love it even if I am not video shooter. I also bought a few fuji lenses, the 16mm, the 16-55mm, the 50-150mm and the new 150-600mm. I enjoy every minute shooting mirrorless........It is so much fun. My worry is that I have never done any editing till now, and the only program I have is the Luminar Neo, but I am also undecisive between the Lightroom ΟR the Capture 1 , 22 version.....which seems as your favourate editing tool. ..As I am also new using MacBookPro it is so much new to learn, especially with fuji photos as they are not recognisable.....eg. I can play slideshow with all of my canon or Nikon photos except the fuji ones..........Can you please advise me on that and also tell me if there is still time getting the capture one with the 20% discount? Thank you Chris very much for all the invaluable help

I like Capture One very much! I have used it since the end of 2018. I liken using Capture One in comparison to Lightroom to speaking in German to speaking in Spanish. You communicate with both but the thought process in order to communicate is different. Layers, as a feature, in Capture One is great! The magic brush is a work in progress that continues to improve, though. I will say that my final color of converted Fujifilm Raw Files is far better in Capture One than Lightroom. I also like the ability to select and mask for particular colors in a separate layer. What’s better than that? The ability to soften and refine the mask with a slider-time saver! I also appreciate the ability to be able to use every tool available in the program within a layer. You can’t do that in Lightroom. Do I like Lightroom? I do. I have used Adobe Camera Raw since version 1 and Lightroom since Version 2. Since I am a Fujifilm Camera user, my results are far better with Capture One straight out of either program.
Initially, there was little in terms ofhow-tos and education as to how to work Capture One. Thanks to Capture One (David Grover) as well as Capture One’s ambassadors, their insight has been invaluable! In four years, I have found wonderful improvements and refinements to Capture One. In comparison, Lightroom seems more gradual (dare I say glacial). There have been new features to Lightroom of late.
Capture One has been very different in comparison to Adobe in terms of listening to customers needs and wants when it come to new features. They actually listen! I asked about 3 years ago for better zoom on the viewer. At the time, the viewer only zoomed to 400%. I asked for 800%. Capture One gave 1600%. There was a live Capture One channel UA-cam event where users could chime in on feature requests and rather than wanting new features users requested an iPad version of Capture One. They listened, coded it, and delivered an iPad version of Capture One.
Under this software hood, there are a trove of features. My only request to improve my Capture One workflow is better noise reduction.
Pal 2 Tech thanks for the video! Capture One thank you for sponsoring Pal 2 Tech!

Thank you so much for this extremely informative video! Being a C1 user for years and now just about to switch from v22 (15.2) to v22 (15.3) with major changes your wrap up came in handy. Actually better than the feature videos of C1 itself. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 really looking for more videos on that topic. There's always something new to learn!

How does Capture One work with Astropad Studio?
Also, one thing I’ve really loved about Lightroom for Photoshop is the cloud sync feature and iPad app so I can work on my photos on my ipad. Will Capture One have an ipad and sync capability anytime soon?

Fantastic Chris. Your videos of the previous version of C1 were excellent. I have been using C1 for some time now and it is far superior than Lightroom. It is more professional but the learning curve at first is a bit complex for people coming from Lightroom. I look forward to your videos on this new version.

Hey!!! Really appreciate all of your videos! I have used adobe for soooo many years. I just recently switched from a Canon r6 to a Xt5 and am loving the experience!! Is it true that capture one handles the Fuji files better than adobe?

I looked at your tutorials and tried Capture One in my studio for a month. I went back to Lightroom. It just didn't fit my workflow and I saw no difference in the file quality unless I was truly pixel peeping, a quote from Jay Maisel "You look at pixels I'll look at pictures. Said while talking to Scott Kelby.

Honestly capture one is best for people that don’t like subscriptions. I do hope they keep this model. Since many companies are embracing adobe.

I jumped straight to Capture one when I got my fuji xt3 two years ago. Recently they upped the price quite a bit, so I switched to LR. Now I consider choosing C1 a mistake. LR is way better, it never crashes. I get through my edits faster and I am happier with the end result. "Worms" don't bother me. I just go a bit easier on the sharpening tool.

Thank you for your introductions. I currently have a monthly subscription with LR & Photoshop combined. The price of CO compares to LR & Photoshop is dearer. Whether CO have the functionalities of Photoshop? I may consider buying their license option but not sure how much they will charge for each upgrade.

Well, that’s always been my problem with C1 - so many options and overlapping pathways that it simply is not straight forward to use. I never understood why there is a need for sessions AND catalog. I want to have files in a folder on a harddisk - just like under good old MS-DOS 3.3. This is all I need and in C1 I loose overview as it complicates things with far too many opportunities.

    • @pal2tech
      @pal2tech  2 роки тому +2

In that case, you definitely want to go with Sessions. It's closest to browsing a hard drive. And MS-DOS was awesome also! 👍

@@pal2tech maybe, but I tend to loose overview where C1 copies my files to (how many folders are generated upon import and where are these?). And I have not found yet a workflow to use the edited pictures in LR too - what I do not want to give up due to its superior administrative capabilities and Mobile. I have to convert them to JPEG before and thus I can shoot JPEG directly with my Fuji…

I import in Lightroom and Capture One from the original location on my computer. The location is the same in the file tree in the OS as is in the raw processor I am using. I have a Raw File Library fold on my desktop and then a folder with for each client. Within each client folder, I have a Raw Folder, A Tiff Folder, a Proof Folder and a Rejects folder. The locations are the same on the OS and in the raw processor. When I import images, I first place them into the computer in a client folder thru the OS, then I IMPORT FROM ORIGINAL LOCATION on the Raw Processor of choice, and then I go to work. I hope this helped.

I am new to Capture One so I really appreciate these videos, and all your Fuji videos. One question I have is I haven't found it syncing with my other computer. Work I do on one computer isn't accessible on the other computer and visa versa. What am I doing wrong?

I had a hard time with getting sharpness out of my photos of my dog with my X-H2S and Lightroom. I tried Capture One and what a huge difference. The raw conversion with the dog's fur is very much better in C1. My only concern about ditching Lightroom is the catalog. I have 170,000 photos all with metadata in sidecars that Lightroom happily let's me search by metadata, e.g. person's name. If I go to C1 I don't know what strategy to use to move across. I did try Photo Mechanic years ago, but I don't want any proprietary lock in with my metadata. Adobe sidecars are well supported by not just Adobe. Oh and Capture One, please put a mid slider in the split toning. And C1 black and white to me looks way better that Lightroom's.

Great video Chris! Coming from Lightroom I completely agree with everything you have said about C1: it's overwhelming at the beginning but so much more powerful and totally worth to develop a new workflow. BTW: Love the grip that you have mount on your X-T4! Reminds me somehow of the style of the Mamiya Press. :)
