  • Catholic Speaker, Fr Rob Galea, shares the reason why the Catholic Church uses symbols in the sacraments of the Catholic Church to make visible the inexpressible love of God. There are five symbols of Baptism that Fr Rob talks about in this video, including the Cross, water, oil, white garment, and light.
    Filmed in Sydney, Australia.

Fr. Rob, could you do a video on the Liturgy of the Hours (I ask because you say things precisely and concisely so that it's very easy to share with others). It's something I wish I discovered long before. More often than not, the Psalms for the day give a lot of encouragement and give a lot of consolation for the exact problem I'm going through at that time. It feels more like Providence than mere coincidence to me.

Father Rob it is clear that you love the Lord Jesus. However baptism of infants is not scriptural. Baptism does not save a person. It does not matter if you were baptized by immersion, pouring, or sprinkling - if you have not first trusted in Christ for salvation, baptism (no matter the method) is meaningless and useless. Water baptism by immersion is a step of obedience to be done after salvation as a public profession of faith in Christ and identification with Him. Infant baptism does not fit the Biblical definition of baptism or the Biblical method of baptism. If Christian parents wish to dedicate their child to Christ, then a baby dedication service is entirely appropriate. However, even if infants are dedicated to the Lord, when they grow up they will still have to make a personal decision to believe in Jesus Christ in order to be saved. There is much confusion about baptism in the various Christian denominations. However, this is not a result of the Bible presenting a confusing message on baptism. The Bible is abundantly clear of what baptism is, who it is for, and what it accomplishes. In the Bible, only believers who had placed their faith in Christ were baptized - as a public testimony of their faith and identification with Him (Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-4). Water baptism by immersion is a step of obedience after faith in Christ. It is a proclamation of faith in Christ, a statement of submission to Him, and an identification with His death, burial, and resurrection.

I thought Jesus and his disciples baptized households ... and everyone in the household would have included the children and that was why Catholics do so and yes it is true baptism does not save one but washes away the original sin we are born with is also what I understand and for Catholics accepting of Christ Jesus is done when they are older and it is known as Confirmation where we admit and accept Christ as Our Savior ..

You ask good questions. As a christian I believe from scripture that Baptism is not necessary for salvation. Baptism does not save from sin. In 1 Peter 3:21, Peter clearly taught that baptism was not a ceremonial act of physical purification, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. Baptism is the symbol of what has already occurred in the heart and life of one who has trusted Christ as Savior (Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12). Baptism is an important step of obedience that every Christian should take. Baptism cannot be a requirement for salvation. To make it such is an attack on the sufficiency of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So water baptism doesnt wash away original sin because only through Jesus Christs death and resurrection as we made righteous through him. Water baptism is an outward sign of your conversion and your commitment and love for Christ. Jesus is after our heart and that we believe what he did for us and love him. He wants a relationship with us. So if you go through confirmation as a ritual and something you should do and your heart is far from him, then this is not what Jesus wants. If you want to this link I think explains it well...gotquestions.org/baptism-salvation.html Also this I think is good about christening children....gotquestions.org/baptism-salvation.html Also in the new testament is talks about being born again on Gods Holy Spirit, he comes to reside in us. John 3:1-21. www.gotquestions.org/receive-Holy-Spirit.html God bless you Anna

kim angus John 3:5 is all I need to say, to tell you that baptism although symbolic is necessary. Jesus said it, so it's done. There's no I think or I believe.
"Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit."

Yes true I go by the word of God. If you read in context John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. 6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[b] gives birth to spirit. So he is talking about our physical birth (which is by water) and then our spiritual birth (of God). Also if you read verse 4 Nicodemus is talking about going back into your mother womb.If you read John 3 in context Jesus only talks about spiritual birth nowhere does he say about water baptism to be born again. Requiring anything in addition to faith in Jesus Christ for salvation is a works-based salvation. To add anything to the gospel is to say that Jesus' death on the cross was not sufficient to purchase our salvation. “I am thankful that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius” (1 Corinthians 1:14)? Why would he have said, “For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel-not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power” Water Baptism is not necessary for salvation. Water Baptism does not save from sin but from a bad conscience. In 1 Peter 3:21, Peter clearly taught that baptism was not a ceremonial act of physical purification, but the pledge of a good conscience toward God. Water Baptism is the symbol of what has already occurred in the heart and life of one who has trusted Christ as Savior (Romans 6:3-5; Galatians 3:27; Colossians 2:12). Water Baptism is an important step of obedience that every Christian should take. Water Baptism cannot be a requirement for salvation. To make it such is an attack on the sufficiency of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So water baptism is a good thing however not for salvation. www.gotquestions.org/baptism-salvation.html
