❤I fell in love with the gift of Curtis Stigers years ago when I first heard him sing this song. He sings with so much passion. I love his cover of this beautiful song.❤
I remember this classic from the Q. Jones L/P "Body Heat" 1974. This dude Curtis Stigers really did his business on this track. I believe that if an artist covers a classic, they shouldn't f#*k it up. Well he didn't. His voice is incredible. This is a very nice tribute to Quincy Jones' 75th birthday celebration. Thanks for the post qicksilverJAZZ.
I have listened to many covers of this song, even the original as excellent as it is doesn't come close to Stigers.. Just BEAUTIFUL The man can turn any song into a masterpiece!!! Big love x
"I think about what touches me," says Quincy when asked what's usually on his mind, when he's in the studio as producer / arranger. "I've never done -- ever in my life -- music for money or fame. Never! 'cause God walks out of the room then; it's not sacred anymore." Just learned of Quincy's passing "age 91" from Rick Beato -- who just did a UA-cam hour-long special. Thanks from Quincy fans everwhere. [adding] My favorite of Quincy Jones' arrangements? From the 70s, EVERYTHING MUST CHANGE -- best ever live version with a full jazz orchestra that stays true to Q's original orchestration. What a joy! There are people who "fell in love with Curtis Stigers" after this performance. Superb!
Lyrics stand for something. Then there's the track. When the two blend and you get the voice to deliver a blending you have what the composer envisioned.
An excellent version of this song. Nina Simone also performed a great rendition. But for me Sarah Vaughan owns this tune. The only question is which one of her five versions on youtube is the best. Three were recorded in 1975: Sao Paulo; Paris and Laven. Live at Ronnie Scotts in 1977 was the only recording released during her lifetime. Live at Rosy's(1978) was released on Cd a couple of years ago. I'm torn between the versions at Rosy's and Paris.
Big fan of curtis stigers for over 20yrs, the man just oozes talent, outstanding performance, breathtakingly beautiful. Brilliant. Thank you
