It is like a massive battery for oil. Maybe 2 valves per line for 17 channels. That is a lot of engines.

After looking at Google Earth the tank is open topped so would have been water not oil as I mentioned in the video, cant find nothing about this area so far...

I have not been to Crossness but the large water tank could have been for pump priming.
