Finally, someone doing this type of video. Thanks.
Wow, that was great. So incredibly helpful, and after looking through so many others that weren't, I really appreciate this. THANKS
Very helpful, many thanks!
Thank you for making this video, was incredibly useful!
Extremely helpful. Thank you.
Nice explanation. Some of this has been made easier with firmware 2.1 for the focus area selection. Now just set to ALL and use the read dial and pick. The custom setting is the best part and thanks for a really easy to understand explanation.
Good stuff, explained a ton about AF-C! Thank you.
My pleasure! Thanks for watching! -Eric
Perfect. Thank you
Thanks for the explanation. It was very helpful.
My pleasure :-)
Great tips. Thank you!!! What setting would you use for street photography? Cheers
Thanks for the tips! Haven't touched this part of the camera since having it. Maybe I'll give it a go 🤘🏻
Thanks for watching! -Eric
Very helpful video Eric, as always. Thanks.
+oc2phish07 My pleasure! Thanks for watching! -Eric
Great tips! Which settings do you use to track a subject accross the scene during video
recording?
great video thank you!
Thanks great video.
great video. did you use relase priority or focus priority for your wildlife?
Thanks you!
thanks a lot
Great video
Hi :) I loved the video, as I am a new user of Fuji ... As I am a spanish speaker, I miss one thing, where do you put that custom setting so that it's handy for you...lets say I am with birds that are on the water, and suddenly they start flying all at a time, so I need to make a very quick change of mode...how do I set that on the camera buttons in order to make a very very quick change and then go back to the previous one I was using? Thanks a lot!!! Best regards, from Uruguay.
Eric - your videos are terrific! What I most need you to do is to organize them differently. I'm brand new and am still fumbling with just the basics. Would you consider organizing your videos into channels by different categories, and then let the dates fall where they may. i.e "Setting Up The Camera", Setting Up Function Button's for the Beginner ... Setting Up For Great Focusing, Setting Up For Great ... (you get what I mean). You do such a good job of explaining stuff, but if I can't find the content because it's date organized and you covered that 1 month ago, I'm not going to find it and that would be sad! Keep up the great work ... it really is helping me (and other folks).
Hi Eric, thank for a great video. I have been "fighting" with the auto focus. Sports shooter and to be exact while tracking windsurf I managed to track the whole kit, however the rider is rarely in focus. Any thoughts? I have set all the works AF-C, Zone Area attempted 3x3 5x5 and using a xt3 50140mm F2.8. I don't want to blame the equipment, just wondering if I am really out of the envelop for this lens, as the surf can be as far as a whole football field and would require a longer lens e.g. 100-400... looking forward for your insight. Thank you for all of your work and knowledge! Cheers
Way to respond to my comment on your other recent video re: AF-C mode -- thanks, Eric!
I got your back :-)
when you go into the af-c mode do you need to change the front to continuous focusing or can you leave on single? seems if you go into those modes it will auto switch? thanks
How you set the focus ? to relase priority or focus priority? thnaks
Will AF-C tracking work in portrait orientation? I haven't found that it does. I'm interested in your opinion on that.
How about using basketball games? Gyms aren't that well lit in the first place.. I'm using the 18-135. I haven't used the AF-C mode yet. Recommendations?
Just don't forget to set your front button to C for continous. And carry an extra couple batteries. Sent you 6. I noticed your full XT2 blog review failed to open on my phone.
I'm going to guess that the accelerate and decelerate tracking feature is something that was tested more with a telephoto lens, such as the 50-140. The scenario I'm imagining is a race track and you're in the stands. The lens accounts a lot for how well those modes work, I'm guessing. Did you try that one with a tele or wide?
Thank you
Question please I have the Fuji 35mm f2 and the Fuji xt-2. There is a little breathing, pumping or whatever you call it. It gets nauseating if you have the 35 mm. What would suggest to do with the Settings?
which one is the best for wedding?im struggling.
I have this problem after updating firmware is in AF-S mode in video when I half press the shutter it doesn't do the auto focus. It use to work before the update.. it didn't work for my photography mode too until I turned back on AF Shutter option on but somehow video mode still doesn't work. Wondering if you know why or have any solution to it?
Great work, thx a lot.
Just got into Fuji with a XT2 and I simply love it!
Found out that mode 4 and 5 works very well for my little daughter whose movements are unpredictable :P
How about your experience?
By the way I switched the AF Mode to "All" which allows me to scroll through all modes and leaves a button for a different setting ;)
Best wishes!
Hi...I need to use the extreme left and right focus points for fashion photography to focus in the upper quadrant vertical area to eye focus. Does it work well?
Hi Benjamin! It seems to work well for general tracking, but the eye AF can be a little on and off on the extreme edges. However, this new firmware that Fuji is releasing in November claims that it will make the AF tracking twice as fast which will be great! Thanks!
I bit the Bullet and bought the Fujifilm X-T20 and 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 lens. My first foray into mirrorless cameras ever! Oh, I won't use the eye detect, just the extreme focus pint indicators. :-)
+Benjamin Kanarek Ohhh, ok cool! Then I would say it should be sufficient for tracking as long as it's not in super dark lighting! I love your work by the way, Benjamin. Fantastic stuff!
Thank You! :-)
what does it means by front?
Great video give us more on the settings, you use please Thank YouTom G
Thanks, Tom. What specific settings do you want to know about? -Eric
Thanks for coming back to me the problem was I was told that when I switch to manual mode on my X-T2 that I have to go into setting and turn off ( preview exposure and white balance ) and when not in Manual mode to turn back on / I tried to make a shortcut to this by, making the AE-L Button the short cut but does not seam to work .anyway thanks again I will get there eventually ? Tom G Ayrshire, Scotland .
Can't understand why fujifilm didn't add the customisable setting on the x pro2. I may never need it but just seems a bit daft to me. Same as the iso using the command dial.
What is the set up for a Runway Fashion show here models will enter from the side of the stage, turn then walk toward me, do some poses, turn and walk back all while another model is coming down the runway.
In Nikon world I shoot continuous with 3d tracking or group af, rapid fire and I will also use a shoe mounted SB-910 connected to a battery pack for fast recycle. Typically I am using either a 24-70 or 70-200 mm 2.8. The Fuji versions would be 16-55 and 50-140, I am still not sure about leaving Nikon for Fuji X for this. Can Fuji replace my D750's for runway fashion shows ?
Simon Bear I shoot fashion runway with a Fuji x e2 with little issue,so I imagine with the x T2 and the 50-140mm f2 you should have no issue
What kind of SD cards are you using? UHS-I or UHS-II?
+fatfro1 UHS-II
Which setting would be best if you're say panning and tracking kids running around a playground or in a swing... I want their face in focus with some blur to show motion
blur to show motion would rely more on the shutter speed, and not the tracking, primarily. You'll want to be in shutter priority mode, and choose a slightly slower ss than you'd usually pick in order to show that motion. Lock on to the face with your choice of tracking mode *2 will probably work well*.
Oh, and btw.. I've been using *T* mode since it hit the X T1 which allows you to select shutter speeds in finer increments vs just using the speeds shown on the dial. Make sure that your dynamic range is set to 100 *unless you're attempting to shoot in deep shadows or highlights* or 200 in order to keep the ISO at base levels, then choose auto ISO and you're good.
Doug B. Thanks Doug, I appreciate the tips. I'll try them out this weekend. I had a really hard time achieving this effect when I had my Canon 60D but haven't attempted this yet since I got the XT2.
Any one know how to put the display showing that 9 squares in the center of the AF square ? i manage put ind the AF square to show up in the display but i don t see the others inside any tip ?
Tiago Coradinho That's zone focusing, menu > af/mf > AF mode and it's the middle one, zone focus. Also available by pressing the top button of the four buttons of the D pad, if you haven't tweeted those.
What would you use for someone walking toward the camera, like a bride walking down the aisle?
Probably custom AF setting #3
Thanks I'll try that. I also enjoy your videos comparing Lightroom to Capture One and On1. I think I've just about had it with Lightroom for Fuji files. Which do you recommend I try first Capture One or ON1? Thanks.
I tried them all as well :) To my surprise, best was C1- and believe it or not a very simple program did proved useful to keep some not so good photos that I don't want to throw away: Photoscape x , yes kind of a program that one would never think of.... LR I don't like that much, On1 is too much for me, as my photos with this camera have much less mistakes than with my other canon bodies. Best Luck!
Do you set your Shutter AF - AF-C to off or on?
I would imagine on. And probably the C setting in the front button ...
This dude fucking rocks, sub-ed!
+Tran Binh Minh Thanks! :-)
Anyone else having an issue with the AF joystick after updating? Mine wont go in the up direction
I have an issue with AF, not he joystick but with this update the AF on Single Point have 6 sizes, and I don´t know why, but i still have only 5
Hi Jony...check what you have set for your number of focus points...when I set mine on 325 points instead of 91 it changes from 5 sizes to 6...I think that that is your problem :-)
aokdev
Hello, thanks for you answer, I already figured out, on the AF-C mode the camera have 5 sizes of focus point, om AF-S it have 6 sizes.
Didn't know that in 91 points only have 5 sizes also, thanks 😉
Regret selling my Leica M6 :-)
