It's just a thing after all. Things can be replaced, however nice. People can't. Having an elderly lady drive into my car at low speed at a junction a few decades back, I was more worried about her than the damage, as although both of us were mercifully uninjured, she was clearly very shocked and upset. I did my best to calm her down until a friend of hers arrived. Please be kind and gentle if you are ever involved in such an incident. People, especially older folk, can be quite fragile. Shock alone can be quite dangerous.
Unfortunately, there’s more people on the road that pay little or no attention nowadays than the people that are careful drivers and actually pay attention…..☹️☹️
Far too many people are being distracted by those damn infotainment screens. So sad to see a perfect classic destroyed by some idiot 😢 I would lose my shit if anyone hit mine.
That really sucks. I'm a Merc owner myself. This is testament to Mercedes build quality. I'm sure that this could be repaired. Don't write it off just yet. Rob & Chris of Salvage Rebuilds UK have repaired worse.
Oh we've repaired much worse. The only gripe is that we have to go through the insurance before we even know what's the plan with the car. If they write it off, we'll just buy it back and fix it up.
yes true but they don't have to deal with the insurance side of things. Remember this is a family car and we have to go through the insurance due to the nature of the accident. They just buy cars that have already had the paperwork sorted out on.
That is a beautiful example of a 190e. I think it will be worth stripping it down further and having a look at the inner wing. I think it would be repairable as the A pillar looks to have not been affected. It would make good content, seeing it fixed.
Gutted to see a 190E like mine eat the dust.. the colour of yours (Almandine Red) isn’t so common. Even pre NCAP they were focused on safety and this shows it. The reality is that if you know the car and apart from this accident damage, it’s a good solid runner, no head gasket issues, for example, saving it has to beat buying something else new and not having the same history. I’m a member of various 190 E groups on Facebook and there’s at least a couple of good guys who break these on a regular basis. The roof doesn’t look kinked so don’t write it off unless it really is that far gone. However, to be fair, if you guys can’t fix it, nobody can!

What a shame. Thankfully no-one hurt. Great cars, a mate of mine had one from new and took it to nearly 500K miles. Certainly a write-off insurance wise. Problem is, it being a great example could be on classic insurance with a guaranteed value, but it is down to the other lady's insurance. Someone I know (Timms BMW repairs and information YT channel) has had this happen to his E31. It had a guaranteed insurance value of £30K, but because the accident wasn't his fault after loads of grief he only got £20K from the other insurance. If you stick it out with the third party's insurers, buy the car back, it is definitely repairable, particularly with your skills, in the medium term, scrounging second hand parts etc. It is hard to see how anyone would not stop at that junction, mobile phone maybe?

Sad about the car but at least your mum wasn't hurt, not too bothered about the other person being injured or not since they caused it. That's a very cool mum having a Supra, very nice car that.
The insurance company might surprise you. Someone pulled out in front of my mk2 golf last year and the insurance company repaired it. All front end, bonnet and near side wing. They repaired the driver’s side wing. However, all new replacement parts were not genuine as they are no longer available.
Oh my goodness Lewis Leanne hope your mom is ok do send her our regards she must have been so shaken but thank goodness she is ok and having worked on Mercedes of that era as a junior tech they are well made and strong cars Fingers crossed it can be saved
The best thing is mum is ok and not hurt. I remember the MK1 Astra in your workshop, you've done an amazing amount of work on it for it to look so good.
There is no point in Insurance even looking at it. They would make it a total loss with a just a dent on the door. But that is definitely repairable, and not that big a job with someone with a work shop and skill.
As Lewis says "everything can be repaired" but that looks like a lot of work. Main thing is Everyone was OK. Supra eh? must be the coolest mum in Wales.
First off, glad everyone is OK. That said really sorry on your run of bad luck, you don't deserve it. Finally the video you mentioned about protecting a classic car would be much appreciated..
Hopefully you can buy it back and save it, never great when any car gets written off. Unfortunately you don't usually get a decent payout for the time and effort you put in and all those shiny new parts you lovingly replace 😢😢😢
If you take all the damaged panels off that will take on a different perspective and the damage to the inner wing could be pulled back into line. If needs be take it to someone with a jig .Outer panels are available new from mercedes (at a price) or there are plenty of used good parts available.
Good that no one was hurt. As a parts car it definitely has more value than the insurance companies will assess it for. Also exported to Eastern Europe they definitely would totally resurrect this.
I wouldn't go through insurance with that. I'd repair it or have it repaired, then invoice whoever caused the damage. There's no legal obligation to have it fixed via insurance, and your remedy at law is to be put back into the position you would have been in if the accident had not happened. Also, you are not obliged to accept a valuation suggested by the third party's insurer. And never assume an insurance company is acting in your best interests or telling you the truth.
Keep the car with yourselves, don't let it be taken away to a salvage yard. Could always claim the storage charges then. The damage is nothing that can't be fixed, probably an afternoons work for you guys. Should at worst be a Cat S but wouldn't worry about that as you know how good a car it is even if it is listed now. I'd get it 4 wheel alignment checked in the meantime then if the insurers try to make it a cat B, yet it all tracks straight you can disagree with them. Look forward to seeing you fix it 👍
Oh the car won't be going anywhere near a salvage yard. We'll get things sorted out with the insurance and hopefully not too long till the rebuild begins!
Insurance will definitely write that off if they get the chance! There was talk about them writing off my new Volvo V90 when all it needed was the bumper painting because it was easier!! They apparently had to source a new bumper because the paint thickness could interfere with the sensors in the car. Keep the classics on the road! I know of a few 190Es that have been scrapped over the last couple of years so they're on the way out as it is.
It seems nowadays, insurance companies will write off a perfectly repairable car, just because it is old and has got minor damage. This car is repairable and should be repaired. It is too good to 'scrap'. If they do 'write it off', buy the salvage and repair it. I have done so a few times. It is so wasteful (and not eco friendly) to waste a good car.
So glad your mums ok , hope they did the other driver for dangerous driving , sadly ever since lockdowns iv found the state of driving truly horrific , totally agree on the MK3 supra being cool , iv had my manual white turbo for a long while and love him to bits

Each of us has made mistakes on the road, so perhaps should not judge.

Worth saving. What a solid car 👍
Great car, held up very well
