Absolutely Elizabeth. I was being flippant when I said she pulled it out of her ass. This is probably the best version I have ever heard. The truth is that her voice coupled with larry's amazing harmonica playing is just perfect.
@Myrddin1975 right. Larry Adler made a joking comment. She laughed. It wasn't a 'notion'. From a joking comment, this guy made the flat out statement that Mr. Adler: 'did marry her eventually'. Wha??? Surely a 10 second Google search would have revealed all. Trouble is people would prefer to spread nonsense instead of checking the actual facts. And OLEta didn't 'pull this' performance from anywhere other than her totally consummate professionally prepared soul. She's just brilliant, as is he.
I’ve been looking for years, tried talking with BBC….fail. I’m in Australia and the show was aired on our national broadcaster but again, fail. It’s one of the very greatest docos on music that i’ve ever seen and such a shame it seems lost.
The song belongs to the album “The glory of Gershwin” where Larry Adler plays together with different singers: Oleta Adams, Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Chris the Burgh, Sting, Lisa Stansfield,Elvis Costello, Carly Simon, Cher, Kate Bush, Jon Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf, Robert Palmer, Sinead O’Connor,… An absolute amazing disc that worth to buy and listening. In UA-cam you’ll find a quite all the songs
this may be the most beautiful thing I have ever heard
Good grief that brought tears to my eyes. Just stunning
Oleta's voice ,Larry Adler's harmonica, Gershwin's music & produced by George Martin .... Absolutely sublime ingredients ... Beautiful 🙂
Larry would’ve had a ball accompanying this staggeringly good singer!
Note perfect gloriousness.
Great to see Sir George Martin
A touch of real class.

Siamo su un altro pianeta!
The singer is Oleta Adams
Check out 'Woman in Chains' by Tears for Fears. She elevated that record to stellar level as well.
You've never heard of Oleta Adams??? Where you been living, under a rock?
This is Oleta Adams
Reminds me of Dame Shirley Bassey
Oleta Adams
I can't seem to find a complete recording of this FANTASTIC program anywhere. Does anyone have a link?
