I was getting close to 20 fragrances by the end of 2022 and decided to not purchase for a year and give some of my fragrances away. Now I've cut down to 10. If you feel like you're getting addicted the following advice might help: Do the math on how long it will take you to finish a bottle and that may help you keep yourself more reasonable with your purchases. If 1ml contains 8 sprays and you use 1ml per day, then in a year you would use equivalent to 3.5 100ml bottles. So 10 bottles will take you 3 years, 20 will take you 6.
@BA-cz4is That is true but sometimes it turns into retail therapy where we're always looking out to get the next one. If you're only interested in smelling new scents then you should be buying decants (if possible).
I second this. Beginners are usually just trying on a new idea (no pun intended) and don't really need to know all the more comprehensive stuff unless they are getting into it more intensely. If it's the difference between leaving your house smelling like shower soap and leaving your house smelling confident and intentional then Tobey's advice was great.
I'd seen Tobey's video before and I appreciate your respectful approach to it. He's lucky to have caught your eye, especially if he's been watching your stuff like you suspect. Jeremy Fragrance grinds my gears just terribly, but he's a kid so I can understand him being impressed by the schtick.
quick add-on to molecule 01 though: it's not pure iso e super, it's mixed in with gamma isomer... A lot of people buying unbranded iso e super complain about not getting the same experience as with molecule 01 which at first sounded illogical to me because how could a iso e super/alcohol mix possibly smell different from different providers but it's of course a different story if there is actually a little blend going on... So i would recommend looking for iso e super/gamma isomer blends if you want a similar alternative...
Like he said, where i live most people don't wear fragrances at all... let alone expensive ones like BdC (my 'dumb reach') or Sauvage. I literally never smelled anyone else with BdC or any distinct fragrance, for that matter. Nowadays i like to experiment more with my fragrances but not because i think my BdC is overused.. just because i like to experiment new scents.
Wait, Sauvage is considered expensive? I thought designer fragrances are pretty cheap and fair priced. It's when you get to the niche that they really start becoming expensive (think Parfums de Marly, Xerjoff, etc)
I love the Tom Ford grey vetiver recommendation. It's a little expensive but it's on sale quite frequently (in my country at least). The scent itself is so damn good, the best non-niche fragrance for formal events I've smelled so far.
I love Dylan Blue, it's currently my everyday scent. The first time i tried i wasn't immediately a fan but it grew on me and gets me lots of compliments.
I agree Guerlain L'Homme Extreme is much better than Edp. My nose is slightly blind to Guerlain L'Homme Edp. It doesn't smell strong enough to me. Depending on the strength of perfume, sometimes 2 is enough for stuff like La Nuit de L'Homme Bleu Electrique. It is a thick sweet smell so 2 sprays is enough. Whereas Bleu de Chanel I would spray 5 sprays.
Xerjoff Mefisto is such a good alternative to Silver Mountain Water. Not a direct clone, but very similar vibe. Would strongly recommend it over SMW and Armaf Sillage.
Kinda funny he said that dreamer is masculine when it a floral based scent. I do find it just leaning masculine. Less than some of the other fragrances he has. Its something I feel that a dandy would wear. I love it and its underrated for me a good spring early summer scent.
citizen jack smells pretty good to me, can be used as a everyday smell but it’s vibrant and pretty long lasting. also after a while it gets kind of annoying so use in moderation
Only thing I see, don't store the fragrances in the bathroom. I think the heat of the shower can ruin them after a period of time. Store them in your room in a cool dark place.
Not that many guys wear colognes in Finland, or atleast in the part I live in so I dont really care about some scents being overused. I mainly use Y edp or lhomme ideal edp
Lately all of the fragrance discounters I have gone to in person have been pushing Michael Malul fragrances. I’ve smelled the Ocean Noir which to me smelled like a less-finished Dylan Blue-esque fragrance. I also smelled Citizen Jack and it was good but I opted for Givenchy Pi instead.
Love the videos man! You and a few other channels got me into fragrances about 2 weeks ago lmao, I bought versace eros edp, dior sauvage edp, dylan blue, and clud de nuit edp. Probably not the best start but thats my start. Keep up the good work bro!
I’m late, but the whole where you live is so real, I’m in the rural midwest, nobody has smelt crap besides the cheap stuff at marshals which is an hour drive lol
I'm not a fan of the sweet or aqua/fresh types I tend to lean more for the more masculine deep rich smelling types. Musky is OK if done correctly sometimes too much musk can be over powering in my opinion. I got given a bottle of Aramis years ago and interestingly women seem to really like the smell.
Spicebomb Extreme has been so reformulated that when I tested it against Prada Luna Rossa Black it lasted a bit less than the Prada, so I didn’t but it, as I like the Prada way more as a date scent.
Me and him should trade skin chemistries. I wish most fragrances smelled super masculine on ME. I could use some musk in my life. But for me when I spray on a sweet fragrance it just smells too sweet for my liking. Even normal fragrances with slight sweetness become too sweet because that sweet thing in the frag overpowers everything else.
That Dylan B. Take will offend alot of people hahahaha. Was kinda surprised to see that youre reacting to tobeys video. Its nicely done and the spelling.... yeah he tried hahahaha. Nice vid, and thank you for teaching me how to pronounce "Lattafa" ;)
Great video reviewing a video that works well as a guide for those just getting into the hobby/just want to know more. In general I am not too bothered about how worn my fragrance is, I just tend to avoid extremely popular scents as I have had people say they remind them of someone else and I dont want to necassarily remind people of everyone who wears dior savauge for example. (Would prefer not to be lumped in with the fuck boys) 😅
Hate to be a pain in the ass, but come on, I get when not-into-fragrances people don't know the names of the perfumes they wear (mostly cuz they may have gotten it as a gift), but a dude with that many perfumes does not know what's the name of 90% of his collection?
Interesting video, did get some things right, other things not so much. And idk where he gets Y EDP Intense smelling like cotton candy that's so not true.
I grew up a really big fan of JPG le Male and ultra male. As so many of my friends have been rocking it, I’ve been trying to find something similar to that profile but different. Something better 😅. Any suggestions?
JPG Scandal, PR 1M Elixir, JPG Le Male Elixir, Azzaro TMW Parfum. They don't smell "similar," but are in the same family of a sweet/vanillic/fruity vibe.
I am planning to buy Moschino Toyboy 🧸 .... It used to be a beast mode perfume back in the day..can you please tell me whether it's still the same or has been reformulated?
Ehhh idk bout the 4 sprays, nothing I have used has really projected on my skin. I take that back only one cologne has ever had just absolutely absurd projection… Tom Ford Ombré Leather EDP. It has been the only bottle of cologne I can find that has actually projected off my skin after the first 30mins to an hour. Everything else I have to spray a minimum of 8 to have it even be a skin scent after the first 2 hours usually about 10-12 makes it last the normal 6hrs everyone talks about when reviewing the exact same bottles spraying 3-5 sprays. I always have a clean body when applying, I moisturise my skin each and every time, I drink water, idk what to do maybe it’s my skin type? Maybe there’s something I’m missing? Idk. All ik is I do a minimum of 8 sprays everyday.
I'm a "clinging on to his youth" type of guy, any recommendations for aquatic, or fresh with no citrus, more mature type of colognes? I don't like sweet stuff.
It might be, it's good and cheap enough to use it as an everyday signature smell. On the other hand it's hugely popular so I don't see what's the point in gatekeeping it.
So I got a kit of samples and I get can get one bottle for free. I am wondering if I should get Prada ocean, ysl y edp, Valentino born in Roma edt, replica jazz club, spice bomb nightvision or badboy cobalt. I also can get the original acqua di gio I was wondering if anyone could help me choose what to get.
It depends what kind of fragrance you’re looking for, what you own so far, and your age. If it’s your first Fragrance, go for something versatile like Cobalt, Y EDP or Ocean (EDT I’m presuming). If you’re looking for an evening Seductive scent, Jazz Club is my choice. :)
Haven't tried Layton yet, but Carlisle is super mature and refined. Not a fragrance for a teen, but you can wear whatever you want at the end of the day.
Do you guys regard clones in the way that others regard fakes / replicas of other items? Such as watches, shoes etc. It seems a lot of people do, but perfume brands, especially designers, have been cloning each other for years, or building off another brands DNA.
