Punk and pop-punk were my favorite music for most of high school and college, and I used to play electric guitar all the time even though I was never particularly good at it. It's really damn hard! When I went to art school I mostly stopped playing and focused more on my art. For this song I had to dust off my guitar (very literally) and attempt to play a crappy punk song that is reminiscent of Rancid, Social Distortion, The Sex Pistols, Blink-182 and NOFX. And punk tends to be about frustration, so why not have it be about the frustration of struggling with a face that has no apparent uniqueness to exaggerate? However, as I've progressed over the years, I've found that almost any face is more unique than you might originally think when you learn to see more clearly!
