I believe she was out of the show for about 3-4 weeks and in her absence, Monique Wilson and Jenine Desiderio alternated as Kim. Major props go to Salonga’s singing teacher Mary Hammond for helping Salonga rebuild her singing voice from the ground up by studying and learning bel canto vocal technique.
Filipino singers are trained so they can sing seated. Some even trained while lying down, on a treadmill or neck deep underwater. You can search for Wish Bus videos where they sing live for a radio station whilst inside a bus. Lea did musical theatre as early as 7 years old so singing whilst seated is something she can do even before Miss Saigon.

Absolutely beautifully sung , have been a silent fan of Lea's since her Miss Saigon & Les Mis performances but today on my 73rd Birthday am beyond excited as I have been shown a booking made by my Husband to see Lea live in Bristol for June 2024 & can't wait . She has it all , a wonderful stage prescence, crystal clear vocals & an astounding array of songs.

Sometime it's just frustrating hearing some wannabies opera singer just throwing some bad pronunciation and some shaky notes in some talent show. Here you have the perfect example of real passionate professional who have dedicated their studies and suols to the Music. Bravi, really well done
Contestants in talent shows don't have the luxury of grabbing a native italian to coach them. Still they loved the song enough for them to try a language they totally don't understand-- and it frustrates you? Also, it's ironic when you judge others for not nailing italian when your english also needs more work.
