I totally agree with JohnathonB824.....Don't be intimidated either.....it's just chicken, or cow or whatever.....cook what you like, how you like it. Alton Brown always said.....life is a matter of taste!
I started learning to cook when I was about 8 years old, and I am the designated cook for most dishes in my family. I'm the aunt that cooks so good Lol! My advice is to experiment with the foods you like most, as you make meals you really like you will wind up adding other ingredients to your recipe. Take your time when cooking, it's the patience and love you put into cooking that also makes it taste good. Don't listen to people telling you the right way to make it if you're only making it for yourself, but let's face it no one wants a whole pan of leftover food that no one will eat. I remember my brother's mother in-law made lamb for their wedding. She was very angry when she saw that it was being thrown in the trash. It was disgusting! So, try to make it to make it guest friendly when cooking for others, and don't be too sensitive when getting feedback. Constructive criticism is needed to become a great cook. Cooking is easy once you get the hang of it. Keep an eye on your flame and like I tell my 12 year old, don't be afraid to turn it down if it's too high. Happy Cooking! ☺
I TAUGHT MYSELF TO COOK, MY GREATEST 'TEACHER' .. 'EAT EVERYTHING YOU COOK, GOOD OR BAD', NOTHING TEACHES 'WHAT WORKS/WHAT DOESNT WORK' LIKE EATING THE WHOLE THING .. YOU WILL REMEMBER. MY SEAFOOD PASTA TOOK 2 YEARS TO PERFECT. I USED MY DAD & I MOSTLY! HE LOVED EVERY IDEATION, & WHEN I GOT TO 'THE ONE', WE BOTH KNEW IT. THX DAD!
My Mother always soaked her chicken in cold salt water for 2-3 hrs before cooking them. I do the same. Its like the difference between nite & day!! Its so tender & juicy. But the main reason she did that was to get all the impurities out of them. Can't ever remember getting sick from chicken!! I do several other meats the same way...one is wild rabbit...I love the rabbits in my area...grain fed...lots of crops and they are absolutely delicious!! I soak them in salt also and fry like chicken which I prefer fried rabbit over chicken!! But that meat melts in your mouth!! Got my freezer full this season!!!
I followed recipes for everything. Now, I am an excellent cook and I don't use many recipes. Learning seasoning is key. I've been cooking for 48 years for my family. I'm Still the cook and I adore it!
Would you move in with me? My late husband was the chef in the house. I am worthless when it comes to cooking. I keep trying and I guess about halfe of what I cook is ok. Sure wish I could cook like my husband did.

7 minutes in. Drinking beer at 9:30 in the morning on a saturday sound good to me. Ill be having one myself as soon as everyone gets out of the kitchen so I can cook. Its 7am now saturday morning.
My grandma used to make this all the time. I started thinking about it today so I looked it up on here. She would always heat hers in a pan almost like a gravy. We’d then boil rice and pour it over rice. Or we would mix a can with 6-8 scrambled eggs and cook. Either way it was delicious. I’ll will be doing it this week.
Because they are full of crap. Your not gonna loose that much heat taking the lid off and stirring. Don't leave it off for like 1/2 hour but a few minutes does NOT significantly reduce heat
For those on a budget, you MUST try a flat iron steak! They're so juicy and tender and beats many more expensive cuts I've ever had! Will need to be bought at the butcher shop. Let me know if you've tried it! 😉
You have to be financially well off to afford both quality and cheap quality beef. I love to sink my teeth in those delicious steaks, but it’s just a fading dream.
Jif may be others favorite. I prefer Natural Skippy Creamy peanut butter. I am a child of the 50's & I do remember Jiffy. NEVER liked it too dry. JUST as Jif is too dry for my taste.
🎁 I always learn something from your videos, thank you! I'm a little ahead of where I usually am with holiday shopping at this point! One thing I found for myself is Hormel brand Plant Based Chili. I didn't know they had any vegetarian products! If it's tasty it will definitely become a regular addition to my preps.
@roaringturtle8181: "plant based" products are *highly processed* therefore not good for your human body. Stick with real food that looks like it came from nature. Don't by into the marketing.
@@violetviolet888 Thanks for your input. I've been a vegetarian for over 30 years. I rarely eat any pre- packaged or highly processed foods of any kind. However when considering long term storage for SHTF scenarios, I'm happy to know there are some options.

It is simple to adjust dishes when cooking, I only use recipes as a basic guide. Baking is different, it uses formulas, in most cases, recipes should be followed. It is awesome that you are self taught!
So what's up with this "desired" crispy edge to a fried egg? That's just a ring of denatured protein that has basically turned to plastic, and is indigestible! Please people, do yourself a favor and stop consuming plastic! You can still cook your eggs to perfection, just don't consider that "brown crisp ring" as a unique quality of the perfectly cooked egg! Exactly. No one knows what the meat went through before it got to the store. The workers at the meat packing place might drop meat on the floor and pick it up. That's the price we pay because we just have to eat meat.😐
