I purchased a Goldtop jacket (Flat Tracker) and gloves (short cafe racer) based on your thoughts here. Just got them in today and went out on a 100 mile ride. I could not be happier with them. Superb quality. Both the jacket and gloves are easily the nicest I’ve ever owned.
I don’t think I would have found Goldtop if it weren’t for this video, so cheers!

Since returning to riding I always wear my hood jeans. I discovered the hard way in my younger years that regular denim and tarmac don’t mix when I had a slow speed off.

It's great to see someone reviewing the Texpeed gear. It's so fairly priced that it's easy to brush it off as Micky Mouse clothing.
I have those Goldtop Cafe Racer gloves and they are the most comfortable gloves I have ever worn. A really good 3 season glove (not great a temps under about 5°C).

Hah! I forgot to mention that an Aunt of mine went to High School with Brando. Libertyville H.S. She is gone now but not forgotten. Their H.S. classroom photo was cool and she followed his career her whole life. And this is something that has nothing to do with motorcycling but with life!
We now return control of this thread to you, until next time when something you put up here stirs my memory...

I have a Texpeed wax cotton jacket and it's my go to in winter. I've ridden in slatting rain for hours and remained dry. It's not the prettiest of things but function over form in spades. Maintenance is easy, once a year apply Barbour wax and use a hair dryer to help it soak in.

Slowly ploughing through all your super vids.
    Got Texpeed waxed cotton
Bellstaff style full CE protection £74
Heavy, as all waxed cotton are if you want good waterproofing.
But wonderfully made double stitched loads of pockets 5 really thick armour pads ( back is 18mm) and goes spot on with my 350 Classic Enfield.
More its worn the better it will get like all Texpeed super value bike gear

Great video! I've got the Goldtop Classic 76' caferacer and love it. A bit too warm in the summertime. Would love to try the 617 or 619 rebel jacket that you are wearing. It feels like it got more airflow running through the chest on a brando-styled jacket.

I had a pair of Hood Army Greens, an early jean they made. Stiff aramid lining which worked well in an accident I had in 2007. I didn't sustain any abrasion injuries, despite sliding. That Goldtop Rebel jacket looks brilliant on you. I like knuckle protection with my gloves. I don't like small arm openings in jackets. I'm not as big as you, but I struggle there with a lot of modern jackets. Roof V8 Boxer helmet for me, Ol' Man.

Protective jeans tend to be a bit warmer than regular jeans and I find that if you add a pair of thin thermals (£8 - £11 from Screwfix) then your legs are warm enough on the bike on all but the coldest winter days.

Those jackets might be good for summer as thin as they are and they're cheap but I would be really concerned about actually being in an accident with one. I was just hit by a car last month and my current leather jacket probably saved my butt it's made by Fox Creek leather and it is a truly thick jacket I've been wearing it for about 3 years now and even after the accident it's still an excellent condition. It also has the added benefit of having pockets if you want to add armor.

Choosing your bike is the easy bit, riding gear not so as the choice is HUGE! I like the look of the Hood riding jeans so will have to look into those.👍 I've been riding in armoured textiles (now Alpine Stars) for some years now, so versatile and fully wind & waterproof. I do, however, have a Lewis Leathers jacket I bought in 1983 and can still get into, just!😂 I had the zip repaired last year and it's now as good today as the day I bought it and they are very expensive now. Warm Summer rides on the Triumph only though. I switched to modular flip helmets some years ago as they so convenient and offer the best of both open and full face lids. Started with a Schuberth C3 and now in a Shoei Neotec 2, brilliant!👍

For your American viewers I suggest Diamond Gusset "Defender" motorcycle rider jeans. Lined strategically with kevlar, nicely sewn using American cotton and built in Tennessee. The men's versions have a gusset sewn into the crotch so that the "boys" have a little more room to maneuver. I have three pairs of these and they wear like iron. Occasionally, they can be bought on sale for just over $100 US. On my black ones, I had leather added by my favorite seamstress, Vicki, so that from my knees down I have even more protection from cold and abrasion. I wear these when the thermometer drops below fifty degrees F. I, also, wear Bohn riding underwear (USA made) with the provided armor. Silk glove liners inside my leather gauntlets help immensely on cold rides. When temps are below fifty I start wearing my Classic Leather Jacket with a quilted lining. H-D brand from 1996. Probably the last American made leather that my local Harley shop sold. Size 48 and it still fits perfectly and all of the zippers still work. Nolan helmets fit me best and I have seven or eight of them. Double H brand USA made harness boots which I had a heavy Vibram sole added for better grip when I'm trying to back the old Road King up a little rise in the parking lot. Since I destroyed my lower right leg three years ago while bouncing my Night Rod off a steel highway fence post I, now, slip a wedge shaped piece of CE armor down the inside front of each boot for added protection of those vulnerable shin bones. Believe me, a compound fracture changes your ideas of riding gear. ;-) Hope you're healing ok old man. I know all about pain.

Just look out for the cheap, knocked up in India, jackets and pants. They look the part BUT rip like paper when sliding down the road ! Worth asking people after a crash how the gear went - that is the acid test.

Gears fine for scapes, road burn, etc. But don't do anything for broken bones or other fracture type injuries. Just like a helmet. It may keep your skull from injury but a broken neck is bad news anyway. Smart riding is the real answer to safe, injury free riding. I'm 70 and though I don't ride but once in a while now, I rode for 15 years to work and home and just around, in shorts, jeans, shirts, and coat when cold. Maybe i was lucky, or just road wisely, but i never had a serious fall or accident.
Not trying to debate safty gear. And sports riders and dirt riders, most definitely recommend gear. But even metal armor isn't gonna stop a broken limb. Ride smart, ride safe.

@@phils2180 I also ride defensively. I don't lane slit. I consider automobiles, I don't play dodgeball with them. I ride like I drive. Anticipating things. Being considerate of the rules of the road. Which I see bikers abuse every day.

Actually there’s a very good point there, Riding in shorts and a t-shirt actually can be safer, in that you ride so carefully! 👍🏼👍🏼

      @phils2180 Рік тому

No one would argue that defensive riding, hazard awareness, road reading, event prediction etc, are all essential riding tools and you can go on about them all you like but the plain fact is you can still be taken out by someone/something totally out of your control. Riding accident free for years is commendable but doing so with minimal protection and saying it makes you ride "safer" is foolhardy and no more an excuse for doing so than suiting up in the best gear money can buy and riding like a tw*t, both of which I've done in my younger days 👎and survived thankfully? I was also lucky!

@@MrDarcy-OlMan Mostly if you ride. Sure, anything can happen even riding careful. Blowout, chain break, real idiot driver runs a stop sign. And as I said. I'm not putting gear down, just saying it's not gonna prevent broken bones. And how many of us, totally suit up, for a ride to the corner store. Or down to the pub, haha.

Nice jackets and gloves. I am Amurican so I will now ask about sizing. My sizes run from 50 to 60 US. I think European are sized/marked differently as a few years ago I went to my local Ducati shoppe and saw a jacket marked 60 and it did not fit at ALL. The owner told me that Euro sizes are marked up from ours so a 60 there corresponds to a 50 here in the States. Is this still the case or is England different?
I still have my Triumph leather jacket which is humongous on me now so it sits idle in the closet as I am relatively certain I shall never again wear that size. Dammit! 🤒😁😁😁Thanks for this review of cool stuff, sir. I hope you and your family are all doing well.

I paid 140 quid for Dragster Kevlar jeans a few years back ,I never wore them as they are as stiff as a board & weigh a ton without any armour . Also I can’t wear these modern armoured leather jackets ,they restrict movement especially for making rear observations . I miss my old Wolf leather lancer leather jacket ,the quality of the leather was far superior to the tat that’s being peddled today ,there was no need for armour as the old leathers had thick patches of extra leather in the vulnerable places . My old leather gauntlets had fur lining & there was no need for grotesque heated battery draining grips when wearing them in freezing weather . I don’t like all this armour on modern motorcycle gear , it takes ages to get the stuff on & off & is restrictive . If people are that fearful of risk of injury or death ,they shouldn’t be riding motorcycles ,they should stick to driving around in granny cages .

It is by far my most comfortable helmet. I mainly have the visor unclipped and only clip it when going above 50. It's not so good in cold damp weather because of limited ventilation and it steams up. I would say there is enough room for glasses 👍🏼
