Kyrie lucked out, ending up in Dallas. Cuban has the money to pay him, no problem. If he does well over the next 3 months, he might get paid. Paying Kyrie long-term is always a bad idea. Dallas gave up some decent pieces, so they need some kind of return on Kyrie. This isn't really a rental situation.
They made this trade thinking long-term. The problem is Kyrie is a horrible long-term investment

Cuban is smart with his money, if Kyrie doesn't change or behaves like he did in Brooklyn, he will not sign him for what Kyrie is asking -- $200/4yrs. I'm not sure which owner is willing to shell out that money without a guarantee that he plays majority of his contract. If I'm the owner, I'll structure it with a guaranteed money and then bonus pay after X games played. It's going to be interesting what happens in the off season.
