Lets hear your thoughts!
Unless I'm seeing things, that body has more beef to it than any Gibson SG.
About 3mm or so more. Good eye!
Just bought the album!
Thank you deeply for doing so. I am humbled by your support my friend!
Do jumbo frets make bending easier? :)
Man those things are the closest thing to to speed bumps on a guitar I’ve ever seen!
SO THEN , THIS AXE IS WORTH MUCH MORE THAN ORIGINALLY SPENT .. WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT , WHEN YOU COULD GET A EPIPHONE WITH THE BETTER PUPS & WIRING ? IF YOU WANT A BETTER AXE , YOU BUY ONE .. NOT PURCHASE A NOT SO EXPENSIVE ONE , AND MOD IT ..
Had the Epiphone SG, I would say that while the pots and caps are an improvement over HBs, I still upgraded and put in BB 2&3 along with the wiring. Sonically the HB was better after similar modifications. Particularly in the neck. But again, it’s subjective!
In an electric guitar what matters is the neck and hardware period.
If I can get a very cheap guitar with a neck that I find comfortable and I get to put in whatever electronics I want without having to pay the Gibson or Fender or whatever company's premium then why would I not do that?
Also an epiphone with similarly priced pickups would be more expensive than @USTTRM 's mods to the HB (and the upgrades were done over the span of 2 years).
Now if what you want is a guitar that has a great fit and finish, good wiring, good pickups, good tuners and a comfortable neck without having to do any work then that's a different story.
I'd say the Epiphone SG Standard for $499 Euros might be a one and done solution for someone who's looking for an SG.
I would say the Epiphone for the neck, the HB for overall fit and finish!
Would the combination of the large frets and thin neck be better for a beginner?
I think that there's a myth out there that a smaller neck is best for beginners. I think it's the opposite that it could be a deal breaker for some.
I also think that medium frets would be more comfortable for most on every level. I appreciate you asking! Cheers!
I can tell you like that neck lol. Catch ya Sunday Mike.
LOL! See you Sunday!
