you are right... unless you replace the bmapgmap disc image file on the device with a map of the region you plan on being in with the same name, given the map file is under 2mb. You create the map with bbbikes extracts website, it was quite a challenge to figure out how to do... It is possible. but not reasonable for the average person.
I am writing this in November 2023. The 32X does not have a touch screen as you suggest at least as far as I can tell and Garman's current specs say it has up to a 25 hour battery life not 16 as you say.
i have the etrex 10 ,22x and 30x. the 10 was $60 off ebay. the 22x was $100 off craigslist i bought the 30x brand new $300. i was gonna show someone how to use the the 10 but they backed out of the deal. have 3 gps recievers. ,wilderness navigation (book) says have a backup.
Can the eTrex 22x automatically drop waypoints (breadcrumbs). I am looking for a GPS I can set and forget that if I get lost it will take me back on the same trail I walked out on. Not just a compass heading back to where I started.

The SE does not come with or can be loaded with topographic maps ..only simple gpx tracks transfered from Garming Explorer app.
