I have tested the audio with or without external mic, and it seems that when using the external mic, still the built in mics captures audio that supposedly not. So there are 3 mics captures audio. I think this is a firmware issue.
I have the same setup, and have the mic inside the chin part of a motorbike helmet. It's inside 2 foam socks (the thing is a size of a golf ball). Still when going any faster than 30-40mph just clips so bad that you can't hear anything. The 'volume' setting seems to just change the recording volume, not the mic sensitivity. I hope they sort this out. There don't seem to be any alternatives :'(
I think I found the problem - Internal mic audio is still recording even when "External microphone" is set to ON. Using the latest v1.3 fw. Can everyone please report this on support.sjcam.com/support/tickets/new, and maybe they will fix it!
Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right that the internal mic is still applying some wind noise reduction or still recording somehow when the external mic is plugged in. I wonder if you can block the mic on the camera, maybe with some tape, if that would help
@@DrekiTech It seems like 1.3.1 firmware has solved the issue - now the 'Volume' setting does actually seem to change the input sensitivity, and there is no leaking from the internal mic. Hooray! Not sure 1.3.1 is public, but it's out there, do a search :-)
@Blurpi Gaming Motovlog I did a test: with external mic plugged in a blew air at the internal mic and there was nothing in the waveform, so I believe it's fixed. But I haven't done a proper test with it on my helmet. I'm 99% it's fixed :-)
@@DrekiTech I just bought a SJ8 Plus and an offbrand usb-C mic, but it will not use the external mic. Do you need to do something more than just plug in the mic? Does the cam only accept the sjcam mic? Not alot of info on the internet to be found about this, maybe you know, so i'm giving this message a shot :) thanks for the video though, it does confirm that a mic can work with the PLUS cam.
@@Regge5 that's a great question- I don't have an SJ8 Plus around to test with anymore. Sorry about that! There might be something specific with the pinout on the sjcam branded mic that means it works with their cam. I do have a C200 so maybe I can try it with that.
The sound is absolutely awful with my external mic. I do lots of videos walking along beaches and the sound of the sea is like the mic is sitting in a tin box. Unusable. I wish I had bought a GoPro now.
I and at least one other user have made a custom adapter that allows external mic recording while simultaneously charging the camera, and while the recording actually worked, it was accompanied by a noticeable 60 Hz noise. By analyzing that noise under different conditions, I was able to prove that it was originating not from charging per se, but from the video circuit. SJCAM engineers finally acknowledged that this problem was there as described (see sjcam.com/community/threads/external-stereo-mic-adapter-for-sj8.2481/). Since the camera was useless to me without being able to record while charging, I unfortunately had to sell it.
You are absolutely right. I don't know what the actual issue is and why SJCam fellows have not resolved this as of yet but man this mic was a total waste of my money
Oh man, that video through the woods looks so stable it looks like it's flying!

Turn off the internal microphone.
They update something? Maybe it is a good idea write to the brand
@@nipaipo You can't. There isn't an option to do that
Any updates?
I am planning to buy a sj8 pro, the problem is that external mic record so much unwanted noises, is there any solution of it? Please reply
Same

Same I have experienced with the USB-C mic, so I still need to use an external recorder for sound.
Check my channel how to do a simple fix.
I am having the same issue. The mic setup just sucks. I was using this setup for motovloging but i am totally let down by the set up
Was thinking of buying this mic as i have just bought the SJ8Pro camera which has firmware version 1.3.2 hopefully the mic will be fine with this.
so how was the external mic then ? i'm thinking of buying this cam especially for the external mic
@@discodennis1337 Same
m facing same problem,sj mic is too bad sound quality
Seemed to work better with the Plus.
110%. That's why I think this issue is entirely a firmware problem. Hopefully SJCam does address it :)

Are you use gimbal to record this downhill video? The video looks stable. I like it. Can you inform me what gimbal you used?
I was leaning toward the akaso v50 pro but after finding your channel I’m not sure anymore
Is there a type C connector that can charge while you are using microphone?

I'd be interested in the review of the gitup f1 4k action cam if you can. Cheers!!!
I have watched a lot of your videos. What is the best all around action cam for 150$ or less? You seem to know a lot about all this stuff.
my sj8 pro makes noise even if its dead silent :(

Mine does too. Did you solve the issue ?
@@StanDaManReviews sadly no, hope the external mic could solve it but its not cheap
