    I love this guy! He is a superb demonstrator, insanely funky, multi styled, and his descriptions and 'westonisms' make me laugh.
    An Item hasn't been reviewed, until he has reviewed it!

    Great review - as ever - it reinforces the fact that someone with talent can get an awful lot out of quite a modest set-up.

    Wow I love this synth! Sounds the same as when I borrowed my buddies over 30 years ago. The pricing is great for the iPad, and since they have sales every few months I got the main program and expansion cards for a very low price. Thanks for the demo and thanks Korg!

    Although you need in-app purchases to get the extra 'soundcards' which are included in the Korg M1 VST, remember that the iM1 is only £15 (in the UK). I paid £100 for the Korg Digital Collection VSTs (M1 plus Wavestation)! And I thought that was a must-have bargain.

    I have both KORG LEGACY & KORG iM1, but no original M1.
    What I think is that the iM1 has more clear sound, but that doesn't mean it has more "deep & thick" sound, probably due to original M1's output.

    I liked the comparison with the original M1. I used to own one of those, and I sold it, regretted it until I got the Korg Legacy Collection with the M1 KLC, which allowed me to reproduce almost faithfully the music that I made on the M1. One advantage is that one can put an M1 on each track, which lets you use the individual effects of each and every sound. Then came the iM1 and Gadgets combination, which I strated using with pleasure... I guess Korg won't stop surprising us! ;)

  • @narekmusic
    @narekmusic 9 років тому +1

    well it doesn't sound like the M1. I have both legacy pack and iM1 and also the real M1. M1 sounds way different. And if you have trained ears you will notice that the iM1 is actually not sounding "clear", it actually sounds "brighter" (guess they couldn't hide the digital factor so they made it a little brighter with the use of an EQ.
    You can check it yourself. The M1 has way more details than the vst versions

    • @emilshere
      @emilshere 9 років тому +3

      Narek Keyz You cant say it doesnt sound like the M1.... it may not sound as good to you, but it definitely sounds similiar

    • @EarmonkeyMusic
      @EarmonkeyMusic 9 років тому +6

      Narek Keyz It doesn't sound like an M1? They couldn't hide the digital factor? Strange comments.
      The iM1 doesn't seem to sound exactly the same, but it definitely sounds like an M1. And it costs $30 right now so it's kind of a no brainer if you don't have an M1 lying around. The M1 in this demo does seem to have more "oomph" if that's a technical word. That could be due to a number of things including the recording technique. But if you did a mix in a real song with mastering and EQ and other instruments, the iM1 would definitely sound "like" an M1. Digital and everything. Why not just admit that it's a pretty damn good little app and not let your big M1 be threatened by it.

    • @narekmusic
      @narekmusic 9 років тому +2

      JimBobJrJackson Earmonkey Ok let me be more specific: this app won't be able to "replace" the real deal. At least not for musicians who know the sound of the M1 very well. As I said I don't rely on the sound quality in this video, I have the M1 and the iM1 and did a comparison. There are many things that differe which you can't find in this short video. The filters react different and also the touch.
      Depending on what you are aiming for...yes you can use it, or someone who doesn't have the budget or maybe access to the M1.
      I've been doing professional recording for 12 years now, and my advice to every musician would be: use as little vst recreation as possible :)
      Cheers

    • @emilshere
      @emilshere 9 років тому +2

      Narek Keyz I think the old school guys are afraid of vst's because it is progess and some people dont want to change. This app certainly does sound like an M 1 .I love all the plug ins of today and i can make them sound damn good.even if i still hAD MY T1 I wouldnt go thru the trouble of recording it when there are plug ins like the korg legacy series that has all the t1 sounds. and they DO sound like the t1. Do i care if the eq response is different? nope. Im going to process it when I mix it anyway.

    • @narekmusic
      @narekmusic 9 років тому +1

      emilshere I'm a young guy and not afraid of using vst, In fact I help companies to develop vsts. I use it when I don't have a choice. This is so ridiculous what you just said. Progress? If we would progress, we wouldn't have to go back and try to emulate a keyboard that came out first in 1988 ;)
      I won't argue with you, do it your way and I will do it my way. As I said, a pro musician and a pro studio would ALWAYS prefer the real deal. Not because it's a piece gear...because it sounds like gold. It's not fun at all to keep those gears, but when you hear their sound in action you forget about all the problems ;)
      cheers

    2-octave M1? No. Let's face it, the iPad doesn't look as cool as the M1. Look and feel of a musical instrument is very critical. With software only solutions running on consumer hardware, is simply not the same thing.

    • @st0rmchild
      @st0rmchild 4 роки тому

      The sound is coming from the iPad, not the keyboard. You can use any controller with it. He just happens to be using a two octave one.

  • @gzaq
    @gzaq 8 років тому

    the ipad version sounds a lot thinner and gets lost in the mix while the original will not, this is due to the hardware output amp section and the 32Khz sampling limit NOT replicated in the new software version :(

    The original M1 just once again proves that hardware is superior. Even with a 1:1 software emulation, there's still all the physical electronics, the DAC, etc.that responds to the environment, temperature, humidity, etc. in ever so small amounts but it all influences the sound, even in a 'stable' instrument like a synthesiser. Software can never be as authentic as the hardware it emulates.

    • @c4rlosraven
      @c4rlosraven 9 років тому +11

      Again with that "hardware is superior" bullshit,
      you don't even know how to spell Synthesizer.
      Learn shit first.
      The software is powerful,clear,the same as the original synth.
      Stop with the bullshit.

    • @tristanpantano3248
      @tristanpantano3248 9 років тому +13

      sys2074 ..... Are you dense?
      The Korg M1 is a digital synthesizer. The quality of an emulation is entirely dependent on how well the new software is coded to match the old software.
      "there's still all the physical electronics, the DAC, etc."
      ... Tell me, how do you think an iPad functions, or outputs sound? Do you think it travels through the magic modern technology bus of 'not as good as hardware' output? You do realize that be it an iPad, or a computer, or a portable music listening device, it has to have a DAC, right?
      The stability you speak of is something pertinent to *analog* gear, which the Korg M1 isn't. Analog vs. Digital is a whole different can of worms, but claiming that a digital piece of hardware is somehow more susceptible to temperature fluctuations and cosmic woo magic than an iPad (which is itself a *digital piece of hardware*) is outright stupid.

      Carl Robert only because she misspelled something doesn't mean she is wrong

    • @narekmusic
      @narekmusic 9 років тому

      Tristan Pantano You are so wrong. It's not all about the software even if it's digital. The Electronics used to produce the sounds are involved. The D/A converters...these processors are not the regular processors used in your computer! Those are specially manufactured to do a certain task.
      "there's still all the physical electronics, the DAC, etc."
      "... Tell me, how do you think an iPad functions, or outputs sound?"
      Yes the iPad functions the same way but doesn't have the same characteristics. If you can't hear the difference even in this video (which is only a mp3 version, not even a wave file) then you should think twice before criticizing others. I've worked with a lot of companies trying to recreate "close" models of old synthesizers like the roland d-50, yamaha dx7 etc. Ask anyone you want who is a pro in this business and they will confirm what I said. As for now (6/22/2015) there is NO software that can come even close to the real hardware (and it doesn't matter if the hardware is digital or analog)! This is fact.

    • @emilshere
