    I have two modified plash palatkas. Wore one last night to retrieve my trailcam while it was raining in the middle of winter. Was reminded how much I love it. Those things are perfect!

    Lars this is what makes your channel one of the best on UA-cam and my favorite channel. You are always trying, testing and playing be it a pass or fail.We finally came out of the deep freeze today and got enough snow that I was able to plow for the first time in a month, and it hit -6c today and on Wednesday when I go to the tent they are calling for 2c, crazy weather Lars.
    Have a great week ahead my good friend....Fred

    Plash palatka/tent halves in general are pretty versatile and useful, even if low-tech. In reenactment we've built basic 4 man tents out of 6-8 of them. Tack för en bra video som vanligt :)

    Just a suggestion. Once you get it Fine-tuned to your measurements, just get some PVC pipe, make the poles to your length, cut them down and add the slip fittings. Then just wrap the Plashs around them, add some Cords and Stakes, then put them in your Sled. When you are ready to set up Camp, you should be ready to go in 10 minutes. That should save a lot of time to get the Big Logs for the Siberian Log Fire. Shoot that heat into the Shelter, you should be Warm as Toast! Heck, close off the back and sides with Snow, drop a Plastic Sheet over the front for a Super Shelter, you could probably sleep Naked! Hope this helps.

    Awesome poncho tent Lars! Cool to see the doggies sniffing around as well, especially interesting will be to see how big Boss gets once full-grown. That Evenk coal-bed sounds intriguing, can't wait for when you show how it is put together!

    Always preferred ponchos for shelters as it can double as rain gear when not used as a shelter.
    Having a second one works well with a poncho liner as a sleeping bag, or to accommodate a few more people.

    Awesome video as always Lars!
    That's a good idea to use a length of cord instead of buttons. Can't have buttons tearing off if there aren't any!
    But yeah, that looks like a cozy tent!
    Your dogs have gotten huge! I hope they work out well. I really like how the fur looks on Boss.
    I think it was your previous video that you mentioned the 12 Wolves. I hope they don't cause any trouble this year.
    That idea of having a giant tent made of many of these plash Palatkas sounds awesome! I'm sure it'd be a fun project, maybe something you and Sergey could do together.

    More ridge poles from the a frame to back base might support snow loading? Get some mushers secret for the dogs feet, it works great, prevents snow packing!

    i just bought two Serbian canvas ponchos to use together like this,
    already have two german zeltbahns in a huge diamond configuration,
    which i used on a recent camping trip,
    i much prefer canvas to synthetic fabric, less noise, less reflection when wet
    and i like the fact i dont have to worry about embers from the fire,

    Hello Lars... I really enjoyed this video. Maybe because this is the way I have been (lol - been doing for fun and work I enjoy) since kid growing up in the mountains where the wilderness backyard kept going for miles. This is the stuff that makes me happy and feel free.

  • @GaerHampton
    @GaerHampton 7 років тому

    Ah, ok, that makes more sense to just lace them together. I've been able to use the toggles on either side to button them together, but then you have the weird spot in the middle where the two tarps crisscross leaving a gap. Even so, I managed to rig up a great shelter just using the two plash palatkas, some cordage and rope, two ski/hiking poles, and stakes.

    Concept to reality is a great ability to possess. We seem to not use that ability a lot independently in today’s society. Great video, it demonstrates another way to get out, get it done and do something awesome! 😎 Also, great info of how to join the two halves! There is always a proper way and the alternatives.

    Morning Lars. I really loved it mate, you can make that a real home from home with a wee bit of work. Long Siberian fire, windbreaks and insulation to the rear, it would work great. Not sure about your night time dreams, lol, you may need to speak to the therapist about those, waking up thinking about A frames, lol. :-) I am guessing this is really a winter setup as you can use the sled but in Summer it would be a bit of a Schlepp getting all the gear in? not sure about that. Any how, waffling. Cheers mate. ATB Moose.

    I've seen people use the Molle II kidney belt both ways and i have no idea how it was designed to be used but the most important part is that its comfortable. If it works it works no need to do extra work. The only thing i don't like with shelters like these is that the insects will eat you alive during the warmer months of the year and yes i know you can ignore them but when going out as a civilian i prefer to have a good nights sleep :)

    Hi Lars, I have seen the photo of the ⛺️ tent the students used in the Dynatlov incident, it certainly was a long ⛺️ tent for a ridge A frame design and I do wonder if it was constructed from plash palatkas? One constructed from 9 or 10 palatkas would certainly have enough room to accommodate all the students. Your thoughts on this please. J D.

    Ok, just a suggestion. Not know if it is good or bad?? But if you took two long sticks and made a large V frame, with a short vertical stik under at the connection point as support and "ground clearance device" then the sides would automatically have more support. Of cause that might give a problem with water running down the middle and leaking into the shelter, where the Plash Palatkas are tied together, but maybe one can tie them out so tense, that it is not a problem, or in winter, with snow, it might not be a problem, as long as the snow is not melting and water starts running and so???? Just an (maybe stupid??) idea, I just got, but you can test it, unless you can see, that it will not work, just by thinking it through?? Nice day no matter what!!! :o)

    • @SurvivalRussia
      @SurvivalRussia  7 років тому +1

      It's not a bad idea, and during winter I don't see it as a problem :)

    • @throatnotchingtroutzzz6789
      @throatnotchingtroutzzz6789 7 років тому

      Hmmm no. I must say, that I actually got so curious, that I just "tested" it out with two paper handkerchiefs and two wood kitchen spoons. (My father is an (retired) engineer, what can I do?? Seen many mini models of things during my childhood. :o) )
      It will work it seems, but it will work best, if you turn the plash palatka rectangle so, that the WHOLE length is supported by the sticks. Then the problem is also smaller, even in rain, as you just put the "Upper" plash palatka close to the connection point above the "Under" plash palatka, that then is close to the ground. Like the Finnish Helsingkipop channel guy is doing in this rain plash palatka test video. ua-cam.com/video/KczqSLDtYlU/v-deo.html Do not come and say, that kitchen things are not useful for all sorts of things. Nice day!! :o)

I was out looking for an unlucky animal last night and had a brew up before heading home. My cup of tea tasted like ass. I tried normal dish wash and a bottle brush but the flavour still leaches into the water.
