WPL C74 JA11 Jimny Makeover - Because I Can’t Leave Them Stock

- Here is one of the most recent releases from WPL, and it is a neat one.
Myself however can not leave my tiny trucks stock, I therefore went and stripped the chassis down to then build upon it.
One of the main things I changed was the transmission as the WPL 2 Speed is by far my favourite transmission in their lineup, not to mention the second gear will allow this little SJ to have a sufficient top end for trail runs.

Another part of the chassis which was changed was the axle set, the included factory plastic axles were replaced with the WPL metal axle kit for improved steering angle as well as added weight down low.

While installing the new axles, I also installed the WPL Shock Absorbers to aid the leaf springs and dampen the suspension. These were mounted to the axles using the WPL Brass Ball Ends.

Upon installing the axles I mounted up an anti-wrap bar using the 59mm WPL links and Rod Ends to lessen the stress on the leaf springs.

I wanted to go for a more modified look and therefore looked at replacing the bulky factory bumper. In place of the factory example went this High Clearance Front Bumper which was originally designed for the C54, all it needed to be bolted up was a little bracket.

After all of the chassis work, I dressed this little SJ up with various Tamiya paints as well as some wooden planking.
And there it is, a very neat little truck, packed with tons of scale detail for a great price.

SBG decal. Classic. I use to follow tiny trucks in the woods with Kevin Jowett way back in the day of crawl Canada. Fun. We also raced scale drag cars. Drift and race in my basement track. 😁

A hint maybe, for light buckets: I'm using a Molotov Liquid Chrome pen. It is almost like a real chrome finish.
Fantastic, this is the first of many i hope to see of this truck! Mind is still in the box. Seems like everyone wanted the week before Christmas off and the week after. I'll open it one day, it might be next year!

with the c24 style shocks, stab the the shaft through some bicycle innertube then superglue it in place, then cut the innertube material until its just wider than the screw head, then add some 2millionCST diff syrup into the shock and it becomes awesome. i have them on a MN99 and they are the best shocks i have ever used, they can absorb a drop from 2ft with no bounce.
edit. my mn99 is a franken truck and i can swap the body and wheels to turn it into a c24 monster truck :D

Correct, they indeed are the battery wires, all of the electronics are up front whereas the battery compartment is in the back,
It is simply an extension from the esc to the battery compartment.

Great build, watching carefully I'm wondering about the shocks? What hardware did you use for mountain top and lower shocks. I'd like to do something similar to an old B1? Can you let me know when you have time?

The shocks simply bolt on using the standard WPL hardware.
The C14K/C24K is the spare hardware pack that consists of the correct screws,

It is called a Axle Truss,
They are mostly used to strengthen the main axle housing as well as provide additional mounting points for links or shocks.

Indeed, especially if planning to modify from the very beginning.
However, the kit is not yet available therefore tearing the ready to run is the best current option.
