    Thank you! I really enjoy learning about artists’ favorite tools. I especially enjoyed learning more about the fountain pens and dip nibs. Also, what brand of pencil extender do you use? It’s so pretty!

      It's an older extender that I got locally, unfortunately I don't know which brand.

    Very helpful video, thank you! I would love another video on your colored pencils choices and how you use them for sketching with watercolor. I also want to know what sharpener you are using, they have great points! Thank you!

      I'm working on the colored pencil topic...it will come at some point, promised! I just need to test out a few more pencils. About the sharpener, it's the Dahle 133 pencil sharpener. Easily one of my all-time favorite tools in the studio, it produces excellent points!

    Great video! Like you, my essentials are a fountain pen and a mechanical pencil. I've been experimenting lately with the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen with black ink and love it for dark values - especially for windows. Thanks for sharing with us!

    I like the tools you use and I am now inspired to get back into using ditp nibs. I like to sketch with 2B pencils and an eraser. I like to always have a pencil sharpener nearby. My favorite pens are Tombow Fudenosuke calligraphy and hard tip pens. I like to color with a small set of winsor newton watercolors.

    Very helpful video Julia! I may have to get that Emma ink, it looks like a pretty olive color. My favorite drawing tools are my pencils, I have way too many, and lately I've been into the triangular shape of the Faber Castell Grip 2001 in HB. I also use Stabilo water-soluble pencils in black, brown and graphite; 3.15 mm clutch pencils; General's Layout for loose sketches and a mechanical Pentel Sharp P205 for precise lines. My go to sketching pen with waterproof ink is the EF Platinum Carbon Desk Pen - it never skips or clogs and I've had it for about 3 years. I also enjoy the Derwent Graphitint pencils for nature journaling. I'm looking forward to your video about colored pencils!

      The olive green of the Emma ink is definitely pretty and I love using it! The Pentel Sharp seems to be a true classic. Water-soluble pencils are interesting, I only have one and I'll need to test it more to see what it can do. The Graphitint pencils sound like an interesting addition and I have eyed them for a while...so many great tools out there, I need to be careful not to fill up all the nice empty spaces I've created by minimalizing art supplies. 😄

    Great content, thanks. I've not seen that super slender mono eraser before, I like it. I use a drafter's eraser shield but you can't always see what's going on. Also, some of my non-refillable pens, (felt or brush tipped) have become interesting dip pens.

      I really like that idea of reusing empty pens as dip pens, great tip!

    A very enjoyable video, thanks.
    I will be searching out one of the pencil extenders ASAP.
    As for fountain pens I never got on with the Lamy pens as the always dried out for me so I found the TWSBI-ECO is just perfect for me. It has an easy fill large capacity and I have four of them with different nib sizes and ink colours.

    • @NatureSketchbook
      @NatureSketchbook  2 роки тому

      Thanks for the reminder, the TWSBI-ECO is a pen that I've wanted to try out to see if I like it for my style of work. Have you tried filling it with waterproof fountain pen ink? My Lamy pens only dry out when I'm not using them regularly, are easily reactivated and they do come at a great price (at least for me here locally), that's why I've been sticking to them.

    I always love to see what other artists keep in their tool kits. Yours is somewhat different than most and I find those differences to be fascinating. I never thought to use a dip pen for white highlights, but it seems a logical idea. Using a dropper to place the ink seems clean, even out in the field. I may need to give this a try. BTW, I know you say your tools are not fancy, but those are the best kind! As for my sketch kit, I keep it in a small Saki Pencil roll. A Uni Kura Toga .5 with HB lead and a Blue Staedter Mars pen shaped eraser. General's Sketch & Wash graphite Pencil. Sakura Pigma Micron in Sepia, your same uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen, a 6" plastic ruler and two fountain pens. One is a Sailor Fude Nib which I love for its varied lines and the other is a F nib Platinum Century. Both have de Atramentis Document Ink Black.

    I used to use white gel pens but have transition to the white ink/gouache or the titanium white and touch up powder on top of colored pencils because it is archival. I have some dip pens but never use them, I think I got them in an art box but would be full to pull them out again.

    • @NatureSketchbook
      @NatureSketchbook  2 роки тому +1

      I've never tried touch up powder, I'll have to try that. Good tip to keep everything archival!

    • @NaomiCoutureArt
      @NaomiCoutureArt 2 роки тому

      @@NatureSketchbook it’s from brush and pencil, 2 products you mix together touch up texture and titanium white but you can get amazing white highlights so easily and the fact it’s archival is a huge bonus 😄

      I've never seen it offered here in Germany, but I'll keep my eyes open. Although I would be careful with loose powders of any kind and avoid inhaling them. Please be careful when you use it (I'm sure you are, I'm just putting this here as a reminder for everyone). 💚

    Thank you for sharing. I've been curious about trying fountain pens but the truth is that I'm more comfortable with pencils. But I have dip nibs and I used to loved them, maybe I need to try them again. I'm afraid that with a fountain pen I would forget about using it for months and by the time I remember about it, it will be all clogged.

    • @NatureSketchbook
      @NatureSketchbook  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, give your dip nibs another try. :-) If you don't use your fountain pen so often, it's safer to fill it with non-waterproof ink, that way it won't clog that often and it can usually be reactivated with water easily.

    • @paulinabm_

      @@NatureSketchbook thank you for the tip! If I do stick with the dip nibs I will reward myself with a fountain pen and non waterproof ink 😊

    What ink do you use for your dip pens? The bottle looks different than the bottle for fountain pens

      I use different acrylic inks for the dip pens, this should be Rohrer Drawing Ink. :)

    Could u let me know what the dip pen holder was named?I'm just beging to dip my toe into dip pens( lol) and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with product info I've seen other videos I just dont want to buy anything from china so do you have a video on just dip pens not made in China with the information of where we can buy them I know I can get some few products from john neal bookstore in north Carolina in usa... but ......on line but no one ever give in description where the country the product is manufactured in. Thank you for your help I subscribed to your channel as I saw your video on fountian pens and how to change the ink I like them very thought out and seems doable for a beginner to understand, so I subscribed to learn more info before purchasing anything as I have to save up a while for a new art supply every item I get has to work well and is precious to me...lol mikelle art mom learning new skills ✍🎨

      Thanks for your interest and that's certainly a huge undertaking trying to avoid China products. To be honest I usually don't research the smaller items in my kit, like dip pen holders. It's just a no name holder from my local (German) store, and I assume they import at least some products that were manufactured in China. You could ask places like John Neal (they're usually very friendly), another possibility is going for handmade holders from Etsy (most certainly more expensive). I'm sorry I can't help you more with this, I hope you'll find good local pen holders! :-)

      @@NatureSketchbook yes thank you for your reply..I do buy alot of German supplies believe it, with pencils and watercolor metallic paint....and your country makes awesome pencil sharpeners I've got a list of two that I'm asking for my birthday ,yes I'd was gonna ask at the bookstore I just didnt want to seem ill informed on them(dip pens and nibs) I also did see some beautiful handcrafted ones that were wooden on esty around$ 85.00 that's on my lottery win bucket art list...thank you for your suggestions tho, I know it's a big deal to not buy china products but I've had to really get into internet search engines on products but the greatest thing is that I've seen how many products are made by so many ther workers in our world that take pride in their jobs and products and I feel like I'm being responsible by supporting those companies that take care of their workers...many art blessing to you today....and for you response also...

    How do you use watreproof ink with a fountain pen? Isn't it suppose to ruin your pen?

    • @NatureSketchbook
      @NatureSketchbook  2 роки тому +1

      There are waterproof inks that can be used in fountain pens, the one I showed here and a few others. Of course it's never good to let ink sit unused in a fountain pen for long.
