      Interesting topic, higher octane fuel and mileage. I have yet to see proof. 1-2 mpw isn't an increase. Especially when you find they filled up at different times of the day, different stations etc. Had this thought......fuel economy testing on the rollers. Idk if it would be good for the rollers running for that long continuously? 99% wouldn't care but I would haha. Awesome car, I have the exact same one.

    From the perspective of someone that personally does not like modern era VWs after working on them for a bit in a dealership... I will admit I like the 2.5L 5. And out of the cool stuff I did get to drive (because most modern VWs are great to drive) the one car I would own personally is a 2.5L Rabbit. I drove one and was in awe of how fun it was without trying. Also, I do love the pre-Dieselgate TDI.... When I got 52 miles per gallon out of a Passat on the interstate at 70-80 MPH, with NO lack for acceleration in 6th gear.... I fell in love.

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  2 роки тому +2

  • @snoopdaclown
    @snoopdaclown 2 роки тому +1

    It made what it's quoted at with the 87. Quoted at 150 with 06-08.5, so running better fuel would get a little more power. And people wanted to say the car was tuned from factory with 91 octane if that's the case it wouldn't make 150hp on 87octane.

    • @jamesgeorge4874
      @jamesgeorge4874 Рік тому

      @@carlospacheco8640 it ain't about the block, skippy, it's the rods and pistons. The tune better be spot on, the higher the output on OEM bottom end, the more critical, and if the ring gap isn't opened first, I suspect that would be the first major issue, actually. Frankly, "the block failed" is the _least_ likely problem you are going to hear about _ANY_ engine, except maybe a Northstar....

      @relicgamer2137 the 2.5 is 10.8 to 1 compression ratio which is considered high compression so yes without the correct octane you'll experience detonation
      This is the reason when putting a turbo on a naturally aspirated VR engine we use a head spacer with two head gaskets to drop compression to around 8-8.5 to 1 so there's room for boost

    You're absolutely correct about an NA car... Bolt-ons, tuning and some cams are the best/ only mods if you aren't throwing a snail on it. O7K FTW! There's a reason they're one of my favorite 'newer' VW/ Audi powerplants. Even when I was turning wrenches at the multiple stealerships I was at and the O7K was brand new there were like no issues with them. They're super reliable and the sound!!! Yeah 87 is trash. Throw some premium in it and the car will thank you. Not to mention the difference internally compared to a car that's been run on shit gas to one ran solely on premium. Here in NY we have 93 and that's ALL I EVER RAN. Not just on a car with a tune or a chipped EPROM where it's mandatory but everything will benefit from the better fuel. I think Spinni needs to throw a 3071 or similar 'SpinniBOI' on that thing. Keep it close to stock on the outside with a set of lightweight wheels/ sticky tires, some coilovers/ bushings, brakes and it'll be a sleeper, looking like it's basically a stock 2.5 Golf. Magnaflow makes one of the best aftermarket/ universal application mufflers. They last a while, are cheap, and sound great. Same thing with the Vibrant 'Stealth' cans. Another great choice. Just switching to those mufflers/ mandrel/ larger diameter piping, and no crush bends makes a huge difference. Good vid, definitely enjoyed it. Appreciate the share!🙂💪👍

      If it's knocking, then 100% better octane will make more power as it allows the ECU/Engine to run more timing. If it's not knock then no, however this one was so yes octane would help it.

    Watching this episode another time it still drives me crazy that spinny won't put the correct octane in it... it clearly says to do so in the owners manual and the backside of the fuel door
    Doesn't make sense to starve it

    Why would you put a slower detonating fuel in a n/a ? Do these have high compression? My experience is high octane detonates slower and you use that for force induction or high compression engines.

      All depends on quality of parts, and labor rates in your area. Also expect that the studs are rusted to nothing (depending on where you are) so expect some extra time for that.
