    I think Phil actually miss read Mike and was raising on what was perceived ‘weakness in his mind’ not knowing his opponent had the second best flush. Mike is so tight he helped make this bluff work though still got to give Ivy credit for great play even if his timing was a little lucky.

    • @raukurawaihaha

      I think he understood that a weak raise on the river indicates a club but not the Ace.

Plus they’re playing for stakes that high, I’m really sure that’s any easy snap call when the only thing you beat is basically a completely random, ballsy bluff.

      @CipherSerpico 2 роки тому +3

      @@Furthermore23 First, as far as full houses:
      Ivey, *without question,* has 77 & J7s in his range.
      He also occasionally has J6s, J4s; and although it probably wouldn’t be as common-the occasional 44 and 66.
      I think he’d be more likely to slowplay J6 than 44.
      So, Mike’s King High Flush loses to those hands.
      Next, Ivey definitely has at least 6 combinations of AcXc hands that would’ve flatted pre-flop.
      (A2, A3, A5, A8, A9, A10).
      All of those hands would flat pre, and although those hands would raise the flop a decent percentage, they’re going to be flatting the flop a decent percentage, as well.
      So, all of those hands _also_ beat Mike.
      Next, Ivey can have all the different combos of A4 A6 that have the bare Ace of clubs.
      And he’ll occasionally have the Ace of Clubs with a Jd or Js, that he chose to just flat on the flop.
      Next, there are two other hands Ivey could have that beat Mike: 3c5c & 5c8c.
      Although, Ivey _probably_ primarily raises straight-flush draws the flop, he would definitely occasionally have those in his range. I’m not sure if he’d be more likely to raise the flop with one of those-more than the other; But, I’d guess that he’d be more likely to flat the flop with 8c5c since that has less outs than 3c5c; Although, he may have looked at it the opposite way.
      So: Ivey *definitely* has 77 and J7s in his range 100% of the time.
      He has a decent percentage of (suited-clubs) A2, A3, A5, A8, A9, A10.
      As well as the bare Ace with Ac4x, Ac6x.
      He occasionally has 66, 44, J6, J4s, AcJd, AcJs.
      And although rare, he could also have 8c5 and 3c5c…
      Can anyone tell me all the possible bluffs Ivey can have in this spot-That make Mike’s fold “so horrible”?

    The way Phil Ivey "talks trash" reminds me of my mother. Years ago, my son and I were visiting my parents during the NBA Finals. My parents, although in their late 70's at the time, had the NBA Ticket and would watch the Golden State Warriors no matter how late they played and were big fans of Steph Curry. My son has been a fan of LeBron James from the time he knew what a basketball was and we had all retired to the family room after a wonderful dinner. Kevin Durant was giving the entire Cavaliers team a lesson and their lead seemed to be growing by the minute. My mom brought my son a generous portion of cake and ice cream, handed it to him, and then asked, "Are you enjoying the game?" She then sat down next to him in her recliner, returned her gaze to the game with a wry smile on her face. It was kind and brutal at the same time.

Mike was criticizing the play where Ivey won a large pot against the young bad player (forgot his name) with the Ace high flush and was called with King high flush. He said that was the worst call he ever saw. Then Ivey needled him about when he laid down king high flush. The mouth said he put Ivey on full=house.

(people for some reason remember their suits with Aces more than other pairs. The funny thing is Mike later on said he put Ivey on a full-house. This deduction makes no sense based on how the hand was played. This is why Mike has gone broke many times and needs to get staked for tournaments. Its actually surprising how some players don't study the game who you see on TV. Only a few have taken their games to higher levels due to admitting the game has evolved. If you look at the way the hand was played, this is a great hand to bluff by Phil. Matusow was the original raiser from middle position representing a strong preflop hand (big to mid pairs, AK, AQ). Phil on the other hand is in the big blind and could be defending with a number of hands (mid to small pairs, suited connectors, Broadway hands. So Phil has in his range sets of 4s, 6s, and 7s. He also has some Js, AJ, KJ, QJ, J10. He also has the made straight draw in his range 35. Phil is also most likely to have the A of clubs in this spot giving the idea that he could be calling preflop with any big Ace or Suited Ace.. Phil is most likely betting on the idea that the only strong hands that Matusow has is an over pair, or a few A of clubs, and the unlikely JJ. Maybe Matusow has a few Broadway J hands.the likelihood of him folding to a raise is very high based on all the hands Phil cold have him beat with. I'm all, it was the correct fold by Matusow, even though he had Phil beat in hand. And it was a good spot to bluff by Phil . So to some things up, either Matusow has the board dominated with quad Js or a Broadway hand with the A of club. Or he has a marginal hand that can be folded to a raise. Phil Phil on the other hand could have any boat, Nut flush, or a straight.

    • @fritzzz1372
      @fritzzz1372 2 роки тому +13

      You do realise that Matusow beats straights and trips like AJ? He's got a flush himself, and the second best one at that.
      So I think the fold is probably incorrect since Matusow is almost at the top of his range here. If he fold the King of clubs here, I think he can be too easily bluffed in this spot.

    • @FattyMateo
      @FattyMateo Рік тому

      @@fritzzz1372@fritzzz1372 thank you for saying it. This guy wrote a book in a yt comment and doesn't seem to realize Mike had the 2nd nut flush. He loses to full house and Ac only.
      For MM to believe Phil has Ac, he must believe Phil called the bet on the flop with A high and then checked to the aggressor when he turned the nut flush draw. PI would not check the nut flush draw on the turn out of position to a guy who just c bet the flop. He finally got big equity in the hand, I think he would bet that.
      Most importantly, with 4 to a flush on the board, Ac out of position is very unlikely to check that to the guy who slowed on the turn when the 3rd club hit. He's at risk of not getting his value bet paid for hitting the 2nd nuts.
