On the evening of March 27, 1999, amidst NATO’s Operation Allied Force, the F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft, nicknamed “Something Wicked” and under the command of Lt. Col. Dale Zelko, was downed by a Serbian missile system led by Col. Zoltán Dani. Despite the F-117’s design to avoid radar detection, Dani’s clever use of primitive radars and nimble missile units allowed the Serbians to locate and strike the plane.
