Bit of an experiment video today! It's basically a character-based twist on "Guild Wars 2 Mysteries". Hoping to find that sweet spot for fun lore videos to make that also are interesting to you guys, so watching the comments and stats closely! The "tier list" experiment went really well so I'm feeling inspired!
@WoodenPotatoes I very much enjoyed this. I have been wanting to suggest character lore/analysis videos for a while, but I was unsure if it is something you would be interested in doing. I really would like to see a factual (un-biased) telling of Braham's entire story since many didn't meet him in Season 1 or that blog post about his parents. I have always wondered if the community's response to him would be warmer if he had had a proper introduction, same with Rox. Moving forward, I think it would be brilliant to make separate videos for both Marjory and Kasmeer also since they will be starring in EoD and some players may have skipped previous story(ies). I'm personally really hoping we get some payoff on the hiccups/lie detecting/secret Mesmer gang in EoD.
Please more character spotlights! This was a really cool video, I enjoyed it a lot and would love to see more of these. Thanks for all the content, WP!
As a veteran who still missed vast majority of season 1, this is really cool to watch. Especially with how long ago this story went on hiatus it's good to have a refresher.
Omg i never clicked on a video of yours so fast. I always wanted to know more aobut Mai Trinn. I was here during season 1 and played through it all and Mai Trinn was a character i got stuck in but felt she was dumped in the mist and Aetherblade which is also a favorite is still a part of the game but sort of just there. When i saw her in the airship with that Asura i knew the story is gonna be good.
I made a character based on Mai Trin, because of how well designed she was, but i ended up changing a few things so she wasn't a carbon copy, but her and Xera are probably the two most interesting female protagonists in the game, outside of the obvious one's like Scarlet, and Faolin post HoT era.
Love this character spotlight, and would love to watch more! I think Lady Kasmeer would be an interesting one to spotlight, as she has been with us since Season 1. Like Mai Trin, important things happened to Kasmeer in season 1 that shaped who she is now (those in the community who haven’t played season 1 might appreciate learning about it). I think she has also had a lot of character growth over the course of the story.
Please more videos like this! About characters, but I would also like lore spotlights about maps! The story told on the map, interesting events there, etc.
Thank you for this, like so many others I missed season 1 so this is perfect to explain Mai's story so far. I'd love more lore/character videos, sometimes I glaze over or just forget story points entirely so I've always found your stuff useful, plus you do write and narrate it so well that it flows and is easy to follow.
Not only do I like these, but I feel like any lore videos leading up to and explaining the context for end of dragons are gonna be really big right before it drops. WP still holds the title as THE lore guy , and videos like this are why (even thoughh he is more of a variety channel and has always done more than lore). I had forgotten almost everything about this character. Great video
I love these kinds of videos! I played all through these patches, but it's so easy to forget they ever even happened so these kinds of refreshers are always helpful. I also just love any kind of lore mystery speculation videos so this is awesome!
I really like this format- feels like a rebranding of your Mysteries of Tyria series, but directly pointed at the new story! As we get close enough to know quite a bit about the expansion, I'd love to see more of the potential mysteries presented like this! Also after watching your Jade Sea review it occurs to me- sky pirates would be the best kind of pirates for the Jade Sea, now wouldn't they?
Thanks WP! As someone who joined halfway through season 2, I really appreciate getting caught up. Otherwise my trend is just a fractal boss with no more depth than those three golems that I fight at once.
I'm all for videos of this sort! That said, I still don't understand what people find compelling about Mai Trin, but even if I'm not hooked I still appreciate the review.
More more more of this please! It is getting me excited for the lore. I played GW2 since beta et gw1 like a mad man and the lore never really stuck with me somehow. I need good vids like that to catch up. Thanks
Although I knew most of it since I remember Season 1 quite good, I did find some new info here that I perhaps forgot, and for that, thank you. I can tell you that yes, I would like to see more of those kind of spot-light vidoes, I think they are super important for players to know these key chareters. If you do 1 on Marjory, please please PLEASE show the community the Marjory's Journal that plays the Hard Boiled cinematic, I think it's a nice video that and is forgotton since it was only in Season 1.
a spotlight on E themselves would be good - I missed S1 and only got the letters from E in the Lake Doric patch so no idea where all that started and how.
These will be great to help people get up to speed and find a well-produced, concise overview of these "lost" characters. Great idea. Also, I've been doing a lot of research on the Asura and the Inquest specifically lately and it's really cool their numerous affiliations with Scarlet. It seems that she had a close bond with the Asuran Teyo while she was studying in Rata Sum, and once she decided she needed to speed up her research, she enlisted the Inquest's help to dig deeper than she was supposed to. This of course led to her banishment from Rata Sum and then unfortunately Omadd tracking her down and forcing her into his machine for one last experiment now that she wasn't any use to him, but it also led to her continued partnership with the Inquest, likely again through this comradery she had with Teyo. Fast forward a little, and she's the special consultant on the Thaumanova project that (if Dessa's season 1 dialogue is to believed) has been going on for many years. I would guess that at this point she created a chism within the Inquest, where some followed her into what would eventually become the Aetherblades. And if you're wondering about one of the things she could have been intersted in in the mists, well Arkk has some connection to the Aetherblades and was the child of Dessa. Perhaps Scarlet wanted to do her own digging into these crystallizations of the mists, and that's why we have the Shattered Observatory fractal, where the two generations meet in their loop prisons several years after Mai vanished. Addtionally, Scarlet's MO seemed to be alliances, so while Mai was the leader of the pirate faction of Aetherblades, supposedly there should be an Inquest leader as well. Could be our new airship friend. Just some food for thought. Again, nice video.
Hey WP, I'm a GW2 casual player (unfortunately) and I struggle sometimes in keeping track of the lore and all the story plots through the years of playing this game. Therefore, I really appreciate your reviews, and recaps and storytelling videos, because it brings me the context I might just be missing. So, thank you! Watching this particular video, and assuming it is Mai Trin in the EoD trailer like you said, do you think it's possible that the unknown Asuran, standing next to her, may be an "Inquest-related" character (given the past association of the Aetherblades with the Inquest)? And the scene shown in the trailer is, in fact, their arrival at Cantha after Mai Trin escaped from the Mists about 7y ago?... they’re not being "guided" by Aurene, but that moment is being shown to us through Aurene's "visions of the past"? Then I started wondering... could the Jade Sea Map spoilers be the Inquest?... Inquest everywhere, that's why they decided to just hide these highly recognizable characters? (why would this spoil anything, I don’t know). Mai Trin and this "Inquest" companion set off to this region of the world to “help” locals harvest and manipulate this new source of power, the “dragon energy” infused jade, with a shared goal set in mind (combining the Aetherblades' ambition and the Inquest high-tech expertise in this "relation") and not out of the kindness of their hearts. The "jade-tech" golems and those "news projectors" (as I imaging being like the hologram devices we find in the lab of "Tracking the Scientist" - LWS4, Ep. 2, A bug in the system) the Devs scatered around Cantha look like very Inquest technology to me. Is it too farfetched? Does it make any sense at all to you? Thank you! RF
This was a nice and very useful recap. I've been on gw 2 since the clockwork caos patch but i missed a lot of these story bits. I think that E would be another charachter that could deserve a spotlight video like this: it's been a while since we heard of and from him, it would be useful to gather all the information about him in one place. The only downside i can think of is that i'm not sure of how much certain information is there about him.
Enjoying that you are making a point to cover some of the Season 1 stuff because I wasn’t here for most of it and it feels like there is a huge disconnect between what happens at the end of the Personal Story and where things pick back up in Season 2. Many of my friends picking the game up now are frustrated with the lack of explanation for how we got to where we are at the beginning of Season 2, and I tend to agree. I think ArenaNet should do a refresh of all this content, or at least give us a better recap than the poor explanation video for Scarlett’s War. None of this information is really available to new players and I’ve heard many times from new players who pick up the game that they don’t understand how they got to the beginning of Season 2, what happened to the Pact, who are these new characters, etc. and it makes them feel disconnected from their character. (My advice is usually to skip straight into HoT because LWS2 is no longer very good content comparably, in my opinion. And the story is much easier to follow from that point on if you are returning to the game or picking it up for the first time.)
Hey WP, random question. I've been playing in some of the core maps again because i got kind of bored. I ended up in Malchor's leap for a story mission, as you do. At the Pyrite peninsula, there is a hero challenge that is this giant glowing orb. Inquest try to get power from it. What the hell even is it. It's weird to me since i did complete the map 4 times already but i guess it never really caught my attention. And that reminds me. What is fort trinity used for these days anyway? Has it been abandoned after the Zhaitan campaign? The pact moved on, right? sooo
so wp i jsut had a rng thought run through my head, which was with the asura character, which i'm kinda making a leap what if it that asura there in the dungeon, or the boss of the aetherblade fractal, i know he technically goes splat, but they are suppose to be in the mist, my be the reconstituted him bring him "back to life" or "back for the mist", it is still just a thought.
I'm so curious about Mai Trin and her role in the story in EoD. Will she be an ally or an ennemy? A sassy frenemy? Is it her (or her Asura first Mate) that are investigating Taimis research? Somehow i like the idea that We and the Aetherblades are pursuing similar goals without knowing and over the course of EoD we keep bumping into each other and messing up our plans only to find out at the end that we actually want the same things during the grand finale.
im kinda wondering your take on kasmeers relation to cantha, as she's been in the box art banners aswell as majori, I assume its because she doesnt wanna lose her loved one again and goes with her, but whats your take ?
Hey WP! I was wondering if you had any insight on how Anet plan to bridge icebrood saga and End of Dragons? or if you think they plan to at all? I, among im sure a couple of other guild wars players, am pretty disappointed with how IBS ended and how it felt like they just crinkled up such a well written story and tossed it aside. Do you think Anet is just gunna pretend like nothing happened, sweep it under the rug, and move us along into this next expansion without looking back at all? I really hope that they use at least a short portion of the beginning of the expansion, since its too late even for a mini living world episode or something, to tie up any lose ends. Although I'm feeling doubtful after that cheap ending for IBS.
WP mentions more characters and my mind instantly goes to a comment I read a few days ago about lord Faron running around in his undies haha. I love this though, season 1 was such a long time ago, I feel like I remember nothing. Maybe the origin story of Dragon's watch?
I havent beem abled to login since april, i tried to receive help from customer support, gotten the feedback:"succesfully submitted",but havent had any help as of yet,
I think you should do a video about 'E.' I know he/she doesn't have much backstory since they are a complete mystery, but you could also rundown all the candidates of who could be 'E' from least likely to most likely in your opinion.
I was wondering, if we want to traverse down the proverbial rabbit hole, what you think about my own ponderings about Jory, Mai Trin, etc. When I originally watched the EoD trailer, I thought the person in that huge jade tech machine room was Mai Trin. Upon rewatching, I determined that Mai Trin was actually on the Pact Ship, (poor thing hasn't had a change in hairstyle in all this time?). Then I wondered, "Who is that woman with the green pins/ribbons in her hair that I mistook for Mai Trin?". We found out later that this person is Joon, (when they had the official announcement, and the VAs introduced themselves). My mind began to wonder if she is Mai Trin's sister, or if she's somehow a lost sister or relative of Marjory. It would be very interesting if they're all related. Thank you for all you do for the GW2 community.
With regard to her name. Mai is a name in Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese; however the name Trin is mostly Vietnamese, so the combination of Mai Trin, i interpret as vietnamese inspired.
GW2 has a lot of loose story threads and MIA characters that you could make a series of. Of course everyone is going to clamor for Malyck, but there's a bunch of them topics like The Dream of Dreams, Magdaer, Isgarren, E., and of course The Gargoyles, that you could make good videos about.
season 1 was time gated so it is sad not to relive those instaces, especially since I only pplayed barely anything from season one since I only got into GW2 later and didn't understand the Living WOrld so focusd on levelling and main story. but the characters and events there were so much more interesting. From Season 2 onwards only the main anatgonists rermained releavnt, besides them all recurring characters were from LW season 1 .
Bad bad bad memories here lol. Getting this dive for the mastery point was a nightmare. A hard jumping puzzle followed by a nearly impossible dive. I blocked it out till this video.
You're probably tired of talking about the E mystery but I can't remember if I've said this here before: I believe "E" is "Evon Gnashblade". I remember a remark by Ellen Kiel during the Festival of the Four Winds where she is confounded at Evon's ability to know everything and be everywhere he's needed. As a leader in Lion's Arch he would have an invested interest in keeping Queen Jenna in power since he wants and needs (politically and economically) the Human/Charr treaty to continue. And then there's Wild Eye Miller who also remarks that Evon just happens to be everywhere and knows so much; though that is followed up by a weird telepathic twins theory lol. I think the pieces are there, but it would be great to revisit the mystery at some point.
What if Scarlet was working with Glint and all that happened was orchestrated by Glint, thanks to that we defeated all of the dragons till now and Mai Trin plan is part of it, that it is why she left to Cantha to do the "stuff" that needs to be done as part of Glint's Prophecy. Another Theory or part of first one. When Mai Trin pirates flew to Cantha they help develop hologram technology, so maybe aetherbaldes might addition to Jade Empire and respected one at that. So maybe Mai Trin Spyed on Commander through layline phone and Jade Empire knows all about Commander and what was happening, maybe they collected all positive outcomes and technologies of what we have been discovering, like collecting collecting stones for End Game by Thanos. Comparison is lol but maybe we participated in building something big and we did not even knew. Third: Mai Trin is E SLAAAAMIN!
I think it would be cool, if the asura in the trailer would be blish with his original body back. He could have got it in the mist somehow and met mai trinn there.
Crackpot theory time. Mai Trinn and the Aetherblades have been laying low because they didn't know what to do after Scarlet's death... until the princess of chaos herself shows up in the mists. After the gods left their realms and Kralkatorrik feasted on the magic in the god realms, she was able to escape the weakened boundaries of the underworld and managed to find her old allies. With some help from the Aetherblades, they are able to recover a mordrem clone of Zojja that was lying dormant in a blighting pod that went unnoticed, brought it back to the mists where Scarlet could possess it and rejoin the world of the living. Now free of Mordremoth's thrall she is able to pursue her own ambitions, whatever they may be. Could free them up to recast the voice since it's not quite Zojja and not fully Scarlet either. And yes, probably lots of holes to be poked in this theory, like how would the Aetherblades know about Zojja clones? or how the Asura from the trailer looks nothing like Zojja but I had fun with this in the few minutes it took to type this out.
They brought some of Season 1 back in IBS, I hope they do more, it really is terrible idea to have non-repeatable story beats when everything is trying to be a linear progression. I can't imagine why that was ever rubber-stamped....
If nobody else is gonna point it out, I will … it’s “Mai Trin”, with just a single N. Sorry :) Good thing is, you can fix the title and thumbnail pretty easily ;)
If it didn't been that she'll appear in EoD, nobody would care about Mai Trinn. Kind of cool that the devs decided to undust the character... because so far, she been irrelevant. The devs could have used instead that NPC in Divinity Reach that talks about her sister being in Cantha... at least Mai have an Etherblade "backstory" who's much more interesting than the DR NPC that keep talking about trivialities.
I don't know I nether cared for Mai Trin or the Aetherblades. It doesn't help that I don't like pirates in media in general. Either way I'm still pretty pessimistic about the story in EoD. The travesty of the Icebrood Saga and especially the death of Jormag and Primordus bugs me a lot. They did so well with PoF and LW S4. They deserved the death of Kralkatorik and the implications of "Mother" were very promising. Now it seems we are back to mortal problems and story arcs. And I can't care less right now.

I love this. Omg ❤️✨
Love this type of video. As someone who missed season 1 it's great to hear how characters might relate to or have a role in EOD. Thanks WP

@@WoodenPotatoes I think the shot of the trailer she appears in and her animations are just very good.
Can't wait to meet her in game.
@@WoodenPotatoes He really looks badass. I think he is evil though, not crazy evil like Scarlet but calmly evil =D
This video is amazing and a great start to explore the very underrated gw2 lore rarely spoken about. Cheers to more😊👌

Just discovered your channel. Great content. This is exactly what I was looking for. Well explained and good pace of speaking.
Liking the Stahlhelms in Ruan Jia's artwork used for the loading screens. Hope we get that as a helmet skin.
This was very interesting. Please do more! Also anything Canthan related and GW1 related is EXTREMELY interesting
Great video concept! Would love to be caught up lore wise for launch, but sadly do not have enough time to play everything myself!
I stopped playing due to time, but I always come back for these lore vids
Played through all the content from head start, still liked this video and found it a useful recap.
Nice video. Please, more character spotlights!
at last a Lore video, missed them so much..
Fascinating! love these extra bits of lore and excited to see if some of these gets addressed in EoD. Great video, keep it up WP!

Although I'm feeling doubtful after that cheap ending for IBS.
yeah i think mai trin was the first person to tip us off to scarlet or someone bigger behind the scenes, when you spoke to her in her cell.
We need more information about the ME (a)quarian accent race Largos.
I need to check Miller's dialogue, could he be phrasing that Marjory has two "remaining" sisters ;)
I love the lore series! Thanks!
Love this content WP! Instantly clicked and enjoyed the watch
CHARACTER SPOTLIGHTS LET'S GO BABY!!!
Loving it
great vid... yes... plz make more
season 1 was time gated so it is sad not to relive those instaces, especially since I only pplayed barely anything from season one since I only got into GW2 later and didn't understand the Living WOrld so focusd on levelling and main story. but the characters and events there were so much more interesting. From Season 2 onwards only the main anatgonists rermained releavnt, besides them all recurring characters were from LW season 1 .
Would it make sense for the Mist Stranger to be "E"?
Bad bad bad memories here lol. Getting this dive for the mastery point was a nightmare. A hard jumping puzzle followed by a nearly impossible dive. I blocked it out till this video.
Yep, definitely a good style video! Do more for sure!
Wild Eye Miller. If you place the letters W and M a certain way. They both look like E.
O.o
@@skelletorjo3227 LOL And well "Eye" is right there too
Yup, I like this type of video.
Think it will have a twist where she will be an uneasy ally of the commander
GW2 has a ton of characters with potential for genuinely high quality story telling. Will ANet step up to the mark now?
Oh...Mai Trin. So many theories, so little time.
Kinda wished they made her look more like her concept art, that looks way cooler.
YES
Nice video - but all I want to know is what the hell is happening to the shards of Magdaer!?
Sweet short Video!
"Rice bean cakes" That's a thing? I know, I know...little thing but you said it. xP
More lore stuff!!
They brought some of Season 1 back in IBS, I hope they do more, it really is terrible idea to have non-repeatable story beats when everything is trying to be a linear progression. I can't imagine why that was ever rubber-stamped....
Make more!!
More of these
Seraph Belinda Delaqua POV: Am I a joke to you?
If nobody else is gonna point it out, I will … it’s “Mai Trin”, with just a single N. Sorry :) Good thing is, you can fix the title and thumbnail pretty easily ;)
I had no idea that Marjory has 2 more sisters...
HORRICK UNLEASH THE CANNONS
did we ever find out who E really was?
To all new players be warned that this game sets up great potential storylines but falls flat trying to realise them so temper your expectations
I thought Marjory’s second sister died in Season 2. But I am starting to think Mai is Majory’s sister.
oh right the aetherblades never finished those achievments tied to them in EOTM
Mic is crisp and sexy today
What a sexy-sounding hello at the start WP.. !

SHOW US UR ELE OPEN WORLD BUILD, EVERYTIME U STREAM U MENTION HOW PERFECT IT IS HAHAHHAHA
Mai Trinn a baddie ngl
y-your Trinn?
Dig lore videos
Could be she had 3 sisters and now only had two sisters
Mi Trin? More like Our Trin
