This video took about five months to create. It was the very first time I did an animation video. From learning how to even animate, story boarding, writing, drawing and composing, I have learned so much! The original idea would have produced a video about twice as long. But the release date was firmly set for the anniversary and slowly but surely, some scenes had to be cut. Therefore, if you're wondering, why this and that is not in the video, I just didn't have the time to include all of it. One day, I will revisit this first idea and create what I truly had in my mind. Please look forward to it! Oh, and if you think the sound is a bit... rough... While I did animate on the video for five months, ALL of the sound was done in the last TWO DAYS

Wow, a fellow 1.0 Alpha tester. I never thought I'd see the day someone would remember. I have every and all my memories of it. In fact, I still have the gameplay video I (illegally) recorded on that day, April 8th 2010. I remember the crashes, I remember people desperately trying to connect to the login server that would sh*t on itself. Out of the 4 hours testing session, about 25 minutes were actually spent playing the game, the rest was just banging against the title screen. I remember the general sentiment among the testers in the forum. The cautious optimism about this game. This world looked beautiful. This world looked so carefully crafted, full of lore and love. But we also could see how it was far from being ready for prime day, how the gameplay seemed clumsy and bizarre, how the content seemed lacking. Despite all this, we all believed it would eventually be figured out, and everything would be fine. It was Final Fantasy, after all. It could not fail. We were so wrong. And we were so right. Thank you so much for this video. I celebrated my 14 years alone, in silence, convinced that nobody would care about the ramblings of a now old player. That no one would listen another time how hard we had it, back when the entire job system did not exist, when teleporting cost anima and chocobos weren't even there, when every single action would make you wait for a six-second long GCD, when levequests were the only content to level throughout the entire game besides MSQ, when we traveled on boat and there was no jumping. I'm glad someone else remembers.
When the 10 year ARR celebration came around last year I thought, "When did I start?" as I'm part of this game since the very first chance I could get my hands on it. So I checked my screenshot folder and found the very first pictures I made from that first alpha test, dating back to said April 8th 2010 (yes, I also made footage that I shouldn't have but thanks to them, I could remember!) My experience what the same as yours XD But I think I only was able to play in the game for 15 minutes on that first test day ^^; And heck, 1.0 was a slug.. "Ah, need to get from Gridania to Ul'dah but my anima is spent. Guess I'll walk down there for the next 15 minutes and hope I don't die to a random attack from an enemy that didn't appear on my screen due to the slow servers" :D I'm sure, as more and more people will reach their individual 14 year anniversaries this year, we will see lots and lots of art and videos pop up. There are many more of us "old players" around than people think 😁 We all went through a lot! And look where it lead us 😊 Celebrating a wonderful journey of very low lows and very high highs. And I wouldn't want it any other way 🤣 Thank you so much for all your kind words!!
@@Miingno I remember being so Hyped about FFXIV even Quit WoW when the Alpha came out myself I sometimes (Purposely) wear very revealing outfits so the Tattoo on my character shows
Having the tattoo really is nice. I just don't have many outfits I like, that could show it properly on my lalafell. So instead, I fly around the game with my legacy chocobo 😁

Of course I had a plan in mind how it should work out, but I didn't intentionally work towards certain moments. Next time, I will probably start with the music first and then do the animation to fit the timing of the songs or the voice etc. And the subtle animations are simply because I'm still learning and bad at poses and perspective. Gotta had to keep it simple to not make it look too weird XD

I made a NA account on shadowbringers to see how different it is on there compare to my home Japan center. Keep up good work. I hope you understand my english is not my main language.

I have been wanting to express myself this way for ten years. Closest i got was re-drawing a few memes with my friends' Ffxiv characters... But lack the conviction to stick to it like this. Thank you for the inspiration to try again.
I didn't know if I could do it myself and I did doubt myself a few times during its creation. But I said myself, there's no way to know if it turns out good or bad until I try and finish it. I don't call myself an animator and there are still plenty of mistakes in this video I would like to fix now.... I knew (or thought so) in theory how to do animation, but always lacked a good reason to try it. When the 10 year ARR anniversary came around last year I looked at how long I've been playing since I started earlier than that. Plus I happened to watch a lot of amazing self made anime videos by the people I mentioned in the credits at that time. And thus one lead to the other and here we are now XD Thank you for your kind words and I am looking forward to your pictures and eventually animations too, if you want to give it a try! =D
Nice video, man. I'm glad you stuck with it. FFXIV is grindy and painful at times but with a great community, you can do anything. ;) The animations were amazing, and I didn't expect you to be a Legacy player. I came in on Shadowbringers, so I don't know how hard it was for you Legacy players back in 1.0. I really enjoyed the animations, it really showcases the entire first arc of FFXIV. There are still some grindy elements yes, but nowadays it's much more casual than it used to be at the start. I came over from FFXI which at that time was grind incarnate XD 1.0 was crazy... there were aspects that were actually better (for example character animation). But ultimately, it had to fall and I'm glad it did ^^; Just imagine, walking from Gridania to Ul'dah and back. No chocobo, no teleport, no airships. Just walking that path once a day to do a stack of levequets... That was about how the main daily game felt like
this is absolutley brilliant! happy that after all these years you can still find enjoyment in the game. i sadly only joined i few years ago, but the experience was overwhelmingly positive. this video truly is a love letter to your journey and the game itself.

It was your video, "To you, who feels like they're not progressing" that pushed me to even attempt an animation on my own. I knew theoretically how to do it (or at least I thought so...) but never done anything practically (...there was still soooo much more to learn). Your project files then taught me so much dude, I can't stress this enough. Thanks to them, I found an easy way on how to split up my project into individual scenes and shots and thus an easy way to organize the whole project. Without your files, I wouldn't have even thought about using masked blurs and chromatic aberration in some of the shots. Plus I admit, I "stole" your method for that aberration... hope you don't mind! The initial idea would have resulted in about twice the length of this video. But well, I had a date when it had to be finished and thus I had to scrap a lot and made it somehow work. I will one day make the longer version, the "full video" I had originally envisioned. But for that I need to draw and animate lots more and learn lots more. Don't worry, I won't stop here! Thank you again for everything and I am looking forward to your next video as well! But first, fully recover please! Oh, and if you have time, FFXIV is a very nice game. A bit expensive and will suck up a LOT of time... but the story is amazing ;) _sorry for the spoilers_

My adventure started in October 2013. I made friends, lost friends, and learned a great deal about myself. I learned kindness and confidence. Before I started, I more or less just isolated myself; people scared me. I had bad experiences growing up, and my family smothered me. FFXIV allowed me to have a voice of my own, one that I wasn't afraid to use.
It's a mature game in the sense that it takes time and feelings into consideration. It also taught me a lot and helped me tremendously to become a more social person. Thank you for sharing your story with me! ☺
I am a new player more or less, but I have been enjoying my journey a lot. Watching this video has made me even more excited for my journey. Hope I can be a part of this community and enjoy my time here just like u did!

I was unfortunately able to step into the world on sept 10, 2010 lol. I did not enjoy it. I remember opening the map and i was all like OH MAH GERD!! especially Gridania. When ARR was being announced i never looked at it, when it released i never looked at it. I mean you cant change the core game that late right? normally right but my friend told me to look at it and i was surprised, you almost couldn't tell it was the same game. I have played since July 30, 2015 according to my days subscribed, it sits at 3180 days according to my squeenix account. I would have started earlier but i gave no interest to the game simply because of what i experienced before.
The start was rough indeed. A vast world but empty and boring. And the black shroud, with that haunting music, was a nightmare indeed D: And now, it's full of live and there's always something to do~ Until I have all the achievements done... If ever XD

I was unfortunately able to step into the world on sept 10, 2010 lol. I did not enjoy it. I remember opening the map and i was all like OH MAH GERD!! especially Gridania. When ARR was being announced i never looked at it, when it released i never looked at it. I mean you cant change the core game that late right? normally right but my friend told me to look at it and i was surprised, you almost couldn't tell it was the same game.
I have played since July 30, 2015 according to my days subscribed, it sits at 3180 days according to my squeenix account. I would have started earlier but i gave no interest to the game simply because of what i experienced before.
The start was rough indeed. A vast world but empty and boring. And the black shroud, with that haunting music, was a nightmare indeed D:
And now, it's full of live and there's always something to do~ Until I have all the achievements done... If ever XD
