What if the advanced designs of Sunstar's troops were what X was based off of? Sunstar wasn't the most powerful, as he was eventually defeated, but the concept of an otherworldly group of robots being the basis for the super advanced design of X would make sense.

To be fair... Mega Man was thrown a bone of help during MMV. Bone 1: At the beginning of the game, Vanilla Mega Man (w/o Mega Arm) was ONE-SHOT by Terra. And, alongside the planetary menagerie, they conquered Earth in mere hours. This, in turn, forced Dr. Light to create the Mega Arm, which is the only weapon capable of even scratching the Star Droids, thus giving Mega a fighting chance. And even then, when you actually encounter Sunstar, even if you throw other Star Droid Weapons into a count, they all deal fractions of damage (1/19th, to be specific). But let's say that still isn't enough... Well then, let's talk about Mega Man 8-bit Deathmatch. I know, it's a fan game, but it's the only other game Sunstar appears as a boss and here it's even more brutal. None of your standard weapons deal much damage, with the only real means of delivering huge damage only available via sidequest. And it doesn't have a lot of ammo. Final bullet point: After Mega Man/Maestro (MM8BDM's protagonist) defeat Sunstar, he takes the Wily Star down with a single massive explosion. And considering he survived that AND being thrown into the Sun in MM8BDM, it can eb assumed that even that mass blast is not enough to take out the Sun God.
Well, when you think about it, he could have been an inspiration for the creation of Zero by Wily. Frighteningly powerful (in-story) robot Wily wanted to use to crush his enemies, but may have a taste for doomsday (even though Zero didn't actually get released by Wily)...
Which is why the Zero Virus made Zero's programming to, "Destroy EVERYTHING in your path!" If he can't control it, he may as well at least have Zero have a chance at destroying Dr. Light and company. And then Wily died...
Wily was a megalomaniac who wanted Mega Man destroyed. Zero was intended to be the ultimate Megaman Killer, but his programming went haywire and the Virus came to be. Sunstar has no reasonable connection to Zero, because Wily doesn't like robots that don't obey him (see: Bass), and a robot based on another that entirely betrayed and sought to kill Wily doesn't exactly serve that purpose.

Somebody make a megaman x fan game with sunstar as the final boss, I even have an idea for the story: after deciding to take a leave of absence, X ends up on a strange island, made up of various decommissioned robot parts, as he ventures onto this strange island he ends up discovering memories of his past life is the original MegaMan As well as memories of his dog Rush, His Sister Roll, His brother Proto man, His Rival Bass, his enemy Dr.Wily, and his father Dr.Light, as well as fighting enhanced versions of the robot masters, The Mavericks, and the star droids, as well as revealing that Serges, Who is the main villain in this game, is in fact Dr.Wily himself reborn in a Cyborg body, and had rebuilt SunStar to destroy MegaMan once and for all.

Um AcHyUaLlY, Spark Chaser isn't the weakness to Sunstar, it does one damage to him, like everything else, but it's ability to multi-hit makes it do more damage, making it a "weakness". I find it fun to use the buster, instead of having the homing, multi-hitting, energy-efficient spark chaser do the work. It's fun.
Against a robot that can destroy planets? X is gonna die. The original Megaman *BARELY* survived an encounter with it and even then, Sunstar only blew himself up as per his programming.

Sunstar was pretty powerful doe. He just lacked the one thing that made megaman a powerhouse; his adaptability.
Sunstar was made specifically for universe conquest. I doubt X or even a Dark Elf-powered Omega can handle something that can take out entire planets.
