The oil change every two years is honestly a really terrible take… lack of oil changes is the source of a ton of their historical issues

I don’t know why mini recommends that long time between changes! I imagine to get the cars on the ramp more often

One of the biggest mistakes people make when choosing a Mini is not being honest with what maintenance and repair costs _could be_ - they'll equate those costs with "Mini's are unreliable" that's not been my experience at all. An oil change is a little more than a domestic car, parts are little bit more (for OEM) than other cars. If you have to or want to take your car to a dealer for service then expect BMW service prices because Mini is owned by BMW and the vast majority of Mini dealers are BMW and Mini ones (I've not seen a "stand alone" Mini dealer I don't think).

Sweet video, only problem is I can’t agree with your points 6 and 7, I’ve owned two Mini Clubman S. I absolutely love the cars to death, but German reliability has proven very finicky even for the newer models. Let alone serviceability is far from ideal i.e. battery placed under the wiper cowl and strut tower brace. The fill ups are also a lot more than once a month! I’m wondering if you meant once a week, because that’s far more realistic for these cars.
Still an awesome video, that highlights some of my favorite parts about these cars!

MINI is not a car, it's a lifestyle, much like the Jeep Wrangler. Lifestyles require compromise, sacrifice, and taking the 'bad' along with the good. Wranglers are apparently unreliable, but for some reason are also everywhere. But since most ppl lease cars these days, long term risk is for the 2nd owner.

Mini reminds me a bit like Subaru too - I've owned Subarus in the past and Minis now - Mini definitely isn't as practical as Subaru (possibly with the exception of your model) but are surprisingly flexible - they do tend to attract a certain buyer and they do sometimes overlook some of the downsides to their beloved brand. I know for myself one of the downsides is that Mini doesn't support Android Auto (and likely won't until 2025 models) - honestly that almost kept me from getting one - but there are work-arounds.

I own a Jeep wrangler and now am looking at purchasing a Mini for a second vehicle 😅 and I going to have two problems on my hands. Because I LOVE my wrangler but he’s definitely a problem child.

couple that with the fact that all new minis come with 3 years of maintenance (except for some things like brakes and wiper blades - which you can include for an additional amount) - they're pretty hands off. I'll be changing the oil though more frequent than that (around 5k miles)...

@@Scotty_in_Ohio Yea, went to the dealer today. They didn't even want to do an oil change before 10k. You have to pay out of pocket, can't use Mini's complimentary 3 year or 3x oil change. BMW getting overly confident

at that point just do the oil change yourself it’s not that hard

These days to buy one you have to pick everything you want in the car including color. Send a $250 deposit and order it built. You still have to pay for it thru a dealership to work out a finance plan.

A few years ago there was a lot more choice of options - not just a couple of option packages. I tend to "load" up options so there's fewer boxes to check but it was nice to have an almost "Porsche like" order experience - colors, wheel choice, equipment - there are still more choices compared to other brands.
I've just ordered my 2nd new one - the order and dealer experience has been very good - the wait time was about 3 months for the first - the one I have on order now I expect to be in around April so - 3 - 4 months...

@@Scotty_in_Ohio I ordered mine in November. I went on Mini website and added the Vin#. They say the car is at the port ready to be put on the truck and taken to the dealership. Have no idea how long it will take.
