Great interview. He tends to be completely unfiltered and blunt and people often mistake that for bitterness or anger or rudeness, but he's really just an extremely genuine person with a very unique perspective and way of seeing things.
I spent a couple hours in Phil Lynott's company in 1978 and my memory of him is of a very softly spoken man , very polite and i was saddened when he died . edit; living on an island is my favourite Quo song.
That’s so cool. What a fantastic memory! I got to see Thinn Lizzy open up for Queen in 1976 Front row. Absolute life changing event! Phil is one of the best front men in Rock history. Rest In Peace Phil. Thank you for sharing your experience. Brought back a amazing memory ❤
I remember buying the double live album and listening to it over and over again. It always took my mind and still takes me to every concert I went to. I think it’s those memories that keeps me still listening to it today. More so than the following live recordings.
' If the boys wanna fight, ya better let em ' is taken from friends 'Quality Street Gang' found themselves in a fist fight. It couldn't be stopped & someone said that line. Phil picked up on it & used it as a lyric !
Love his groundedness and honesty, always interested in what he has to say, he'd have a great pod if he hosted sitdowns with fellow artists akin to The Raconteurs(who are insufferable)
While I get Frame's point about all sorts of music. I think for many it's a bit more nuanced than that. I won't discount any music just "because" it's of a certain genre. But after 50 years of listening to music pretty much constantly - I know there are certain genres that I will find a lot less that I like in them. So saying "I don't like free form jazz" or "I'm not keen on reggae" is really a short form of "I've listened to loads - but not found that much in that genre that I like"
I love the original Quo lineup and most stuff up to Back to Back was great. Francis Rossi always grates on me though - it feels like he's trying just a bit too hard and bit self centred. If I could choose to be stuck in a lift with him or Rick Parfitt it would be Rick every time....
I once went for an audition to be guitarist for a musician called “Adam F” (he was big in the 90s) in Denmark street, I completely messed it up and left with my tail between my legs. When I was walking down the stairs to leave, Rick Parfitt was at the bottom of them. I had a quick chat with him and he was a really pleasant down to earth fella.
Yes…he is arrogant! However, and this is important, he isn’t as starry eyed and gullible as a lot of “stars”! He and his crew mates did/do what needed to be done, even when they didn’t want to! Like when they were getting ripped off by record companies/promoters/managers and other sharks (as happened frequently with other performers)! When you’re getting crapped on, you either develop protections, or sink into obscurity! So, yes, he is cynical! But still a brilliant musician! Unlike (I imagine) the majority of people, I listen to the music, and tend not to analyse! I either like it for what it is, or not!
There is something false and contrived about him. Cant put my finger on it, and I was a big Quo fan back in the day, but he does not come across as genuine. rather,as slightly bitter and for for what reason.
Not particularly nice about Rick at the end, John Eden the producer was shocked at the fall out. Francis frowned upon Rick's lifestyle which is odd because Francis was a junkie/piss head.
on his first spoken word tour he spoke very emotionally about losing Rick - I think his bitterness was more about what Rick did to himself...year after year
Phil lynott was a fabulous song writer and his songs will last the test of time!

Such a great raconteur 👍🤘
He's always very good value.
Blue for you is a fantastic album!.... Bought when it came out!... Still have it somewhere!

❤Tanta salute per te FRANCIS ROSSI ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Live in Glasgow is killer Francesco! Wot you on about?!
I love the live Glasgow album. And that's all that matters .😊
Alcohol does funny things to a lot of people. I'm so glad I got out of that darkness
why wasn't 'Down Down' included on the Quo live album? It had been a No1 hit single
Wild side of life was wonderful, Roger Glover should of produced a whole album.
'should of'. Thick as shit.
In the bowels of a Hank Williams box set,he does wild side of life from a radio broadcast.. it's good.
Who is interviewing Francis? Sounds very familiar 🤔

Love Status Quo. But if you look close. Rossi is wearing a Wrangler Jacket. 🤣
You sure?
Lizzy will always be greater than Status. Phil forever.

Madeline Bell's backing band?
Wow.
Rossi has spent his whole career trying to have a sense of humour and he just comes across as annoying
Peter Frampton got ripped off amongst many more
Rossi, STILL dinghying his 70s fan base.
There is something false and contrived about him. Cant put my finger on it, and I was a big Quo fan back in the day, but he does not come across as genuine. rather,as slightly bitter and for for what reason.
Can't stand him .
@@dukedexter8764He’ll be gutted when he sees this…
I like em...just being him
Agree, always thought he was a bit of a plonker and false.
Rossi doesn't do himself any favours...
Sick of the trying to be funny all the time, coz he's not!
army song was a cover maybe you should wake up
He means, if Quo recorded it it becomes a Quo song, it's part of their catalogue, even the shite they did with the Beach Boys.
@mickb44 : And a bloody awful song at that, one of the few Quo songs I really hate.
I will never forgive that man for ripping Rick parfit after he died,he can get lost
Did he?Interesting.What did he say,like?
