Very true. I went to both of the Frantic Four back together gigs and was floored by how great they were and the incredible atmosphere. So to then here Rossi bad mouthing Coglan and the shows in general was (IMO) and incredibly shitty thing to do. Strange bloke.

@@johnwainwright4559 He was right. John wasn't up to speed, changed tempo during songs and Alan barely couldn't play bass anymore (though his voice was still very strong). Francis has said they should have had more time to reherse before doing concerts. Sure it was nice to see them all together on stage again but it wasn't as good as the old days.

I wonder why so many of my favorite bands like Status Quo, Ramones or Metallica have at least one "arsey" person in it. Do i like those bands because i am an arse? Am i drawn to arse music? Can you even hear that in the music? Funnily enough all three of them have tremendously talented rhythm guitarists in them.

Rossi is so hyper in this. Thousand miles an hour, off on a tangent and loses his concentration. It’s either coke has re-wired his brain or something more innate. It’s a massive contrast to Rick’s interviews. Rick’s are a pleasure to listen to.

Great guitar player, there's no getting away from that
He is a guy who has made it
    And he KNOWS it
And he wants respect for it
Veers away from the focus of a conversation purposefully, or due to a diverted train of thought because of poor concentration, but in any event he is putting up the armour.
And very ungracious about John Coghlan, who needed help rather than the cold shoulder. At least Rick Parfitt was appproachable and open, Francis is all about "ME"
The story about tea-laced speed is legendary. Rick became totally accelerated but lucid enough to actually write Mystery Song from scratch across about 8 hours. And it became a masterpiece.
Francis Rossi had scored and is semi strung-out here. FACT

      @alanstrom2221 10 місяців тому +2

I've watched and analysed Francis for the last 6 decades and came to the conclusion that he is self-obsessed. He is egocentric.
Alan was the opposite. Alan cared deeply about the Band and the Fans.
Rick was fairly neutral. Rick just wanted to be in a successful Band, preferably QUO.
Coghlan needed love from his Band mates, not isolation.
I feel that Rossi is a cold hearted mercenary.
Rossi keeps saying that he is a 'shy and insecure' person and he counteracts this by being an 'attention seeking show off'.
Rossi is a very smart person, and it wouldn't shock me if he'd fabricated that public persona, in preparation for what was to befall the Frantic Four.
Rossi, Frost and Williams were steering QUO's music style away from the Rock that the Fans loved.
RAOTW was a very confusing sounding album.
It was mixed and produced very low and quiet by Pip Williams.
This followed very close on the heels of the very loud and rambunctious 'LIVE' album and 'Blue for You'
Rossi took control and didn't consult any Band members.
Egomania driven by copious amounts of Cocaine.
IYCSTH had a better production and some good Rock songs, though I do classify RAOTW & IYCSTH as QUO's "DISCO" PERIOD.
Luckily, QUO bounced back in 1979, 1980 and 1981 with 3 superb Rock albums.
1982's album 1982 was horrific, except for a couple of tracks.
      No Coghlan, No QUO.
Rossi continued to take more control with 'Back to Back'
Alan Lancaster said that he wasn't so concerned with "Marguerita Time" which he despised, as he was with "Going Down Town Tonight", which - according to him - was not a Status Quo recording and featured no Status Quo musicians apart from Francis Rossi.
Lancaster co-wrote the first single, "Ol' Rag Blues", with Keith Lamb, lead singer of British bands The Kase, Sleepy Talk and Mr. Toad, and founder and lead singer of Australia's successful glam rock band Hush. Lancaster was angered when the production company declined to release the version featuring his lead vocal (which has since been made available as a bonus track on the 2006 remastered reissue), in preference to that featuring the voice of Francis Rossi.
Over the decades, Rossi sang quite a few songs that were written by Alan.
He also made no secret of his dislike of "Marguerita Time", which he thought was too pop-orientated for the group. When they appeared on BBC's Top of the Pops to mime to the single, his place was taken by Jim Lea of Slade, who were also on the programme that week.
Rossi and the record company kept taking more control of the Band, whereas Alan and John had very little to no control.
I think I read or heard Alan say that 'The Brotherhood' was over, Rick and Francis had their own private language and private jokes that alienated Himself and John.
As a massive QUO Fan, I naively thought they would last forever.
Even with the time that has passed since The Frantic Four were dismantled by Rossi's ego and arrogance, I still have moments of deep sadness.
Rossi can't give anyone a straight or correct reason or answer.
      "What was the question?"
Then he laughs disarmingly trying to disarm and derail the interviewer.............
Rossi is a great Guitarist and Singer and that's where it ends.

    • @28johann1
      @28johann1 10 місяців тому +1

Yeah that struck me as a bit odd. Lets go through them
Roll Over Lay Down - no comment
Claudie - Pretty weak by comparison, maybe, but hardly 'shit'?
Reason for Living - Terrific track - rare co-work of Parfitt Rossi?
Blue Eyed Lady - Credited to Lancaster Parfitt but feels like a Rossi song. Ok, a bit too much like Mean Girl but 'shit'? I think not.
      Caroline - yes quite
Softer Ride - Another belter, played live a lot recently
And it's better now - Lovely song which came to life on Acquostic
45 Hundred Times - Arguably the best song they ever did.
Now, as with many older fans, i much prefer the harder sound of Quo and Blue for You. But you would have thought Rossi, if we're to take seriously his assertion that he prefers pop to rock, might have lauded this album. I've afraid I've grown to C dislike this man.

I couldn't have worked closely with someone like him for 20 minutes, let alone decades.
Rick said in those later poolside interviews that all he ever wanted was to be in a successful band, and I imagine he avoided confrontation, unlike John and certainly "Nuff". In Rick's interviews during the second Frantic Four reunion tour, he does sail close to the wind by saying how much he was loving the old Quo heaviness, and contrasts playing in the current "Quo Lite" (his words) line-up as "almost on auto-pilot".
Status Quo like many bands had an early golden era, and then 30+ years of being incapable of creating anything that remotely came close. I heard some tracks from the new Stones album. No "Jumping Jack Flash"s or "Gimme Shelter"s.

Rossi didn't dump Alan & John, they left due to Rossi's terrible behaviour, manipulating the machinations of the Band.
Rossi's cocaine addiction turned him into a 'control freak'
Alan & John were on the 'outer' and not included any discussions or decisions.
Do your research and you'll find that Rossi was steering the Band's sound toward a softer contemporary Rock, even horrible Country rubbish.
The 1982 album's rehearsals were so abhorrent to John he kicked the 'crap' out of the Drum Kit, went to the airport, caught a plane home, left the QUO forever.
Alan hung on for a couple more torturous years until "Marguerita Time" pushed him 'over the edge'.
Rossi will never accept responsibility for driving Alan & John out of the Band.
Rossi will always be in denial of reality.

Jeez, What the hell is he talking about ?, rambling about rubbish & nothing, all disjointed, jumping from 1 thing to the next, incoherent, psycobabble, i cant understand what he is saying, its all mixed up, crikey what a mess.

He completely denies the frantic four,, agree though all albums apart from heavy traffic after the frantic four are shit.

Agree, have you listened to the first 5 albums of 1970's? That's the music I grew up with if they kept their music similar I think they'd sell more records. PILEDRIVER / HELLO / QUO / ON THE LEVEL / BLUE FOR YOU.

@TomLymberopoulos-du5he I do agree with Rossi. All albums after the frantic four are shit, I can live with parts of heavy traffic but that's it, think you misunderstood me, I love those albums and followed quo everywhere during those frantic four years. Rossi has ruined quo.

If he thinks the FF had moments of shite, fk knows how he thinks the likes of Perfect Remedy and Thirsty Work etc are good? Boggles my mind.
Quo 1970-1976 studio wise is untouchable.
Every other album since has equally awesome moments but faaaar more shite on them.
