I absolutely just LOVE her music ❤ what a TALENTED BEAUTIFUL singer she was I listen to her music every chance I get.. RIP Nancy your music LIVES ON you have certainly left a LEGACY❤
Boy, the atmosphere. I'm not gonna say "i wish i was born in those times" but hell, i'd be lying if i say that i don't want to be in those jazzy places drinking bourbon, smoking, listening, talking, enjoying myself...
I was out and about during those times and playing too. You're right. You would have enjoyed it. However, I never smoked, drank to excess, or drugged. The smoke was a little much at times.
I play Happy Talk as my voicemail message. Folks who hang on long enough to leave a message always comment. Two people told me how much they enjoyed it on the day she passed. I could not help but smile
You'd have to turn back time and have to adopt many ways of social graces morals and standards of engagement that existed without the tenants of white supremacy. Ms. Nancy Wilson was not only elegant, poised, uniquely talented in her craft, but she was a confident, informed, intelligent, well raised young woman supported throughout her life by her parents and decent people in the industry. What many may not realize is that she was an activist against the injustices of our society then. Yet she managed to balance her private and public life because the media and journalism were more true to form not ficticous, venomous sensationalism deceiving the mass. Ms Nancy Wilson was at a time when the artist was more in control of her delivery and production was not the driving force it later became.
SpeakMyMind still beautiful at 80. I've always loved that she let her hair whiten/gray, too. Especially when her peers were wearing wigs or dying their hair. Made her that much more beautiful.
Back in '62 Nancy Wilson was guest on many TV shows she was HOT, Loved her great voice and artistic abilities...so happy to hear here again. Thank you. Chesapeake Music.
Great video of Nancy Wilson. Live performance in 1962, wish I was in the audience. Wait, Just closed my eye's and I am there, Ahwwwwwwwwww. Thanks for posting !
Her version of “But Beautiful” is both haunting, understated and emotional. With spare arrangement framing that Burke/Van Heusen tune, Miss Nancy delivers what may be defining treatment. Worth finding and listening. “Love is funny, or it’s sad. It’s quiet or it’s mad…It’s a good thing or it’s bad - - but beautiful.”
Wow!!! I have always respected her exquisite and classy voice, but this is the first time I have ever seen young Nancy Wilson singing. Amazing! The internet's good for this, at least.
One of the most beautiful women in the planet... Ms. Nancy Williams.... Heavily talented singer with elegance, charm, class! Love from Bangalore, India
My favorite album "Nancy and Cannonball" been listening to her since I was sixteeen years old. My older sister got married and left that album in the house and I've been listening to it every since 1966 even before then because I remember listening to "guess who" and my sisters discussing that song and how she caught her man cheating. My sister was into Nancy, Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughn but I fell in love with Nancy. Such a beautiful distinguished voice.!!
Oscar Brown's comments at 4:45 are worth noting. Respect the lyrics... find a song with something valid to say, then say it. Nancy Wilson brings out a depth of meaning to lyrics that is very rare. Her vibrato is compelling, her quiet phrases draw you in-- and then--wham, she nails a high note that soars and cuts. The range of emotion she expresses is spellbinding.
Nancy Wilson is one of the best Singers in history, she's next to Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Chaka Khan, Pattie Labelle, Ella Fitzgerald, Whitney Houston, Gladys knight, and Phyllis Hyman. I don't think this generation really knows who Nancy Wilson is, she is underrated but people needs to give her a lifetime tribute to her music and singing.
In mid 50's I spent hours listening to Nancy and the Rusty Bryant band at a little club in Columbus called Kitty's Show Bar. What a great voice even then. I was at OSU but a jazz loving friend and I spent many school nights there, I with a flashlight to use to study during intermission! She has been one of my favorites ever since.
The elega nce and poise Nancy has displayed tbroughout her career, was already in place during this wonderful performance. Kenny, Al and Lou Levy were superb.Oscar Brown, Jr. was a dashing and charming host. Great show, thanks for posting.
Just beautiful in every sense of the word. A blessing was given to us for all to enjoy. Hope you enjoyed her as much as I did. Love you, Nancy. Rest in Peace.
Thanks so much for posting this. Mom's 84 and doesn't pay much attention to media anymore. Nancy is her favorite and it bought much joy to her to watch this throwback classic!
Nancy has blown my mind. My late friend Mr Bingham loved this woman. I was young... listening to Chaka Khan...Tell me something good. I'm 62 now and I can't get enough of Nancy. Such a beautiful soulful voice. This is music.
Interesting that you bring up Chaka Khan in relation to Nancy Wilson. Both sang with the Echoes of an Era band. I have the CD with Chaka, but cannot find the cassette I had from the 80s with Nancy. Both bands were swinging straight ahead. What voices. Two of my favorite vocalists. We miss you, Nancy.
Not silenced. Her beautiful body was laid to rest; and her angelic voice and spirit was lifted up in Heaven. Her soul will stay in residence with us through all of the perfect, magnificent, pristine vocal recordings, and televised shows of her genius gift from God.
@@narvelancoleman3813 Beautiful! Your comment is so high-spirited and TRUE. Let's anticipate the Heavenly Choir's arrival when the Almighty YAH reclaims HIS world😍
This clip reminds me that pure talent wins every time. Ms. Nancy never leaked nudes, twerked, sang anything vulgar nor wore clothing befitting of a brothel, yet her career spanned decades, and she is definitely one of the classiest women to ever adorn a stage! Her voice is so clear and pure. Yeah, she's among my favorites!
TruthSerum101 I'm so late with my reply! Lol I meant in comparison to a lot of the vocalists today. Yes, I totally understand what you are saying. I live it! Hope all is well.
Thank you for uploading. Put on a Happy Face! Come on & get happy! (Love "Happy Talk" - never heard her sing it before. It was a standard I sang for my grandchildren) RIP Ms. Wilson. You are the song of my life. My Dad had your albums and I played them all the time as a teenager growing up in the Motown era. "I Believe in YOU!" SUBLIME. What a set!
Wow! I'm back because i cannot get enough of Fancy Miss Nancy's singing on these beautiful old songs. She really is a feminine songstress and you won't see (1}) tattoo! Hooray.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to see her live a few times. What a treat. For someone who always proclaimed herself NOT a jazz singer, SHe is probably my favorite female "jazzy" singer ever. ONly Sarah Vaugh even comes close for me.
My heart is broken at her passing but filled with joy that a talent this fierce blessed us. Class. Elegance and natural interpretive skill. Rest well angel. R.I.P.
There are many singers that I like but Nancy Wilson is the only one I can listen to and never get tired, she's just that good and then there's that Smile.
She was painfully gorgeous in her 20s. She came from an era where you had to have talent. The competition was fierce. Mediocrity? Never made it back then.
Why is this woman not as well known as say Eartha Kitt, or Etta James, or Dinah Washington?? She has the most unique sound. She could have sung the phone book and you would know it was NW! I am going to listen to (and appreciate) more of her music and find out more about her life :)
I cannot tell folks how much i have to thank my mom for sharing her Saturday morning with me listening to Nancy. Since then i have been hooked. What a voice there will never be another.

I saw this woman perform in 2009 and she's still the sexiest vocal scientist on the planet. Can't beat Nancy's Happy Talk.
That's about the same time we saw her. Fabulous presence and voice!
